Melee Radial Embodiement not working

After todays patch Melee Radial Embodiement has stopped functioning on my toon.  I filed a ticket in game and received this reply:

 

That power requires the user to be within melee range of enemies for the stacking defense and regeneration boosts to happen (much like the Invincibility power from the Invulnerability armor set). You should get 1.5 melee defense for each foe within 7 feet, and the power maxes out at 9 targets, for a maximum benefit of 13.5% melee defense.

I tested this on one of my own toons, and it seems to be working correctly.

 

Some context on my bug report:   I use this power on my farming toon which is vet level 760,  so it's not like I don't understand how the power works.  When using the power I click the icon in the power tray and it activates,  The multiple icons denoting the number of enemies affected appear.  But it is  doing nothing, no buff whatsoever.  One anomaly that is happening is that a second set of icons are showing up which are the same as normal but they are dimmed (or ghosted) out.  So I have the first normal set of the powers icons on screen with the second set right after the first (but dimmed).  Since I am farming in AE alone (no hitters or sitters) the mobs are all clustered around me and are within 7 feet.

 

Something in the patch has caused this and I am going to assume it was not intentional.   I would be happy to demonstrate this issue if you think that would help you see it is actually broken.

Interesting - can you show the power being active, near some mobs and showing the icons + defense values? (Also inform us of which AT/Sets you're using)
I've just tested this on my Rad/Willpower scrapper and the power seems to be working normally.

You will need to tell me how to get the screen shot of the defensive values like you did.   I am able to get screen shots but the open windows showing the values do not appear in the shots. 

One thing I did notice while trying to get the screenshots was that my defensive values were going red...  and when they did I died in seconds. Melee Radial was showing up in the combat attributes screen.   Its almost as if I was getting massive debuffs.   Something is seriously wrong here..  even if I had no melee radial or barrier running or using any purples at all I have a good enough build to stand in a large group of mobs for a while...  now it's like a switch is thrown and my health drops in 3-4 seconds to zero.  Barrier has also been flakey but it has always been to some extent.  Pop barrier and it works fine for about half its duration and then it's benefits taper off, but before my health would gradually start dropping and I could pop a purple.  Now..  about half way thru barrier my health drops like a rock and I'm dead within seconds.   Understand I have run this same AE mission hundreds (and hundreds) of times and I could run it blindfolded.  With Melee Radial it has always been my strongest defensive power..  use it and will full agro in a 4/8 farming map my health bar barely fluctuates.

 

I may have been mistaken about the second set of Melee Radial icons (dimmed) showing up on screen.  When testing today it appeared those icons were from something else,  gold colored like the Melee Radial ones and still dimmed but not the same.

 

I have chatted with other farmers and no one seems to be having any issues like I am.   Perhaps the patch has effected my build in some way causing my toggles to stop functioning (they are not dropping and still show as running in the power tray.)

 

Here is my build:

Primary powers  - Spines/Fiery Aura

Power Pools – Fighting, Leaping, leadership

Epic power pool – Energy mastery

Inherent pool -  Health, Stamina   all others are not important

Single target attacks only are one slotted, aura attacks are 6 slotted, and multi-target cone attacks are multi-slotted. 

Inherent

Health – 3 slot   2 Numinas (one regen/recovery) and 1 Panacea +hit points/recovery  Health is not worth multi-slotting in most toons but is a great place to put your recovery boosters for end.

Stamina – 4 slot  Power Transfer

 

Spines

Lunge – 1 slot Damage IO

Spineburst – 6 slot Avalanche melee aoe   purple

Build up – 3 slot  2 Recharge IOs 1 Gaussians chance for build up

Impale – 1 slot  Decimation chance for build up

Quills – 6 slot  Armageddon  purple

Ripper – 5 slot   4 Sciroccos Dervish  1 Force Feedback chance for recharge

Throw Spines – 5 slot Ragnorock  purple

 

Fiery Aura

Fire Shield – 3 slot  Aegis

Blazing Aura – 6 slot  Unrelenting Fury  archetype enhancement

Healing Flames – 4 slot  Doctored wounds

Consume – 2 slot  Fury of the Gladiator  pvp enhancement (for the fire resist)

Burn – 6 slot  Brutes Fury  archetype enhancement

Fiery Embrace – 3 slot  recharge IOs

 

Energy Mastery

Superior Conditioning – 3 slot endurance IOs

Focused Accuracy – 3 slot to hit IOs

Physical Perfection – 6 slot Performance Shifter

 

Fighting

Kick – 1 slot  doesn’t matter what you slot

Tough – 3 slot  Aegis

Weave – 3 slot  2 luck of the gambler (one being the global recharge) and 1 reactive defense

 

Leaping

Combat Jumping – 3 slot   2 Shield Wall pvp enhancements  1 red fortune

 

Leadership

Manuvers – 3 slot Red Fortune

Tactics – 3 slot To Hit IOs

 

Incarnate Powers

Alpha – Cardiac     For endurance

Destiny – Barrier   For defense

Hybrid – Melee  For Regen and def buff

Interface – Reactive  For resist debuff and extra fire damage

Lore – doesn’t matter, lore pets are useless farming.

Since you are fire farming, I'm assuming the issue is not with Melee Radial, and more that your enemies have fire sword. With the patch, fire sword and the other sword attacks now have a defense debuff.

The command to show the UI in the game's "print screen" screenshots is /screenshotui 1.

 

One key note is that in Page 5 (which released this week), Fire Sword powers (Fire Sword, Fire Sword Circle, Greater Fire Sword) had Defense Debuffs added for players, and the AE versions of these powers were also changed to reflect the change - if the mobs you're fighting have these powers, they'll now be shredding through your +Def before you know it.
