Superherohype.com lives up to its name at times, making huge hype over less-than-solid facts, but I find this one intriguing.   I still think it's hype.  There's no true official confirmation from Gunn or the studio actually mentioned in the article, just Jason Momoa's slightly cryptic comment, but I can definitely see him in the role.

Jason Momoa "is" DCU's Lobo

The Hollywood Reporter cites the same source as proof: Momoa's comment "They called."   It doesn't say "They gave it to me".  The wording could have meant only that dialog has been opened.

Though I almost always see IMDB as a good source, it is not always accurate.  I cannot cite a specific movie, as I never thought I'd have to reference this, and it has been a while at that, but I have seen movies before where someone rushes to post cast information in IMDB.com that has proven incorrect, and sometimes deliberately misleading.   I'm not saying this is the case here, just that the best sources are the official studio mouthpiece, or James Gunn.

Which leads to the discovery that James Gunn apparently confirmed Momoa as Lobo via X.   I do not use X (or Instagram, Momoa's choice, for that matter) I've only been able to see a Lobo drawing posted to Gunn's X account.  I assume this is part of that confirmation, especially with the date/time stamp.

Looking forward to Momoa in action again.   It's been interesting watching him develop over the years.  I first encountered him in Stargate: Atlantis, where he played the strong, mostly quiet type.  Aquaman had him much more vocal and animated.  Lobo is going to push that over the top.

Jason seems to have confirmed:

Unless it's a rather silly elaborate fake, holding a draft script marked "For Lobo's Eyes Only" would seem to clinch it.

Lobo should indeed push him into full Brian Blessed territory, but that's going to be right for that role.

I've not read Woman Of Tomorrow, though, so how does that rather outsize character fit into a "True Grit-In-Space" type tale?

Wikipedia notes that one of the creators of Lobo's modern version was influenced by Marvel's Punisher and Wolverine, so the character definitely has the potential to fit into a darker work.  In trying to answer your question as to how a "rather outsize character fit into a 'True-Grit-In-Space' type tale", I suspect you need only look at Heath Ledger's interpretation of the usually over-the-top Joker:  more dangerous and psychotic, a little less clown.  We all know how that turned out.
