I agree!  I thought Kirk Douglas was hilarious in his role, and I appreciated Stallone stretching into comedy instead of the anguished tough guy roles he's known for.

I must admit he tanked in my estimation when he remade his (utterly appalling) version of Get Carter. The original, with Sir Maurice Mickelwhite is a standout piece of British gangster cinema noir but I'd rather look at the piece of paper I leave in the bowl every morning than see that again.

His work as a whole has mostly been miss, plus there are certain genre movies that I dislike (boxing, gangster) which puts several of his more respected ones out the conversation as well.  He's a capable action star, but he has zero comedy bones.
