    Hello fellow Sentinel Luminaries.

After a run of Tank learned addiction.  I thought I'd try my hand at a Sentinel.

My dream on live?  A blaster with a chin made of granite and not glass.  A blaster who could stand their ground and not get knocked over.  A blaster that 'could.'

    Sonic.  Radiation.

Much to my surprise, ten threads into the Sentinel forums.  Not a peep on a Sentinel Sonic/Rad.

Under the dark storm clouds of Sentinel AT complaints I decided to try this.  Strange as I'd just done a Sonic/Sonic blaster (defence capped for S*L and Range!) and thought that would be the end of my dalliance with Sonic.

    1.  I get what you're saying about damage.  Out of the box?  Nothing to write home about.

    2.  But you can build 'great' things from mediocrity. 😄

I took all the primary and secondary powers.  Added Hasten.  Added Havoc punch.  I got the Fight pool to boost my res' and def' numbers.

My incarnates?  I took the ALPHA Intuition to build mOAR dam in.  It also has the luv'ly side effect of giving monumental range to the previously cauterised range on Sentinel.  Which means even my 'Sleep' power or the Howl...or the Shockwave powers can reach 'way over there...'  Shriek on a Sentinel does High Damage.  (My Sonic/Sonic defender has a bit of you know what envy.)

And Radial Assault for MOAR double hit and proc style damage.

All of a sudden?  I'm rinsing Council maps from L45 onwards.  +0x8.  +1x8.  Solo!

Post 50 with the choices above?  +3x8.  +4x8 council maps.  Maps rinsed for coin and drops mercilously!

Disclaimer.  I have been back for much of this journey by the generous support of a Time/Seismic Defender!  Very stylish and powerful with the debuffs.

Really put me 'other the top' on dam'/def/recharge etc.  (Have to love Chrono'...)

I have Siren's.  I make them sleep.  I have force feedback in Shockwave.  KB to KD.  Then give them Howl.  Then rinse.  I have an AoE in my Rad armour as well.  I get an uber dam' boost from MELT DOWN!!!!

The 'Nova' is enough to hurt them.  (But the damage...all my AoEs do damage.  It stacks.  By the time the mob gets to me...it's in tatters for my Nova to blast them to smithers or single target pick them off.  Radial Assault is a joy to press!)  And I put Degen' Incarnate INterface in there as well.  Makes sense with Rad being my Armour giving off poison aura.)

I don't seem myself as a 'kill them straight away' in one hit kind of AT.  But I can tear / shred their defences and give most mobs a really hard time.  (You listening, Malta?)

With my Duo (Time/Seismic) partner, we shredded (the right word) the reputations of Malta, Carnie, Long Bow (ya aint Cap America now, are ya?), Arty, Plant People...etc.

IF you haven't tried it?  I recommend it.  It's not a blaster.  It's not a Tank.  But it has elements of both to make you a 'Tank Mage.'

I'm not comparing this to a blaster.  Or a Tank.  But my Sentinel is quite tough.  Tough enough to last long enough to do real damage.  Shred mobs.  To ruck mobs over.  (Replace with a 'F' if you wish.)

No.  You're not a scrapper with range damage.  (That said, I have several 'classic' scrappers that would raise an eyebrow at what I'm doing.)

    You are.  'The Sentinel.'

God bless you, Guv'nor.  And all who get shredded by her.

    Azrael.

I haven't played sonic on sents yet so I might give this a go

    AA is an end hog.

The AoE immobilize used to prevent Ice Slick's knockdown... I think that has been changed on homecoming though.

Flashfreeze aggros before the sleep takes hold because it does a tick of damage first. So you take an insta-alpha for using it. Then it suffers the typical problem of mobs waking up with damage so if on a team that's a guarantee.

The set conflicts with itself positionally: AA and Glacier are melee controls... Shiver and Aoe immob are ranged.

There's only so much -rch / -spd you can stack, so stacking your controls doesn't really do much when compared to stacking most other controls.

    Jack has a glass jaw.

I think the easiest ways to bring the set to match the other control sets are:

    1. Make the AoE sleep mimic electric's sleep. Any mob that enters the patch of Flash Freeze will be damaged, slowed, and slept. Repeatedly. This would give Ice another (or first?) strong AoE control early in the set (Ice Slick is pretty good... until you try it on fliers or fast runners.
    2. Make Shiver do -dmg or -resist along with -spd / -rch. Something to make it worth the pick. Heck, I'd even take a cone repel effect on it similar to Gale, sans kb / kd.
    3. Allow Ice Slick to accept IOs and put in some ticks of AoE damage from the falling down. Now you can put slow sets and AoE dmg sets.

These are relatively 'minor' changes for which I think the code is already there / could be modified (I can't say this for sure as I've not seen the code personally).

My idea for shiver was to turn it into a Targeted Area puesdo pet which pulses -rech and possibly a stun. This would make it a unique power able to slowdown the alpha. Probably breaks the cottage rule though.

  3. Hi fellow Doms,

I recently finished getting my earth/dark to 50 and thinking about crafting a build for her. One thing I have noted on my trip to 50 is how little I take notice of when domination is up other than when I need to refill my blue bar. So having perma-dom is not a necessary goal (but I usually would get it anyway).

But I digress......at this point I see two paths a ranged domtroller that spams Gather Shadows boosted earthquake, volcanic gases, sleet, Ice storm and night fall. Or a melee orientated dom using the soul mastery + procced out engulfing darkness lay the smack down. (and tohit debuffs)

I feel for either build intuition radial is the best choice with its damage, hold, defense debuffs, range and tohit debuffs. I suppose agility would work too.

I am curious how others have built their toons or would build their toons

  4. Probably the build I'll try out for now and change into FoW pool if I don't feel tanky enough. I'll keep WH in the build for now (as a proc bomb) and swap for possess later on. Thank you for your help Mezmera

  5. I managed to get 32.5% s/l def without Force of Will pool.  I might post another with the Force of Will pool. I wondering if I should get more e/n def instead chasing more recharge?

  6. Hi Everyone,

Working on my dark/energy and having a struggle trying to get ~ 30% s/l def while trying to fit in fold space and Soul mastery without gimping my build. The other option is go to Mace mastery but you lose out on a lot of damage and some end management.

Is it just me or is it a lot easier to build to for e/n and f/c defense than s/l def?

    Any thoughts?

  7. Heya folks!!

I seem to be in a quandary with this combo. Dark control does decent damage once is it is procced out where is fulcrum shift boosts damage only and not procs of course. So I am wondering how my fellow forum fellows went about building their toons. Procs/sturdiness with FS as a bonus or high recharge/defense trying to get the most out pet damage/AoE or a blend of both (etc perma haunt+ procs). Not looking for builds in particular but what path/paths people wandered in their quest for dark/kin godhood.

  8. Has anyone tried this IO out in invincible? It is worth it? My toon is a DP/invuln and I wondered if it was useful because dual pistols lacks a build up. I have in it invincibility on my scrapper but I think that is triggered by mobs nearby in that case.

Hello Scrapper forumites. I've been tossing some ideas around in my head, and I'm writing this post as a way to get some clarity.

It seems to me that scrappers have a strange place in the AT pecking order (inasmuch as there is one). Especially with the tank buff, (and stalkers having been buffed late on live) it feels like scrappers are the odd man out.

Brutes can dish out quasi-comparable damage at max fury and are tankier. Tanks are tankier and, while the damage isn't quite there, have loads of AoE. Stalkers are the undisputed single target destroyers.

    Where does that leave scrappers?

I say this with love as I was a scrapper main on live and have made more scrappers than I can reasonably count. I know that their crits are still delicious, and certain combos like TW/Bio are most potent on scrappers. But beyond a few things like that, are there certain areas where they shine far more than the other melee ATs?

I'm sure I'm simplifying things a bit, and I don't mean to be down on scrappers. More looking to be educated and spark a little debate about where scrappers stand.

    Thanks everyone.

He/she may not be the jack of all trades....but he/she is the master of fun 🙂

Just don't forget how to use this bit of trickery (which the recent Tanker changes have modified somewhat) which I've posted elsewhere, but is worth posting again here in the context of an Ice/Ice Tanker build.

Some people know about 3D Cone aiming ... but not everyone does, so I figured this was worth repeating, particularly for an Ice/Ice Tanker build.

On my Ice/fire brute I either jump up and fire the cone down or move to the edge of spawn and fire it off through it. It works well.

If you never use Flashfire then it means that you don't need it as a defensive power. Put 4 damage procs in it and it becomes a half-damage nuke, but still usable as an underslotted Stun in an emergency. I think it's about 240 damage with 4 procs, which is solid for such a large area. Although it does suffer from a low base Accuracy. My Earth/Cold is leveling up in the 30s, and with the enemies at +1 or +2 to her, she takes off about 40-50% of their health with what is really the "defensive" opener of Stalagmites.

Basically, look at your powers that are defensive in nature, but can be procced for offense, and say to yourself: "Am I using this as a normal part of the character's defense?"... if you are, then keep it slotted for defense. If not, then proc it for offense, and then you say "Do I need it still usable for defenses as a panic button, or would I be using 3 other powers ahead of it?". If you don't think you'd use it even as a panic button, slot it all the way for damage, otherwise mix 3/3, 2/4, or 4/2 for offense vs defense. In general, all Targeted AoEs have access to 3 damage procs plus a -Res, and if you're willing to use the Controller ATO that does damage, you can put up to 5 offensive procs in a ranged Stun. I think you need at least 1 Acc/Stun just for Accuracy, and probably 2.

Coyote....I haven't respecced since I hit 50....so my current build is full of extraneous powers

Thanks for the feedback, I made some changes to the set based on your recommendations. I was probably too gung-ho on getting perma haste on paper while not taking into account all the force feedback procs will get me there anyways.

Looking at it all though I now see more clearly how it might not be the best pairing XD and at the price tag this build has gotten, I'm not too sure I want to invest 700mill into a pairing that might not work well. Bottom line here is that I want to make a /storm character, but I'm not very keen on it being Illusion like a lot of the builds I see around since I'm not chasing pylon damage numbers. Earth control was another one I was leaning towards, I'll see what it would look like taking in your tips for /Storm

Nothing wrong with fire/storm...the damage is high and so is the end use. My current (relatively UnIOed) build uses the Stone Epic as you are in melee must of the time. I haven't looked into macros much but there are ones that can drop the targeted pet powers (freezing rain, tornado) at your feet.

Generally I drop bonfire > fire cages (if group is bunched up enough) > run in and smash em with freezing rain, tornado, lightning storm, seismic smash and fissure.

I almost never use flashfire unless you need to control a second group/over aggro and have never needed cinders. YMMV

I'm surprised at how few builds and topics are on EA. I also am trying to pick a primary for EA to run with a Fire/Cold Corruptor (also looking at /Time). Anyone got any advice? Thanks.

Depends are you duoing to 50 together mainly or post 50 content? Earth would be able to lock things down quickly so the fire/cold corr could scourge away. Dark control tohit debuffs would go with /colds shields as well.

This thread started me thinking about do up a /EA Controller.  I created pretty much all combos for a MM and i wanted to see what i could do in a controlled setting. (Pun intended)

At first I was thinking about Earth as that is my favorite Power.  But seeing how that plus Elec/Ill and fire were all suggested I went looking elsewhere.

Then I thought about Gravity.  Singularity would benefit a lot from Amp Up and between it Galvanic Sent and myself would make for some good quick chains.  Plus it's a more offensive powerset so maybe I can make it work.  Not sure of a actual build yet.  But I'll use what is here as a guide.

I always gravitate to to gravity too (pun intended).......

  15. Actually I made one as soon as you suggested it. I hadn't made a mind troller since live and I was looking for an interesting combo (as opposed to fire/ plant/ ill/ which I've made heaps of). I might make a earth and dark one later.....
