Considering the presence of MM pets makes the user basically invincible, I don’t understand why a couple of seconds of pet downtime now and then is a bad thing.

You obviously don't play MMs very often. The presence of (sometimes fragile, often stupid) MM  pets makes the user basically invincible? Well...I'll just go ahead and dial up to +4/x8 then! I'm glad to know that I've actually been playing MMs wrong since Issue 9 Live. Thank you SO MUCH for setting me straight!

All snark aside, how many MMs HAVE you actually played and to what level? Ask MM players during most Incarnate content and they'll tell you that they only worry about their T3 pet because the rest die too fast to be bothered with. It's SO nice to know that 2/3 of my MM's abilities need to be disregarded during high-end content.

Not every player has 2 billion+ sunk into their characters you know.

  2. Because Redside (the Villain side) came after Blueside, the developers had more experience under their belts so many of the missions are organized better, written better, or both. Becoming a Vigilante enables you to get the best of both worlds. In particular, the missions you get from Ghost Widow (earlier in your career and then later as a Patron) are interesting.

Thanks to the Going Rogue system, you can now do Tip missions to alter your alignment. The best part is that you can do the missions and keep your alignment if you so choose. I say this because some of the Tip missions are really good.

true, i have MM toons with group fly and there are certain raids (i dont want to say which ones because i dont want even more drama about it) i cant even Participate in because i can be a 100% certain i will get kicked from it at some point just for group fly.

this is not an Issue with RP though just my 2 cents to the topic of annoying buffs, because often those buffs are not meant to target other players or disrupt anyone but buffs that are mostly meant for pets and the other player just was in range to

I seldom bring my MMs on raids and when I do the MSR I summon them after the shields are down. It's just not worth the effort trying to herd my minions when there are 47 other people shooting at the towers. My paltry firepower isn't missed I'm sure.

That being said, I would LOVE for this not to be the case. IMHO movement powers should be different from buffs and thus NOT affect the team. I know that this isn't going to change and so I'll deal with it.

I'm on quite a few MSRs (and thanks to CU for hosting!) and while I often see chatter, I've never seen anyone whining about Local cluttering up their screen. Most of the RP that I'm familiar with happens at the Team level or the SG level and so the chatter winds up there. Maybe I'm just lucky that I haven't encountered an 'RP hater' yet.

  4. Given that Shang Chi spent most of his time NOT fighting the same tired Marvel villians, I was kind of hoping that the opener would be more martial arts and less magic. There's always room for that later. I shouldn't be surprised though that a Marvel film was going to turn into an FX-fest.

Could be, but I'm a confirmed Yankee.

Truth be told, it comes from a combination of good manners and a bad day in Retail. My first day on the job working at Walgreens and I was trying to help a woman who looked like she couldn't find something. 'Excuse me Miss...may I help you find something?" She flashed her wedding ring at me and with palpable venom in her voice said 'That's Mrs.!' From that day forward, men are Sir and women are Ma'am because they're marriage-neutral. So it was for the next four years. Some habits die hard.

Turn Soul extraction into a toggle & have any death (Enemies, players, pets, henchmen) spawn the ghost.

If the ghost is already out, then (while the toggle is active) have any further deaths either (A) Buff the ghost *OR* (B) Spawn additional ghosts to a predetermined limit.

This is not a horrible idea IMHO.

  7. My main reason for even worrying about all of this is because when I'm on a team, I want to carry my weight. Sure, I'm probably not the most DPS or the best control or whatever, but if I'm on a team and I'm not contributing SOMETHING then I feel like I'm getting a free ride. That's fine sometimes but mostly not, for me anyway.

Also, I LIKE having choices and having lots of powers gives me that...but sometimes too much of a good thing is bad. I have found myself building most of my Blasters with one ST Melee attack (even though some have 2-3 without going to the Pools) for those occasions when one of the minions gets too nosey. I often set up this power on automatic so I don't have to worry about triggering it...when the bad guy comes into range it just goes off. I also try to standardize my power trays (Aim and Build Up always go in the same two spots, etc) to build muscle memory. Altitis doesn't help but it is what it is.

On the plus side, I do a LOT of typing so the Razer keyboard featured above might be just the thing for me. I'll have to give it a look-see.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

Maybe where YOU were raised. Where I come from we call it having manners. I have never been to prison and, sadly, I possess a disability that eliminates military service for me despite the fact that I tried to sign up twice.

There was something like that when I started playing when HC came back online. While you can double your XP from P2W lady and earn no inf in return, you could also turn of XP in Options. Doing so meant you instead get 2x the inf. It was revoked a few months ago and caused a huge stir among the farmers. These days, I still turn of XP as to not to out-level contacts; I never really checked if you still get 2x inf when you're below 50. in any case, for content and door missions, 2x the inf is just twice the chump change in your pocket. But for farmers, it was half their earnings!

I don't know if I'm remember the next bit right, but I also had a chat with a GM once. And as you raise the difficulty on enemies, the more XP they potentially drop (defeating whites < purples), but the time you take to defeat them is also a factor. It takes you one shot to kill a blue boss, but 3 minutes to kill a purple boss; then the XP difference is negated. That's why on most of my toons, my personal sweet spot for optimum XP gain is +2x4 or +4x2 depending on the toon.

Now going back to the OP and the implications of the proposal, while in theory you SHOULD get more rewards for more difficult tasks, in practise it becomes subjective and quite hard to balance: more difficult tasks has to standardised as being hard for everyone. Just because one guy puts in more effort to kill something that takes me two seconds doesn't mean he should deserves a bigger reward. What about me? I showed awesome skill and strategy and took the bugger in two shots--don't I deserve some special treatment?

I personally think the XP reward system in the game is rather lenient. I've been on teams where a brute would wipe out the entire mob while I was desperately trying to put a dent on one. Yet the entire team gets rewarded for his efforts. Solo, it becomes more pronounced. But what's easy for one can be difficult for another; what's good for one player/AT may not be for another. You have to take a look from the wider perspective and not just your personal experience (may they be negative or positive) before you ask for something that affects ALL of us. I think the current HC team is doing a fantastic job handling this difficult task--and with no rewards for them at that.

    Very fair and honest points.

i use a razer tarterus that has 20 hot keys and a side toggle.  then i key my trays to match a key to each of the 20.  two full trays of powers with one button hit.

i run an ice/cold corruptor for most high end incarnate trials.  very powerful.  i use macros that turn each of the big location AoE powers into targeted AoE powers.  Basically i just target someone and they are the center of a very very cold day.

If you have a problem selecting target click on a very good blaster or lead tank in your team bar.  you are now targeted on their target.  then hit button.

finally this still leaves your right hand available for mouse work!

/macro Bliz "powexecname Blizzard$$powexec_location target Blizzard"

/macro IceS "powexecname Ice Storm$$powexec_location target Ice Storm"

This will cast on your target and if you don't have a target it will give you the normal ability to place it I would recommend putting Blizzard/Ice Storm on your bars somewhere so you can track the cooldown.

/macro MeBz "powexecname Blizzard$$powexec_location me Blizzard"

/macroMeIS "powexecname Ice Storm$$powexec_location me Ice Storm"

These will cast it at your location.

The appropriate application of forensic science, iinterviews with various people and other investigatory approaches obviates the need for infiltration in most cases.  When infiltration is required, it should be performed by someone... more suited to the task.  Someone other than me.

Besides, Arachnos bases are constructed from sheet metal and chicken wire, so it's not like they can hide much from direct observation.

As a contractor on at least one Arachnos building project, I can safely say that a LOT of concrete goes into those designs! Granted, I'm glad that I get done with MY work before the 'ramp and bridge' guys get in!

Considering that Positron Task Force is literally a requirement to get the most common Accolade in game and considering this guy had no badges what-so-ever that people typically get just from playing the game while clueless, told me everything I needed to know to conclude that he was a PLed 50.

Tell me, what is more common, somebody like you who played for years not knowing about how to get to ITF, or somebody who was knew to the game, got PLed, and has no clue how to get to Positron? I think you are using a very rare example in order to excuse a very common problem.

I don't have any accolades on any of my characters and I've played the game since right after ED on Live. Any badges that I get are by accident since I don't try to get them. Had two SGs. Ran weekly events. PLEASE stop assuming that EVERYONE plays the game the same way you do.

Without wanting to come across as flippant, maybe streamlining your builds to include more toggles and fewer clicks may help?  Build a blaster as ranged only, or blapper only in stead of a mix, controllers with only core functionality (common controls and major secondary powers)

You can use keybinds or macros to switch active trays, so, for example, if your range of motion limits you to say 1-5 on the numbers, then you could use three other reachable keys to switch primary tray to 1, 2 and 3, with, say, blasts on tray 1, click buffs like Aim, Build Up, Deflection Shield or whatever on tray 2, and debuffs or travel powers on tray 3?

In fact, Force Field *can* be played as a pretty hands off secondary, bubble the team every few mins, turn on Dispersion Bubble and leadership and away you go.

Oh, and the big suggestion I'd make is to not worry about having to play the game at +4/x8.  +0/x0 is *FINE*, if that's what you're comfortable with.  be up front with people about why you're set to that, and in my experience, people will most likely be fine with you.

And if they're not fine with it?  Eh, some people are idiots. <shrug>

I agree on all points and I've already discovered through trial and error some ways to make my life easier. I'm just salty that I didn't think of some of these when the game was on Live. I'm hoping to do a youtube series on the game but I wanted to make sure that I could PLAY with reasonable skill. I like MMs because they can skimp on personal attacks (maybe one for getting a mob's attention) and the rest is controlling the minions.

Using a gamepad instead of a keyboard might be helpful.

Bigger buttons for movement and ergonomic type spacing for buttons mapped to tray slots or something specific.

I had found using the one below and a mouse was pretty comfortable ( I didn't use all or even most of the buttons).

    • Button One = Tray Slot One
    • Button Two = Tray Slot Two
    • and so on
    • Then I had a button for cycling trays.
      • (Currently I only switch between Tray one and Tray two, everything else)

The down side was that typing in chat required having a keyboard somewhere handy.

Edit: If I were to rebuild AE from the ground up, I would do two things.

First, AE missions provide XP, but no other rewards. Influence is supposed to be fame and fortune; enhancements and salvage are stuff you find. None should be available in a virtual world. But second, I would allow that AE provides superior training and grants a real-world buff against certain enemies. Fight a bunch of Vahz in AE and get a bonus vs Vahz in the real world, and so on. That would encourage AE users to diversify their taste in missions.

I really like this idea! If a SG wanted to do a team event like the ITF, they could all go and do missions against those opponents. It would also be a good way to see how the team works together (since some synergy is easier to come by).

  16. I have nerve damage and as a result my hand-to-eye coordination is abysmal on a good day which is why I play on a PC (well, that and other reasons).

I have found that some ATs, mainly the ones with numerous click powers like Blasters and Controllers, become difficult to control because there are so MANY buttons. My Melee characters don't usually have this issue because they tend to have mostly toggles.

Has anyone discovered a way to make the power bars a little less daunting? I'm not unfamiliar with keybinds for some things (I like running MMs because the minions can often be buffed with a button or two and then commanded with another one) but I know that you can't trigger two powers on Auto (or can you).

    Thanks in advance.

  17. The best thing about The Isles, for me, is that Recluse is an honest Evil Overlord (tm). He won't lie, cheat, steal, or try to BS anyone into anything. 'I'm not evil...I simply feel that I'm the best qualified ruler on Earth so why shouldn't I take the job?'

He even institutes his hiring/training program KNOWING that it might enable someone to overthrow him! And if they can, well then they're more fit to rule than he is...right?

  18. Because apparently my message has been lost in the noise:

I'M FINE WITH THE DIFFICULTY FIGHTING HIGH-LEVEL ENEMIES! I simply think that EVERYTHING the players defeat should grant rewards. Yes, I remember the Rikti Communications farms. IIRC most of those were for badges like the Warwolves but it was still farming. However, I think that the OG Devs overreacted when trying to deal with some of these issues, most likely because CoH was a for-profit venture and they often had serious constraints on their resources. So they nixed the xp completely instead of trying something a little less extreme.

All I'm asking is for enemies that are defeated to drop SOMETHING of a reward. How about 5-10% of what the Illusionist herself is worth? At the high end that means that defeating all of her Summoned pets would be 20-30% bump in rewards for that one enemy only. Hardly what you would call game-breaking or farming material.

I am NOT trying to turn the top-end content into an xp free for all, I simply want to see a couple of little numbers appear over the enemy that I spent the time and energy to defeat.

Citadel even more so because of its "Independence Port! Talos Island! Independence Port! Talos Island!" mission location alternation, which made it a particularly nasty slog on Live back before the availability of Team Transporter, especially when the IP missions were in the southwest corner of IP. Reworking it so that the first couple of missions were in IP, then the next few in Talos, and the final missions are on Striga where the Council have a big presence, would be more coherent.

I completely agree. Any TF that involves zoning after every mission or even every other would benefit from 'how about 4-5 missions here, and THEN we all go to the next zone?' IMHO.

How about when you stun Crey and they wander off stunned at about a million miles an hour?

No, we're good.  That's what they do.  If you want to farm xp, make an xp farm in AE.

Wow...assume much? You're right...if I wanted to farm I'd go to the AE and farm.

I DON'T which is why I made this thread. I WANT to be able to use my powers as intended. Slow powers are supposed to, you know, SLOW things. I can see if fliers would be unaffected by any of the various 'patch' powers because that should be a benefit to Flight.

I formly resent your implication that I want this changed because I want to farm anything. I want it changed because it's dumb and unnecessary.

    • Thumbs Up 1
  21. Complaining about farming in the AE is like complaining about there nit being enough water on Earth. Whining doesn't improve the situation and any efforts to change the situation will only make it worse, not better.

Oh, woe is me...others are playing in a way I don't like. Oh, the horror.

Get over yourselves. Just because YOU think a behavior is bad doesn't make it so.
