    Hi there!

I keep getting NullReferenceException.jpg.b84f2d19e58b644e3cec4884c7d9ef9f.jpg whenever I try to run MidsReborn. I've uninstalled it a number of times. Tried installing it in a different directory but this error message keeps popping up. I'd post this in the MidsReborn forum but looks like I don't have permissions to post there. I've seen a post regarding this error before but no responses on how to properly fix it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

Clicked Update and it crashed and corrupted Mids so that it wouldn't run any more.

    Temporary solution uninstall and reinstall.

I have a older version 2.7.2.10 and was able to update in the past with no problems.

Downloaded the current version and it updates just fine.

However if I try to update the old version it crashes and corrupts Mids again.

If the update is crashing it is most likely due to an invalid requirement. Your Mids probably isn't corrupted but rather it only finished half of the update process in which it renames the old files before removing them. If you look in the install directory you would probably see a bunch of files labeled as .bak (simply remove the .bak from the name of these files and it should restore them to working order)

.NET 4.8 is required for the update feature to work, you cannot update from 2.7.x to 3.x, it requires a reinstall. (2.7.2.10 was the last release for the 2.x series)

Will there be a 32-bit release at some point?  I'm pretty sure that's the only way I was able to get it to run on Linux.  There was a 32-bit zip file before which I needed, as I couldn't get the installer to work.  I found a zip file on midsreborn.com but no 32-bit version.  For now it looks like I'm stuck with my old version.    I

You should be able to run the 64-bit version on Linux using a Wine 64 prefix.

So I just hit the update button and now Mid's  no longer works. It popped up a error window, some code I didn't catch, then I got a "Update complete Mids will now restart" popup before I could even read the error popup.

Mid's closes after that and never restarts. I click desktop shortcut, am told it no longer works.

I looked in the folder and notice it no longer has an .exe file...there is a exe.bak...I don't know what all that means. A screenie incase it helps:

    exbak.jpg.6362a6b1d68f312844ee1446a7d182a1.jpg

Just by looking at the screenshot you provided it appears something interfered with the update process. Please uninstall and reinstall using the latest installer.

In the meantime, I will look into revamping the in-app update process to make it more streamlined and prevent things like this in the future.

This may not be to place to ask this but...

I like the size of the old totals window.  After thinking about it, that may be the main reason I voted for the old window.  If you decide to keep the new format, would it be possible to make the window more similar in size to the old totals window?  Or, I could just get used to it lol!

(Sheesh I feel awful asking for anything with as much work as you all have put in - and a HUGE thanks for all that work too btw!)

Don't feel awful about asking for things. 🙂

Come hang out with us on Discord.

I saw this a few days ago btw, the latest release 3.0.3.1 now has the option to use the old totals window in the configuration options. You're welcome 😁

As stated in the title. I uninstalled Mids (I had installed the newest version from the website earlier today), and while the uninstaller was working, I watched in real time as everything that was not in a folder vanished from my desktop. And they are gone. Searched my PC for the file names, and they are not there. Used Windows File Recovery, and I did not get them back. They did not go into my recycle bin. In fact, everything that was in the recycle bin appears untouched. Everything in folders appears untouched. I don't know if that's actually true, of course. I don't really know for sure everything that vanished. So...any ideas what happened?

Acer laptop, Windows 10, all the current update. I use tequila as a launcher. Game appears to still work fine.

The MRB install itself vanished? What AV are you using?

I recently installed Mids version 3.0.2.19 and when creating builds i cannot access the ancillary/epic pool window. I can scroll down to see my inherent powers but cannot scroll down the pool powers. I can see Pool 1-4 and select those. Is there something simple that i am missing or is this a glitch?

Out of curiosity what resolution are you running?

Hey, totally understandable. you've already done way more than anyone could ask for. If you do know what kind of a designer/coder I'd need to hire to create an online version, LMK. I'm prepared to pay and give free access to all.

It would mostly depend on what language you intend to have it created in. You will need a new UI created, and then all code would need to be tailored around that. In most cases today, this is handled by two different types of developers, one that handles purely UI, and another that just deals with the code itself. With that being said there are people who can and do both. Again this mostly depends on the language intended to be used. You will also need a host for the web application. Hope this helps

I am also looking at creating a Web App version of MRB but that will happen after this next release.

Tried numerous versions of wine, winetricks and .NET and no joy.
This was a constant message: "bad CPU type in executable."
I see there's wine64 and .NET 5.0 but the lack of support online leaves me wandering around in the dark.

Wine64 is what you would need to run it on Catalina however if you chose to go the Wine route, so you were correct on that. MRB does not use .NET5 (yet), it uses .NET 4.8. Even though I myself do not own or use Mac, there are some other options I intended to explore to help Mac users with running MRB on Catalina. Sadly however I have not yet had a chance to pursue this as most of my time has been spent inside of Visual Studio working on the next release of MRB.

The version isn't really relevant, as it's the 32bit architecture that's the problem. That's why i tried PlayOnMac.

The 2.7 release uses 64 bit architecture.

    Per our Discord announcements

    Quote

    End-of-Life Announcement
Mids Reborn 2.6.x has been retired. Maintenance releases and other software fixes will no longer be performed. Software defects found in prior releases are addressed by moving to the current 2.7.x product. Database releases will however continue until such time as deemed by the Reborn Team.

Could some1 tell me what kind of a coder/designer I need to hire to create the online version of mids @redlynne has discussed plz?
I need specific job titles to find an online freelancer.

Also, does anyone "own" this software is it considered freeware at this point?

    Thx in advance.

    1) What version/release of MRB were you attempting to use with Catalina?
    2) MRB is open-source and licensed under GPL 3.0. As long as the rules of the license are abided you may do what you wish.

To reiterate it literally worked fine until it didn't. .net 4.8 is already installed (as I did some python and R). After multiple redownloads and uninstalled/reinstall the issue persist. I have seen a few posts where others have this issue also.

    Thank you for reading.

Can you post a screenshot of the null reference exception? Thanks

In Mid's I can't seem to get Rad Armour's Gamma Boost regen and recovery numbers. I see the debuff resistance numbers but not the regen and recovery.

I know it is a sliding scale so perhaps their is a trick I am missing?

This appears to be a minor bug in the database. It will be fixed in the upcoming release.

Trying again to get this to run on Linux.  Have never managed it before.  Downloaded the 32-bit installer, set up a 32-bit wineprefix, installed .net 4.7.2 (I think, it didn't say much when I did).  Then I run

    WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/wineprefixes/Mids wine ~/Downloads/MRB_Setup.exe

The installer loads up, and then there's a popup that says "Install Failed" "Mids Reborn cannot be installed on 32-bit Windows versions."  When I close the popup the installer has a message "The Mids Reborn Setup Wizard ended prematurely" with a "Finish" button, which closes the installer.

I'm not sure what's in the .zip files but I thought I'd give them a try but neither of those links work.  The first just gives a 404.

So I'm stumped again.  Any suggestions are welcome.

Primary link to the archive (zipped version) has been restored.

That's a Mids' database issue.  Terrify doesn't do -ToHit, just Damage and Fear.  I don't think it ever did -ToHit, so someone updating the DB probably mistook it for Fearsome Stare.

This may have changed, Terrify in days of old was classified as Fear (Special). Some of the things you will see in MRB are left over (reverse engineered from the data files) from the project of old/live game. Terrify at that time I believe did add -ToHit under it's special effect. Also unless it has changed on HC the power also accepted ToHit Debuff IOs and sets.

I usually have my nose deep in source to check things so I leave that to rest of my team as I continue to make improvements to the program itself.

    Thanks for the report 🙂

  19. Well since this thread is apparently moving forward, figure I'll show the launcher I decided to create for HC as we continue to work on the next release of Mids Reborn. The launcher should be done very soon. A few things left to do on it and a couple things to tidy up but here's an early preview.

The launcher will feature a custom progress indicator for downloading.
    No more forced auto downloads.
Selection between 32 or 64 bit clients via settings to keep it clean.
Ability to opt-in for the public beta branch (server).
    And possibly more....
