As stated, they really come into their own at later levels...

    1. I find that Psi relies heavily on Drain psyche, which you'll probably get to around 31-35s cooldown with a 30s duration -- effectively perma. It gets rid of endurance and makes you super tanky, always. It's literally now (after they nerfed PShockwave) the reason to play Psi. Still good because of it, but...

    2. Savage is a whole different beast (get it??) after you get the leap (and Hawk, sigh). For reference, my hawk does like 1400 damage with a BU proc lol... Anyways, it has a 2.89s RECHARGE LEAP. Blink. Blink. Blink. Bamf. Bamf. Bamf. You just gogogogogoog... GOOGOGoggogo some more... and it's aoe... GOGOGOO.

Sorry, Psi is really different - in that it's fun factor comes from being a wall, whereas savage comes from being ... savage.  🙂

    3. I have a /earth Plant too -- but I found its endurance too heavy a burden to be fun. And didn't feel like rebuilding around it, then landed on Savage (I already have praised Grav/Savage a ton, so obviously I just love /savage for Dom. It's so good.... the leap is just... it's so far above other level 38s.. UGH!

I would load up the test server and try them at max.

    It'll solidify your choice.

I really wish we could do videos again... I'd show ya 🙂

You are really good at selling Savage.  I have a feeling that I will be spending time on several Doms.

Looking at your build, what is your usual attack process?  There is quite a bit there between Plant's controls, Ice's Sleet and Savage's...well...savagery.  Love the damage tease you put out there with Hawk.... appeals to my love of those sweet, sweet orange numbers I would get with TW scrap crits.

Psi still looks good too.  I just need to look at some builds to get an idea.

I never realized all the fun choices for Dominators.  And oedipus_tex, I haven't forgotten your Plant/Kin.  I still am planning on trying that this weekend.

I will try to get to the test server.  The last time I tried, it was soooo laggy that I wanted to scream.  But I'll try it again because I really want to see what these can become at the various levels.

    Thanks

  2. So I have tried a Plant Dom.  Well, three of them.  Please note that they are all very low level still, but it was a very enlightening few hours.  Just wanted to give a first impression for anyone who may be interested.

Oddly enough I started with a Plant/Earth.  When I was brainstorming names I came up with one that fit this combination perfectly first.  So I gave it a whirl while thinking about names for a Psi & Savage,  Earth was cool out of the box.  Played the tutorial and got the badge with no effort.  Entangle and Stone Spears were a good quick attack chain.  Mobs were sticking and flopping being defeated pretty much after one application of both powers.  Moved out to Atlas and before I know it, this guy was 8th level.  Lots of fun.

Next was Plant/Psi.  Name came to mind while playing the above.  So switched to try this.  Started again in the tutorial.  Was a little surprised that after applying Entangle and Psionic Dart that mobs generally had a sliver of health left.  According to Mids the base damage of Spears and Dart are the same.  So I looked at the in game numbers and found out that Spears actually has a higher base damage (like 18% better).  So that explained that and Mids is incorrect.  Didn't stop me from playing and enjoying.  Dart is faster in both recharge and animation times, so I believe the damage works out when DPS is calculated.  Dart is almost a chain of it's own when using the free prestige enhancements you get from the P2W.  Again before I know it this guy is close to a double digit level.

Finally I tried Plant/Savage.  According to both Mids and in game info, this will be the highest T1 damage power of the three.  So I set off to play this.  First time in the tutorial I discover that I have to wait for the DOT from both T1 powers to apply.  At first, it was almost a little off-putting.  But then I saw that the Bug tics were fast (significantly faster than the tics in Entangle).  So while this combination doesn't seem to drop a mob as fast at the other two, it was still fun.   And once I got the apply twice and tab to the next to repeat figured out, it didn't really seem slow and had the badge in short order (possibly as fast as Psi).

    And yes....Plant rocks so far.

I have the Savage build generously provided by kiramon.  I'll look at the builds in this forum for the Psi and Earth to get some inspiration.

I now have to decide which one to spend more time on.  Very difficult since all three are very fun.  I'll just have to keep playing them all.

Thanks again all for your advice.

Aw, but as unrealistic as it is, I -like- to run along power lines to avoid aggro from the gangers below!   I've been doing it since Issue 0.

If we made those deal electrical damage, then I'd request a "Rubber Boots" Temporary Power be added to the P2W Vendor which would make a character immune to that specific damage.

Same here.  I consider the power lines my own version of an elevated train (well, I also run on the tram tracks too).  Maybe new travel powers from the P2W.  Car Surfing and Power Line travel?

Take it one more step and we could even go as far as have a form of Power Line travel be a type of teleport/hyper speed where you become electricity in the line and exit at designated 'transformer' locations.   Yeah....undoubtedly too much re-programming involved with that, but it does sound cool.

  4. I always loved the look and feel of Savage (on Brutes that is), I had a hard time that it is mostly DOT and, at least on a Brute, the damage seemed anemic to what most other sets offered (I still question fury's impact on the DOT).  Maybe on a Dom the DOT won't matter as much if enemies are locked down and unable to attack while they bleed out.  Psi is very nice as well and seems to have quicker overall animation times.  Plant looks amazing in overall utility, mostly DOT damage, and the animation times on the holds seem uncomfortably long.  But I need to just zip it, trust in the experience of you all and play.

I'm going to try both Savage and Psi Doms as well as a Plant/Kin controller.  I'll know more later today after I decide which one I will start with.

  5. Thanks for all the replies.  I have read posts by all of you in the various forums and appreciate all the information here and there.

Sounds like I will have to try Plant for sure.  I'll look at mids for Psi and Savage.  I'm hesitant about thorns, since my first ever 50 on Live was a Spines/Regen Scrap and I really loathed the bananas and the sound (I know that the look is probably customizable, but after the long slog in the early live days, the sounds still makes my eye twitch).   And with Oedipus_Tex's point on Controllers, maybe I will also give a Plant/Kin a go.  I may need to use the 2 XP to get me past the lean levels though.  I want the damage, I want the controls, and I don't want to see my character kissing floor.  So maybe after pushing through using Plants, I may have a better idea.

Now on to come up with a cool costume and slightly clever and ironic name.....

if cars and trucks can hurt Hellions and Skulls, they have to hurt the players too.

And yes, I know exactly how homicidal that would make some of these drivers....

I was just thinking of moving the mobs like they move us - even something along the lines like in TES: Skyrim where they shoved or knocked aside.

And yes - I have experienced more than one occasion where a car changes lanes to come at me followed by the car honking as if I got in the way.

I think a lot of those drivers intentionally try to run over us players on the off chance that we'll actually take some damage.

At one time, they said that it would be too much work to make powers color customizable.

Then Keetsi (I believe her name was, I could be wrong) managed to find an easier way to strip the baked in colors from the powers and make them all colorable.

I wouldn't mind car surfing the streets of the city...

NCSoft once said that having different gloves and books weren't possible.  Also that multiple auras wouldn't work.  But here we are with that now possible or soon will be.  I find that the HC Devs are here for the love or the game where in Live, it was a job.  Don't get me wrong, there were good devs then doing their best, but I really have come to really appreciate the volunteers that keep this City alive.

And....car surfing would be awesome!!  Maybe even create a badge called "Doing it with Styles".  Movie cred to those who get that reference.

  7. I've played on both on Live and HC casually since real life has always limited time online.  I have generally always gravitated to playing the melee ATs since it seems that it is fast and furious from the start.  I should also mention that I have a tendency to play solo since I seem to play in short bursts when I have the break from RL.

My play style shows with the ATs I have stuck with.  I have a Brute Rad/Fire farmer (fun to play but used more for funds and rarely leaves AE), TW/Bio Scrapper (soo much fun but not team friendly with the need to start momentum), and I even branched out to a ranged Water/Ice Blaster all at 50+ (great fun with KD & slows, my badger and plays most content).  I now want something that kind of combines the joy of getting in the mix like my Brute, damage like my Scrapper, and controls like my Blaster.  This has led me to checking into a Dominator or a Controller.  I've tinkered with a Controller and I just have a hard time keeping my interest beyond the beginning levels.  Dominator looks like fun and fast and furious, but I don't really know much about them and their potential having never played them.

What kind of Dominator would the experienced players recommend to level up with given my above experience?  I am all for learning new active playstyles, I just want know which power sets work best to give a fun and increasingly powerful ride to 50 and beyond.  I will play this out with little PL and will want to exemp down even when I get to 50.   I would like to be able to run higher difficulty and larger groups as well as taking on bosses/AV/GM.

Thanks for all advice and guidance.

  8. Just some general observations/wishes that I wanted to mention (with a smile since it is just fun).

    1) Spent some time working on designing an alt.  Made a really awesome look using the crab backpack.  Zoned into the tutorial, no backpack.  Come to find out in these forums that only the SOA can get them.

    2) Fighting in the streets of Atlas when I am facing off against another Hellion and along comes a truck.  I'm clicking my PBAOE and the Hellion ghosts through the truck while I get pushed, which results in my PBOE going off out of range of the Hellion.

    3) I smash yet another Hellion sending him flying off the wall below the tram.  He lands like a cat, where I jump down taking damage.

    4) I really want to blimp surf across Atlas Park and not slide off the top like it was covered in butter.

    So in summary....

    1) I would love to see the Crab backpack be available to all AT's, clipping be damned.  (I really liked the look and powerset combination I made).

    2) Any way that we can have moving vehicles impact the mobs?  Getting hit by a car should at least move them like we get moved.  Damage from impacts, I understand, would be too much to ask for.

    3) Falling damage for mobs?  Will make things like repel and knockback so much more interesting.  Imagine dropping a clockwork off a skyscraper in Steel Canyon....cool visual regardless, but can the Dev's make it them feel it?

    4) Well...blimp surfing would just be cool.  Just that.  Imagine holding a costume contest on the top of a blimp.

    Just some fun thoughts.

  9. Thanks again Jaegernault,

I will play around with my build some to try to get Speed of Sound in while keeping Shadow Meld (it really is a very good power - just wish I can keep the look as part of my costume).  Maybe this will be the excuse I need to try the test server again (the last time I tried using my Blaster, the lag was so bad it was almost unplayable).  I like the speed/jaunt idea, need to play around with some key binds/macros for targeting and then try Diamagnetic.

I want to meet up with Scrapyard again and have a rematch, or at least work on the next damage given and taken badges.  I've been able to solo AV's on a lower difficulty setting but never have I taken down a GM solo with any of my alts.  It's on my bucket list.

Redside, once you get Hero Slayer badge you unlock Lord Schweinzer, who will give you all the mayhem missions for which you have the required level. Grab those explore badges! (If you reject his first offering, you can "Talk about something else" and get an ordered list, very handy.)

He's my favorite contact in Port Oakes. I dearly wish he had a counterpart on blueside!

    47 minutes ago, iBot said:

Blue side has the same thing.  Once you defeat 25 named villains there is a contact in Steel Canyon that allows access to any of the safeguard missions.  I forget the name and can't look at the moment.

I did not know about these contacts!!  Thanks.  That would/will save me a lot of headache trying to get in those missions.  Played COH in live and now Homecoming and I'm learning there is still surprises to be found in this game.

  11. I am curious about Speed of Sound as well.  Since my build is based around your first build, I do not have a travel power.  I have thought many times how much I would like to use your BU>Parasitic Aura>Whirling Smash opener if I could just teleport into the middle of the group using Jaunt and if this would make Shadow Meld not as necessary (free up slots or even replace with another power).

Also - you mentioned dribbling Rommie to death.  Do you use anything extra (daggers, Incarnate powers, etc) to get around the regen on AV/GM's?  I ask because I am trying to figure out what incarnates I should go forward with.  I have stood toe to toe with Scrapyard solo with my T1s (no Lore yet) and held my own (and even bounced him a few times - which was sweet), but it was a stalemate as I could not out damage his regen, and with his minions running in fueling my heal and GC, he could not out damage me (nice way to get those "damage taken" badges though).  I didn't use or have anything -regen at the time.  Diamagnetic has a -regen aspect, and I was eyeballing that for AV/GM solo fights, so that was why I am asking.  I am currently using Cardiac and expect to go Musculature once Ageless is tiered up, but what is your opinion on Resilient with its' +Absorb, + Dam Res, & + To hit aspect?  Would that benefit PA and Ablative damage absorbs or will it just be overkill on a limited time buff?

It's ok to tell Twinshot, or any contact, to go suck an egg so that you can move on to another contact of your choosing.  Superheros do it all the time.  Heck, for some on-screen heroes it's one of their defining personality attributes.  (Wolverine's cameo in X-Men First Class, Jessica Jones in basically every episode).  Not to mention that if you're like most of us, by the time you're done with the twinshot arc, you're considering being a villain because every hero you've met makes you want to punch them in the face.

This......I enjoyed going Vigilante and having the opportunity to defeat Flambeux....and she still talks too much even when face planted.

Also - one warning in regards to doing flashbacks.  I haven't found a way to flashback to complete the leveled Safeguard & Mayhem missions.  I have to find a willing team member (or dual box with an alt) in that level range to join the missions so I can get the badges for the accolades.

  13. UPDATE.

Just played around a little on Mercy 'healing grounds'.  Even though the green numbers pop up 1139, the only credit that you get is 498 per mob - regardless of minion, LT, or boss status.  The contacts and P2W don't get you anything (I assume since they really do not have any hp).

Just an observation for those number crunchers.  So maybe having the Vigor alpha slotted may not have an impact on credit towards the badge since there seems to be a max amount.  May test that next time.

EDIT : Just checked without Vigor alpha.  The per mob dropped to 374.  So it definitely makes a difference.  So my recommendation above stands.

  14. I can speak to Jaegernault's builds and their effectiveness.  As in they are.  I can only describe TW/Bio as 'Really Hard Easy Mode"....given most situations.

I built mine around his one he started with in this guide,  I am curious about his changes and the addition of Speed of Sound into his later build.  But right now I found that this set combination is a bit of a slog through the early levels, but once I started getting AoE's and playing around with team size setting, I found myself chuckling as groups of mobs start getting knocked down and the "Criticals" start popping all over the place.  I was running +0/*4 pretty early.  Start adding in the ATO's and getting some good recharge going, the chuckling getting a maniacal edge.

Jaegernault's tactics are also sound.  I started using them more at the higher levels and the orange numbers got bigger and the "Criticals" more frequent.  I'm not fully Incarnated out yet, still not even +1 level shift, and I can run AE +4/*8 rather reliably.

Which brings me to the Hard Easy Mode.  I can run +4/*8, but not as fast as my Rad/Fire Brute.  But I can run more than fire farms with this build.  Yes - it takes a while and I can still be overrun if I do not pay attention.  This may decrease as I get higher tiered in my incarnates.  My Rad/Fire is fully T4, so would expect that.  In my opinion this powerset does great at large groups and hard ST like AV's.  I have had issues with doing speed TF and other missions where teams just steamroll.  The start up for momentum usually causes me to find that the target is wiped out by the other members when the attack takes place.  It was kind of annoying when I realized that.  If I can get in there first, then yes, I'm rocking.  But no travel power makes that hard sometimes.  I tend to not team as often with him because of this.  This combination also requires you to be on your game and not be watching TV while playing.  I see the floor quickly running anything higher than +2/*8 if I take my eye of the prize for anything more than a few attack chains.

Now this combination is on the slate for a nerf.....much to my disappointment since I really do not think it is necessary...so this may all change when page 6 hits.  But in the meantime, I am enjoying and chuckling maniacally with this character.  YMMV

    Eva almost had it...

    • Craft Rebirth Total Core Invocation
    • Start any level 50 Flashback
    • Go to Mercy on the helipad (behind the elevators)
    • Stand in the middle of the 1-6 large spawns of marching Arachnos
    • Set Rebirth on auto, you can almost hit all of them
    • Come back a day later to all badges if there were 6 spawns

One additional tip for getting higher heal numbers.  In addition to getting Rebirth Total Core, get the Vigor Boost Alpha (the very first level of the Vigor Alpha slot).  This will increase that +heal by 33%.  I went from about +857 to +1139.  It's all common incarnate salvage to build it, so it may be worth it to slot during the time working on the badges.

Now if I can find some other locations with the number of mobs that you can get at Mercy.  One downside of this location is if there is someone else camping the location working on their badges the groups will not reset or re-spawn.  So if that person is camping 3 spawns AFK, then it will stay 3 spawns the entire time and you cannot leave and hope to come back to find more groups.

Either way, this method works.  Got my first 250K badge in about the time it took to cook and eat dinner.

  16. Thank for all the good information.  I am currently trying a TW/Bio Scrapper.  I may use him for farming or just general scrapper mayhem (or both).  I will say, I see where some players find TW to be clunky at the early levels.  The animation & recharge times seem to really make going through the early levels a little frustrating when you are used to a faster power set...but what nice damage when you do hit.  It really starts opening up at level 10, as Jaegernault mentioned, when you can develop a chain with momentum.  I haven't tried *8 yet, but I am running at *3 since I'm still getting an idea of how this works.

I'm looking forward to leveling this.  I may try a DFB to get thru my teens and then run missions and a little custom AE to get to the AOE.  I've played Bio on a Brute before, so I'm not unfamiliar, but I like the advise you have in your guide, Jaegernault, so I'll want to run through AE to practice those strategies.

Again, thanks to all of you for the advise in this thread and all your other contributions.  I have haunted these forums for advise and guides since the day of Live, and these kind of contributions are invaluable to casual players like me.

A clip someone made of it, I posted the mids build in the comments back when it was uploaded

Color me very impressed. Looking at your build makes me realize that there are more options than what seems to be the popular fully capped fire defense farm build.  90% resists in s/l/f probably help a lot with that.  How does the aggro handle in a fire farm?  I noticed that taunt was not slotted and you actually slotted consume with an End Mod set - I HATE runners.  Do you have to hit Healing Flames often (I hardly use it now and wondering if I could find a different option for a power selection and slots)?  Looks like the build is also not dependent on perma hasten.  I prefer a more active style of play, so these types of builds interest me.  I am currently trying a Savage/Fire brute, and while it seems active, it just seems to take longer chew through the mobs than what I have seen on my Rad/Fire.  Granted, it's not fully slotted and still T1 in incarnates, but the DOT damage aspect seems anemic (no matter what my fury is).  But I could be wrong.  I'm not the speed farmer in other posts, but I like to wade through crowds of mobs and just watch them fall quickly.  It's relaxing.

    2 hours ago, Jaegernault said:

And as sick as that was, I applied the same build style to TW/bio scrapper and dwarfed the brute in every way, more HP, resistance, regeneration, recharge  insainly greater damage. The average AV lasts under a minute solo at lvl 54. Though it's a very active build and 1 mistake will floor you. But it can take on any mob at lvl 54 if you pay attention, even Rularuu

Do you have a build for that posted somewhere?  I would be interested in seeing that.  I enjoy Bio and I love seeing big orange numbers. I would love trying/creating other maps besides fire farms if it can work that way.

    Thanks again.

  18. Jaegernault, - I know that this an older thread, but can you post your build?  I would really like to see how you have everything built out that you can run a farm like that.  I'm still figuring out a farmer to match my style and would like to try this combo,  Thanks.

Frostweaver - You been an amazing resource for some of my other builds.  Just wanted to say thanks for all your posts and give you a nod of appreciation.

  19. This is probably a stupid question to the tech minded out there.  I very occasionally duo box (following CoC) but with my current set up, I can only have the game display on my main monitor.  I cannot move the second window to the other monitor.  I can alt tab between them just fine, but I would like to see if I can have each account displayed on it's own monitor at the same time.

Is this something that can be done?  If so, please let me know how.

    Thanks in advance.

  20. Anyone?

The best I can tell from playing Bads is that the primary powers that are being used are from Titan Weapons - Throwing Knives & Build up.  The secondary, which seems to be hardly used, is a flame heal.  I cannot seem to find the right combination to duplicate this myself.  On top of this, I believe that the slide for these EB's must be 100% at 50 since every level gets max payout even when I gain a level in the mission.

Is there a piece to this puzzle that I am missing (some other function of mission construction, something related to having an Ally)?  I have attempted to contact the author of Bads with no luck (email was full) as well as an author of a clone mission that looked to be the same (no response).

Please - does anyone out there know what I need to do?  Hopefully I am not trying to get state secrets or breaking etiquette by asking,  I just want to understand and build some good missions.

  21. Resurrecting this thread.

First off...love the humor in Bads.  Love the solo friendly farms.  It has really opened me up to trying different archetypes.

My question...how do you make those custom enemies?  I figured out that they are Elite bosses.  That they use throwing knives as a primary power and, I believe, what looks like Thermal for secondary.  But when I try to duplicate something on my own, I cannot figure out how to get to 100% on the slider at level 1.  Are there additional powers that are selected but not visible?  I tried to add a few to get to the 100% but the bosses used them and actually made it harder to defeat them in comparison to what is used in Bads.

I want to try my hand at authoring AR missions, but first I am trying to understand how these most popular authors do it.

    Thanks.

  22. I know that there are numerous farms out there, but they are all set to run by level 50+.  I am up and climbing there, but also like to earn the inf and experience content, so I wanted to create my own S/L farm based on my current level -1 for when I want to exemp, earn some $, and practice play techniques and powers.

Right now @ lvl 40, I'm running +0/+8 using custom enemies and pulling maybe 80-90K inf/minute before drops/sales.  This I'm sure is low by normal optimized farms, but well my main toon is not a farm build and probably will not be given that I run content as well.   Just want to have some fun, but also run efficiently with my time.

What is the best mix of enemies that will net the best gain?  I am primarily seeing an average group of 2 bosses,  3-4 Lt's, and the rest minions.  I have three ambushes set at medium difficulty and no EB's yet.  My map is the unique collapsed tunnel.   I like this map for pacing and cover to control mob swarms when I need it.  Should I add EB's?  Should I go like @ Brigg's $ farm and set up almost all EB's?  More/less bosses? Are there nerfs that I need to be aware of?  I am just getting into AE now and did not do much with it even in the Live days, so I am really need some insight from people here.

As always, I appreciate this community for all the support and advice I see in game and on the forum.

    Thanks.
