    Hulking out?

Wow. Night and Day. Willpower gives some actual defensive ability, and my Brute is SLAMMING!

    Hulking out?

Hm. I believe I'll try out Willpower. One of my Sentinels uses it, but it might be good for the Brute too. That leaves just one question... Hero or villain? My first inclination is to make him a villain... the idea being that after being transformed into a rampaging Mega-Troll, he was being hunted by all the heroes of Paragon, and fled the city, ending up in the Rogue Isles... where he would be manipulated into doing the bidding of Arachnos. He could then later transition to being a hero. However, Redside is largely deserted. I've never seen any indication of any grouping of any kind... no DFB, no taskforces, nothing. Playing heroside would be preferable for social reasons... so I'm not sure which to do.

    Hulking out?

So... I have been trying to create a character based on the Hulk (in game, he's the victim of a Superadine overdose, turning him into a kind of Mega-Troll). Initially, I gave him Super Strength and Regeneration... but I found Regeneration to be REALLY lacking. He was getting slaughtered by nearly anything he fought. Commenting in the Help channel, I was told Regen was a weak set, so I tried Radiation Armour... but it has really ugly, glowy effects all the time. So, is there a better choice? I could just go to Invulnerability, but I was hoping to give him something based more in healing and recovery... something more like you would expect from Hulk. Any thoughts? How would you evaluate the secondaries for Brutes?
  4. An adequate workaround...
  5. Ya, he's the Incendiary Man, kind of a Torch homage. However, it doesn't help using autorun, as most of the time, that's what I'm doing.
  6. Ya, I tried that, it does the same thing as the mouse wheel.
  7. I have a character who leaves a fire trail when he moves. He also flies, and when he does so, the fire trail completely obscures the camera, making it impossible to see where I'm going. I can zoom IN, or I can pan to the left or right (using the mouse wheel) without changing the character's direction, but if I try to pivot the camera up or down, which would be preferable, it instead makes the character change direction up or down. Is there some way to pivot the camera up or down without changing the course of the character's movement?

  9. Ya, I'm still hanging onto him as a Dominator... I can drop in the Fighting pool to boost his defenses some... but we'll see.
  10. So, I'm tinkering now with the third member of my variation on the Invaders. I know, they're all my own characters so they'll never actually get to team up (except in AE missions), but I like doing this kind of thing. My version of Captain America is the Stalwart Star, a Shield/Martial Arts Tanker (and boy, he's tough as nails, but uses a LOT of endurance). My version of Namor is the Sealord, a Water Blast/Willpower Sentinel. He's still pretty new, so getting better. Not as durable as I'd like, but such is life. My version of the Human Torch is the Incendiary Man... but I'm debating with myself just which class to make him, and I thought I'd poll the audience. My first thought was to make him a Dominator, Fire Control and Fiery Assault, but I've been debating making him a Sentinel because I find the Dominator REALLY squishy. However, that would give my "team" two Sentinels, and that just kind of rubs the wrong way. What do you guys think? Am I missing an option?
  11. Alas, I was in the midst of a timed mission, too.
  12. That's more a Mera/Aquaman thing. I didn't want to copy outright, I thought it would be a nice addition.
  13. Ya... but I'm envisioning him being a bit more Namor than Aquaman. I'm pairing him up (in my head, at least) with my Captain America homage, the Stalwart Star. Now I need a Human Torch.
  14. I'm actually leaning toward the Sentinel (I was thinking Water Blast/Willpower)... but I'm actually kind of enjoying the Corruptor.

  16. So, I'm trying to create a character based loosely on Submariner/Aquaman/Mera. Ideally, he'd be a tough melee type with some power over the water, but the only water powers I see are on ranged classes. My initial idea was to make him a Corruptor, and sink heavily into the pools for melee attacks and defenses. This would mean Water Blast would be his primary... but what secondary? My first thought was Ice, since that's just frozen water, but I find very little use for it. I'm tinkering with builds in Mids now, but I'm vaguely disappointed with most things I've been trying. Any suggestions?
  17. Ok, got it sorted out. The problem was that it was still trying to start the program, even though none of the interface was present. I was finally able to uninstall and reinstall fresh. As a bonus, I now have ALL the sets, originally, I was missing a couple of them (eg. Experimentation).
  18. So, I've been using the Mids Reborn planner since I came back to the game. Today, I went to load the planner program, but my shortcut said there was no program there, and when I looked, it was largely gone. The folder was there, and a few files, but much of it had disappeared. I started reinstalling but get an error, "Error writing to file: E:\ City of Heroes\Mids\Hero Designer.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory." If I ignore the error, it gives me another the same, about schema.dll, which forces me to cancel the whole thing. I'm quite perplexed, that is where the thing was installed previously. I don't know why it won't reinstall... or why it uninstalled itself in the first place. Any thoughts?
  19. For the purposes of the build, I've only used SOs. I'll probably start tinkering with sets, but they're SO ridiculously expensive and time consuming, I doubt I'll be doing much with them, or even IOs.
  20. So, I have a character I'm struggling with. Dr. Solomon is a sorceror (based loosely on Dr. Strange). I made him a Controller, Illusion and Time Manipulation, supported by Sorcery and Teleportation. I'm having issues enjoying him, though. The problem seems to be the Time powers, but I thought I'd post a build to see what you all think. This is the plan for the moment... 21. I've gone back to the Defender. Got the Corruptor to around L15 (the Defender is 21), but it just "felt" wrong... my noble, paternal Chinese Thunder God... a CORRUPTOR? Nope, had to go back to the Defender. Mechanically, the Defender was better off, too. Both classes are somewhat squishy, and the Corruptor has almost no defense of any kind until L20, when he gets Hurricane. Defenders get that MUCH earlier... so he's way more survivable. If only there was a class that used Storm and War Mace...
  22. My thinking was, the Corruptor should do somewhat more damage (Scourge), so enemies die sooner, costing less endurance.
  23. So, I have a character, he's based on the Chinese God of Storms. When I made him years ago, he was a Defender, Storm/Electric. I recreated him here, but I'm having a heck of a time with him, he's out of endurance so fast I spend much of every fight just using the Apprentice Charm, and when he does hit enemies with his attacks, it's as if he were using a rolled up newspaper. So, I've restarted him as a Corruptor, but I've never played the class before. What do you all think? How does an Electric/Storm Corruptor compare to the Defender?

    Force?

I love my Force Bolt (though I wish it would do some actual damage). Dire does not engage in petty fisticuffs.

    Force?

So, I've been tinkering with my mastermind, Lord Dire (based on Doom), and I'm at a point where I'm trying to decide which of two powers to take. On one hand, I can take Repulsion Field, which knocks foes back. Taking this acts as a sort of soft control, as they have to get up again, and it can be taken earlier, meaning I can take all the powers in the Field Mastery Ancillary. On the other hand is Force Bubble, which pushes the enemies back more reliably, but doesn't knock them down, so it really only offers the defense of range. Plus, it's at L38, which means leaving out one of the Ancillary powers. Any thoughts? Which is preferable? Here's the current plan...
