Costume slot for pets? You can change the appearance of your pets?

I have a Sorceror character that uses... excuse me, USED it. I found it rather underwhelming, overly reliant on invisibility and the Phantom Army. I've been blasting away with Electric Control, up to L10 now, and it's pretty decent. Some GREAT area effects with a nice look (though the sound is a bit meh), and even a blast power that will knock foes down in bunches. Here's what I've planned at first blush... Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.7.2.10 https://github.com/Crytilis/mids-reborn-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! I looked at that, but it was too... earthy, if that makes sense? It didn't look like energy constructs. I thought about Ice, though. I could explain that it's not actually ice, but force field constructs.

As some may have already gleaned, many of my characters are not so loosely based on existing comic characters that I grew up with, sometimes combinations of characters. The Canadian Shield, for example, is based on Captain America (for his origin) and Superman (for his powers). My current project is the Stellar Ranger, based on Green Lantern. But, he's proving to be a bit of a problem. My first instinct was to make him a Defender, Force Fields and... something. It's the something that's the issue. When I was growing up, Green Lantern really didn't do a lot of just blasting things, he created constructs of energy and used them for various purposes, from bashing enemies, to trapping them, to tossing them about and so on. That left me wondering what OTHER Archetypes might be better suited to the character, and that's brought me here for opinions. The only real requirement is that he have a Force Field (or globe of similar appearance). Right now, I'm tinkering with him as a Controller, Electric controls and Force Fields... But what do you all think?

Thanks, good info.

I usually build characters in Mids using just SOs (in part because it creates a more generic, simpler result that's consistent across characters, in part because I generally can't afford anything fancy). I usually play at more or less standard difficulty. For some characters, I'll increase the number of foes, but decrease the effective level (so it should be about the same difficulty, but with more foes to beat up). My Dominators do use the Assault powers for damage, but the damage the do is pretty anemic. For my mez powers, at least at lower level, I'll usually slot 2 accuracy. I rarely have less than 95% chance to hit (but still miss something like 8 of every 10 attacks). A generous soul gifted me with four attuned Stamina Modification enhancements (Performance Shifter), but they simply don't help much. I'd kind of like to transfer them to the Blaster, is that possible?
-
So I think I'm giving up on the Dominator version of the character. He does pathetic damage... when he hits things, which is rare. He's squishy as heck, can't do damage and isn't protected by his controls... so what good is he? I considered the Controller, Fire Control and Thermal... but it just didn't quite seem in character. I considered the Tanker, Fire Aura and Fire Melee... but that's not in character either. I considered the Sentinel, Fire Blast and Fire Aura... but I already have so many Sentinels, I wanted something different. So, I went to the Blaster. BOY I'd forgotten how squishy Blasters are... but at least he can DO damage. The Dominator wasn't any more durable, but couldn't do any damage either. What do you guys think...? How would you arrange a Human Torch-type character as a Blaster... or would you do something else I've not considered?
-
The idea is to prevent the enemy attacking you. A -recharge would still let him attack, and because controllers have no other defense, even one attack could be fatal. So, it's necessary that the control provide the defense. If it's not going to actually hold the enemy, it needs to reduce the chances that he's going to attack the player with a devestating attack (either via reduced accuracy or reduced damage). Different effects might cause different debuffs. Immobilize = recharge debuff or slowed Sleep = accuracy debuff (disoriented when waking up) Hold = damage debuff (can't hit as hard because of slight paralysis) Or something like that...
-
Controls in Champions Online are pretty well nonexistent. Beyond the fact that most of the time there's SOMEONE who has built a character capable of so much DPS that every thing is dead in less than 3 seconds, any damage done to an enemy reduces the amount of time they spend controlled. So, if you put an enemy into a hold of some sort, and then someone damages them, they will usually be freed from the hold. Of course, most AVs are basically immune to holds, both here and there. The big difference is that here, our holds still do damage. The real issue for me is that for Controllers and Dominators, they have pretty well no defense if they can't control the enemy. Fighting bosses and above, you're basically left defenseless.
-
Ya, he's lower level, so I have no damage slots in it. I've kind of gone back to Grav/Time for now... but I'm certainly not deleting anything. I think I've given up on the Electric/Time version. it's ok... but the sound effects are annoying me, so I just won't enjoy it.
-
Got one of those... it doesn't feel very Sorcerous, if you know what I mean. The effects for Time are good, I like them pretty well... My preference for effects is Gravity, but I'm not sold on its performance. I kind of like Electric, it's got some good AOE early on, and decent damage output... but I've not got very far into it... and the effects are kind of... well, not very Sorcerous, either. Illusion is ok... but I find it relies a LOT on Phantom Army, and its other effects are underwhelming. I'm just not quite able to decide which set I prefer. There's good in each and bad in each, and I was kind of hoping for some thoughts from the community about the strengths and weaknesses of each set.
-
So... it's been a while, and I've recreated this character a couple of times now. I mentioned I had made him Illusion/Time, but I've been finding he relies a LOT on Improved Invisibility. I mean, it's handy, but it just doesn't quite feel in character, as he's based on Dr. Strange/Fate, and they aren't really stealthy types, at least not all the time. Plus, I find I'm not using most of the Illusion powers, and the ones I do use are... often underwhelming. Spectral Wounds, for example, takes so long to recycle that it wears off before the enemy can take enough damage to be defeated... and then suddenly he heals, making fights take 2-3 times as long as they need to. So, I've been trying a couple of other sets. Back on Live, he was actually Gravity/Empathy, so I thought I'd recreate him as Grav/Time. It's... pretty decent. I'm not entirely sold on Propel, as it leaves a lot of annoying debris all over the place. I also miss Confuse. Then I recreated him using Electric control/Time... and it's not bad. Both Grav and Electric have actual CONTROLS, while Illusion lacks them in a bad way... which chops Illusion's damage in half, because the Controller inherent rarely comes into play. Moreover, it leaves Illusion with precious little defense, as Controllers defend themselves by controlling their enemies. In any case, I'm mixing in Sorcery, and I like using Teleport Foe, so... what do you all think of the Grav/Time and Elec/Time combos?
-
State of Super Strength? To what are you referring, because I've always found Super Strength kind of underwhelming, and have been tinkering with an overhaul idea...
-
My Sentinel (Sealord) is actually a lot of fun. I'm playing him as kind of a Scrapper with ranged attacks for support. Lay the water debuffs, melee for single targets, water for AOE. It's been kind of a blast, and he's actually fairly durable with Willpower.
-
So, wow. Been playing him a while now, he's only around L18... and BOY is he a lot of trouble to play. I have another Dominator, Psi-Psi with some Stealth... and he's FINE. Incendiary Man by comparison is HORRIBLE. He can't hit a barn, even fully slotted for accuracy, and he's gasping for breath after defeating ONE on-level minion. You'll notice he doesn't have Hotfeet, because it costs too much endurance to run... though he does use Weave most of the time. Is it my imagination, or do fire powers use a disproportionate amount of endurance and are they more inaccurate? Moreover, the "control" powers don't actually do anything to protect the character. Foes in Fire Cages can still attack. Char does help a bit, but Flashfires seems incapable of hitting anything, and when it DOES hit, it only disorients enemies for about 1-2 seconds, which is trivial. Am I missing something?
-
Wow. Night and Day. Willpower gives some actual defensive ability, and my Brute is SLAMMING!
-
Hm. I believe I'll try out Willpower. One of my Sentinels uses it, but it might be good for the Brute too. That leaves just one question... Hero or villain? My first inclination is to make him a villain... the idea being that after being transformed into a rampaging Mega-Troll, he was being hunted by all the heroes of Paragon, and fled the city, ending up in the Rogue Isles... where he would be manipulated into doing the bidding of Arachnos. He could then later transition to being a hero. However, Redside is largely deserted. I've never seen any indication of any grouping of any kind... no DFB, no taskforces, nothing. Playing heroside would be preferable for social reasons... so I'm not sure which to do.
-
So... I have been trying to create a character based on the Hulk (in game, he's the victim of a Superadine overdose, turning him into a kind of Mega-Troll). Initially, I gave him Super Strength and Regeneration... but I found Regeneration to be REALLY lacking. He was getting slaughtered by nearly anything he fought. Commenting in the Help channel, I was told Regen was a weak set, so I tried Radiation Armour... but it has really ugly, glowy effects all the time. So, is there a better choice? I could just go to Invulnerability, but I was hoping to give him something based more in healing and recovery... something more like you would expect from Hulk. Any thoughts? How would you evaluate the secondaries for Brutes?
-
An adequate workaround...
-
Ya, he's the Incendiary Man, kind of a Torch homage. However, it doesn't help using autorun, as most of the time, that's what I'm doing.
-
Ya, I tried that, it does the same thing as the mouse wheel.
-
I have a character who leaves a fire trail when he moves. He also flies, and when he does so, the fire trail completely obscures the camera, making it impossible to see where I'm going. I can zoom IN, or I can pan to the left or right (using the mouse wheel) without changing the character's direction, but if I try to pivot the camera up or down, which would be preferable, it instead makes the character change direction up or down. Is there some way to pivot the camera up or down without changing the course of the character's movement?
