I am going to post my build. Its not finished and any feedback would be great. This build focuses on taunting and survivability. I am not worried about offense and would be willing to trade damage for more def/res.
This Hero build was built using Mids Reborn 3.4.6

You have hit the 5% recharge cap and have some wasted sets.
I understand the ideas of a cap and such. How does it work or not work for recharge.
-
Hello all, so my goal here is to use the recharge bonuses and such to see how fast I can turn out damage with respawning my powers as quick as possible. Is this viable? Pretty much a solo or easy on the tank side build.

Curious what changes to defense?

Awesome thanks. I realize invulnerability is the way to go for "most" survivable. And yes all primary can be made to work. Trying to squeeze blood from a turnip I guess.

I'm looking to build out my Rad/SS tanker. My goal is build 1 to be damn near unkillable so I'm willing to trade off damage for survivability and play mostly with teams. The second build would be a solo build....damage damage damage. Please share any builds you may have. Thank you.

For even more win, make it a Rad/SS.
- Put Superior Avalanche: KD in Ground Zero. Go knock down avg. 27 out of 30 enemies it can hit in one go.
- Take Hand Clap and put Sudden Accel KB to KD in it. It's Foot Stomp without the damage... or the foot, I guess. 🤪
- Take Mighty Radial Final Judgement. Find a large crowd of Scrapyarders and show them near Earth orbit.
- Slot KO Blow for knock to send one more into orbit to keep them company.
- You want Energy Mastery for FA, so squeeze Energy Torrent in there too strictly for variety.
Sure, sure... you could do more damage. But can you have more FUN? I don't think so!
This is my current tanker I'm shooting for. The other would be the "most" survivable tank. Thanks.
-
Thank you all for the feedback. Thinking about it further, would combined Inv/Dark and Arctic Mastery be the essential build when trying not to get hit?
-
What power offfer a better choice regarding a secondary effect a damge power has in regards to survival? The minus to hit (dark melee), slow or minus recharge (ice melee) or knockdown (stone melee)?
Looking to build a survivable tank (yes i understand all tanks can be good) using either stone, ice or invulnerability to pair with a secondary previous mentioned. If the goal was to be hit as little as possible what works best. Thank you.
-
Thanks for your feedback. I am thinking of optimizing this build / set more for offense. Initially i thought survivability but I can use a different toon for that. Where would you trim the fat?
-
Looking for feedback on my potential build. Thank you

I had Mids on my computer then it started getting all funky and not working. I have removed and reinstalled a few times. When I try to open it it shows the main screen then nothing...thoughts?

SD/DM is icing on the cake which is overkill
So it's not worth it?

Thank you for your response. I understand your points about each power set. DM always offers a set of skills that balance SD and to a degree so does Rad but not as much.

Rolled a few different shield tankers thus far. SD/DM SD/RAD and SD/MA.
I am asking those who have rolled tanks with these combos what their thoughts are on them. I can make all of them work concept wise yet DM always seem to just feel magic like so that seems to lean towards a certain way. I understand Shield is great on a tank and DM seems to offer the best utility of the secondaries yet MA does provide the def buff and it fits nicer in a way with shields (Captain whomever). OR is shield better suited for a scrapper? Just looking for help in what benefits shield offers to tanker versus other AT. I have plenty of tankers ready to move into the 50 zones and want to take focus on one or two and make sure I am not missing anything with these combos. Thanks!
-
To clarify im running ice / rad. AoE agro magnet. The issue I run into is filling ice weakness. I love ice armor but I hate feeling squishy. Goal is to just be a sponge for agro and damage yet maybe I'm picking the wrong set.
-
Perhaps Im over thinking it but does anyone have a god like build for ice armor?
-
Thank you for the builds. From what I have read and based on the history of stone armor, granite is no longer the go to correct? Is it based of its drawbacks or is it just better to build through the other armors?
-
Hola fellow COHers. I am currently leveling a stone armor / ice melee tanker. I would like build advice for my final destination once I reach 50. My goal for this tanker is uber survivability, take damage, hold agro and control. Any and all builds and advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello there! This is a great powerset combo, and I'm sure you'll have a blast with it.
However, this build really needs a ground-up rework - it would be hard to provide effective input in detail in its current form.
With a defense set such as Shield/, you want to consider first hitting your softcaps for positionals (ranged, aoe, melee), achieving this in the most efficient way possible. This is actually pretty easy to do on a Tanker because base values are high, but you have enhanced many of the wrong powers, and enhanced some powers in a very inefficient way.
In mids, pay close attention to what each power does. A few examples:
- Deflection is primarily for melee defense, though it's worth hybrid slotting for S/L resist as well. You only have it slotted for resist.
- Phalanx Fighting doesn't benefit from defense enhancement at all - these 6 slots are wasted completely.
- True grit is way over slotted past ED caps, and the set bonuses aren't anything great for this investment.
Generally speaking, you have some weird set choices across the board, and have overinvested in full 6 slots for these sets with no great pay-off. Even if you find the 6 slot bonuses worthwhile, balance that against actually enhancing powers for their baseline value properly as well.
I don't mean this to be overly critical! I would encourage you to take a look at one of the many great Shield/ builds on the forums and use that as a basis to move on from. Every build will have its own priorities of course.
As an example, here is a SD/BS build I put together for someone lately. I'm not saying this build is actually perfectly optimized (though I think it's solid for sure), but it will give you a useful framework to go by:

------------Note that the build above is very geared towards extra layers of defense, achieving not just 45% normal softcap, but hitting incarnate softcap (or near) for most positions. You could strip some defense and gear it more offensively for sure.
Resilient core is not really doing much at all for you here either. If you want an Alpha that hits +resist, go for Cardiac Core, which will provide outstanding End support as well. Personally I prefer Musculature radial, but this is a matter of taste and how you balance other priorities.
Make sure you disable Barrier when looking at your totals in mids as well.
When you are building, it's worth asking yourself what goals you are chasing:
- On defense sets, at least 45% defense to all positions should always be your first goal. (or types if typed defense instead of positional)
- Beyond this, you might also choose to hit ~59% for incarnate softcaps.
- Perhaps instead you chase damage through maximizing ED and proc damage in powers that benefit from this the most.
- You might also prioritize recharge in order to create optimal attack chains and abuse high-cooldown powers.
- You could even try to squeeze every ounce of resist across the board, or chase 90% in S/L or other key resists.
Not all of these goals are mutually exclusive, but there is a trade-off between them in where your slotting focus can stay. Consider what is important and build toward it.
Thank you. I have been playing around with different selections and want to be efficient.
Ice Armor Questions

I have been playing around with mids and I'm not necessarily a mid / max guy but I have focused on different aspects of multiple builds. A few questions for those who run ice. Is there a benefit to focusing on regen and health? I can get some pretty good numbers regarding resists so I thought maybe a more balance approach or go all in on healing / regen. Thoughts?
