  1. I was experiencing the same problem. I uninstalled the old version and reinstalled the new version and it works again.

  2. My regular content Stone/Rad Tanker is currently my afk support for my active fire farmer and it always works out great. Perhaps a second build specifically for being my fire farm companion is in order since it seems promising.

I will take a look at your build and use it as inspiration for building my own. I can share the results later if I discover anything interesting or worth mentioning in my choices, though I am sure yours are probably better, I just like to build my own. Thanks for sharing and also thanks for the fire maps I use your's all the time.

  3. Thanks for your insight. It sounds like this build is definitely on the right track, but I could see how with your suggestions I could squeeze out a little bit more recharge and resists.

Though it doesn't seem like a glaringly urgent reason to respec, I do think I will take your suggestions and put a new respec on my radar in the future, this is my project tanker after all, may as well plan the next respec.

Out of curiosity, what suggestions would you make outside of the play style presented? Just curious if there is some utility I am missing? I tried to make it so my to-hit and slow resist were capped because my survivability is essentially the heal and my resistance, so I wanted it up as often as possible. There is no way to get -regeneration resistance that I know of.

I didn't realize you could also slot the prestige sprints. I mostly just put that stuff into Mighty Leap to make traveling more fun but they were essentially leftover slots. If I put the +jump io in a sprint will that combine with Mighty Leap when toggled on, I guess so? Maybe that could go into beast run or something.

    Thank you

  4. I think I may have finally figured out my Dark Armor / Savage Melee Tanker Build.

I was able to defeat all the enemies in the trapdoor mission on 8x/+4 settings in under 10 minutes, good for a tanker I think (video included).

Let me know what you think about it, always open to improving things but I think I might finally be there in terms of improvement with this one?

  5. I am not on my gaming pc so can't look at your build right now, but this one is my stone/rad tanker. For the most part I had similar goals. I am sure the proc supremacists will have a problem with the build, but I feel powerful on it and enjoy playing with it. Note: Focused Accuracy only needs to be on when you get hit by lots of debuffs

Here it is. Let me know if you have any questions. The one thing you will want to mitigate with incarnate choices is Defense Debuff Resistance, stone only naturally offers 50% of it, but you have a few options to fix this, the destiny core with debuff resistances is the most obvious choice, as the +recharge will also help you ramp up dps.

  7. With that slight modification to the build to improve recovery (and picking up clarion) I can solo 8x/+4 at level 50. I stand by my opinion that most of the problems mentioned about my build are style and not substance.

I don't care for the proc way of life and it doesn't really help improve support on a team which is my main goal. I wouldn't play my defender to solo but I could if I wanted to with this build. I may not be the best at range, but the build is suited to being up close to the action. I can kill just fine solo, which would probably be run +2/3x and a lot faster than this, but I wanted to test the limits.

On a team I am not sure what more you could need on Poison? I can survive getting hit by all sorts of things to use my debuffs that can be stacked several times as needed to support my team. As long as I stay close to the team my debuffs seem to keep most of us alive with only the occasional need to use alkaloid. I don't think people are bringing a defender along because they can load up on procs and I see no obligation to be more vulnerable to eating dirt just because I am not a scrapper.

  8. @Nayeh

To clarify, I am not saying that you are without your potential insight, only that you aren't giving it because you are making criticisms of things that just simply aren't true or are more stylistic choices and not based on the actual build. The video below is the build in play at settings 8x/+2 exemplar to level 39 and as you can see it survives just fine, the recharge is plenty, the attack chain is fine, and the ranged and aoe defense are soft capped in combat, the melee defense is soft capped with venomous gas. Keep in mind this isn't my solo character, I intend to be on a group, so on a team, survival at +4 is just fine.

That being said, there was still a nugget of wisdom in your advise that I felt otherwise mostly missed the mark on my build and that was stamina, you are right, endurance recovery is my weakness, especially when exemplar and without incarnates and you gave me the motivation to fix that. So I revised my build to get a tad bit more endurance recovery while still keeping most of the rest of it the same, the results are below. If you are willing, feel free to provide critiques on how I can improve the build based on what it actually is and not flawed assumption.

If you are as wise and knowledgeable as you claim, how is it that you don't know that you can configure Mids to display stats when you attack or are attacked?

it’s a great example of a build that would be better on a scrapper or sentinel than a buff/debuff support set

positioning and proper team play will always be a more effective survival strategy than relying on set bonuses to facetank every mob

    #bringbackdefenders

So don't make a build? Or be less survival and...? It is easier to say what not to do than it is to say what to do.

I am of the opinion that defenders should defend and they can't do that if they are dead.

Positioning on a poison/rad defender means being in pbae range. I need to be in the thick of things to be at my most potential, where do you think a poison defender should be?

Proper team play? Isn't that making it so as many things are debuffed as possible? That is what my build does.

Funny how the post above says that I don't have enough attacks (which you seemed to like) and yet you say the build is like a scrapper or sentinel. How can that be when it is setup to debuff as much as possible and has fewer attacks than most builds? What about making it so every purple is debuffed fast is like a scrapper/sentinel? Or am I supposed to eat dirt more to be a true defender?

    Well... uhm... I guess that's a build.

I personally wouldn't recommend that one. A few things I can already pick out:

    • To much focus on chasing set bonuses and Defenses - Some powers are criminally over-slotted.
    • Defender ATO Vigilant Assault can be split 3-by-3 across 2 powers to gather 10% Recharge Bonus (x2)
    • Deceives you with Stealth toggled on for Defense
    • Neurotoxic Breath over Poison Traps
    • Consume with Stamina under-slotted
    • Rise of the Pheonix and Phase Shift...
    • Only '1' Ranged attack for Damage. At least get Proton Volley or Cosmic Burst.

It is hard to take your critique too seriously when you don't even know about basic settings in Mids. You can go into the configuration settings and change the calculations to show what it looks like when you get attacked or attack something.

  12. To answer my own question? I was doing more research on this and it seems that rad armor / super strength is actually the popular choice for tank farming. Also instead of fire farming, it will be smashing/lethal farming, which presumably should be harder to nerf because a lot more things do S/L damage.

Super Strength is useful for the double stacking of rage and also the wide radius of foot stomp on a short reuse timer. Radiation is useful because of the +recharge from the damage aura, the extra damage from meltdown, and the extra wide pbae.

I read through a lot of what America's Angel was talking about on the page 5 farming guide, and it seemed that one of the quirks to tanker farming is the ample use of procs. While this probably does leave the potential for future nerfs, for now it should work.

I am leveling up my character now, but it will take a few days at least to get it up and running, I will report back when I get to play around with it on a farm.

  13. I know many folks on here don't like to have travel powers on farmers. I get it, your money can be your travel power.  I suppose a travel power at level 10 is just a stylistic/roleplay choice for me (I am on Everlasting). If you would rather not have a travel, this one is +50% more generation and 16% more recovery than the build with a travel power but is pretty much the same thing.

    No travel power tanker farmer.PNG

  14. I read through a lot of the advice in this thread, thank you America's Angel and other contributors.

This is my S/L Rad/SS Tanker fire farm build, I am open to suggestions for improvement.

I ended up getting 90%+ S/L Resistance, 45%+ S/L Defense, 600% Regeneration, 150% Recharge, 182.5%+ Damage, +35%+ Accuracy, +43.28% To-Hit, and loaded up with all the procs I could fit.

I get pretty obsessive with these things, but I think this checks every box? I am not sure.

Also, it seems that the build is about as cheap as you can get assuming you allowed yourself to splurge on roughly one ATO set, one Winter set, and one Purple set. I end up farming and accumulating enough purples that is fine with me, but I think it is at least a mid range budget build? Funny enough I didn't even intend for it to be that way.

    Witch Tanker SL Farm Build.PNG

  15. Whoops, I didn't mean to delete my post about rad/dark tanker as a farmer, but I think I figured out the reason why super strength is better, the 15foot radius is bigger than anything in Dark Melee. Sadly I think that means a new character is in order, though I do love my rad/dark and my still consider making it a farm build.

What are folks suggestions in terms of how to fill in the rest of my aoe gaps? Is Cross Punch worth it? What about my epic pools, should I go with Mu Mastery for the added aoe, or is focused accuracy necessary (helpful maybe with proc slotting?).

    Thanks in advance!

Also thanks for your farming maps America's Angels, I always rate them 5 stars and recommend them to people.

  16. I have seen it mentioned in several places now that tankers are now faster farmers than brutes in page 5. I always drag my stone/rad tanker with me to help hold onto aggro, but I am thinking about making a tanker just for fire farming now.

Thoughts on the best combo for this? I have seen fire/ss mentioned but have never played super strength, would that be the best bet? I know the classic brute choices of spines and radiation probably also work, is there any I am not considering? Is fire the best secondary for this or maybe something like bio armor or radiation armor? Thoughts?

My main farmer is a spines/fire brute so they would more or less work together one on each screen.

    Thanks in advance!

  17. This is my poison/rad defender build. I like to start a build off by figuring out what I need to be survivable because I think a defender should be able to survive. Usually on a defender that means figuring out how to soft cap positional defenses. With Beta Decay or any other -to-hit buff you are going to have an easy time soft capping defenses. If you don't have a survival tool like this you can always aim for ranged/aoe defense and fly.

After survival I like to focus on building up my attacks, in fact I tend to start with building my attacks because often you can fill in a lot of defense with set bonuses. If you can get 4-6 slots on each attack you are in good shape here.

Another thing to look for is recharge since you are supportive you want it to be available as quickly as possible, for that reason LOTG are good and also Hasten.

Another thing to consider is a travel power. I like to pick one at level 10 because then I have it even when I exemplar down to level 5, and below that is few and far between.

Unless you're pvping that Acc in Taunt is unnecessary. It's autohit in pve.

You'd be better served with a Taunt Duration IO or a Range IO.

LOL, I have had taunt wrong all along, I wondered why it seems never to miss despite having accuracy in mids. I guess I might as well make it a proc, taunt duration or range. Thanks

Depends what you fight and at what level.  Earliest you can take FA is 35, so you'll only have it in content level 30 and above.  Unless you wanted something else in your build there and ended up pushing FA later.  If you're always doing endgame, then it's not a concern.  I keep some yellows around for exemplaring below 30.

FA and Energy Mastery is something I respecced into when I ran into a lot of toHit debuffers and didn't like being reduced to a taunt bot.  If you're not experiencing that, it could be just the content you prefer running doesn't feature that much toHit debuffing.

Thanks to your input this is what I ended up landing on. I couldn't quite get to 100% slow resistance, but 80% isn't too bad, of course I also picked up Focused Accuracy. Unleash Potential was really an afterthought but I was able to get it to cap out my defenses with an up time of once every four minutes or so. Which in my book is just fine for a power I don't plan to rely on too much.

Now I am seriously considering if my radiation armor tanker needs a respec, they have no to-hit debuff resistance at all. Their recovery debuff is thankfully pretty close to cap at 90%. The secondary is Dark Melee, so perhaps this is less of an issue for them since they get pretty close to -45% to-hit on a regular basis between Darkest Night, Beta Decay, and landing just one attack. They sort of back into soft capped defenses. I think I may just load them up with yellows since they don't need inspirations anyways. I sort of like the concept of them being a tanker with soft defender like abilities, I like the idea that I can help my team avoid being attacked.

    Thanks for all your help!

  20. If it helps, this is currently what my dark armor / savage melee tanker has slotted. Perhaps I should just drop Darkest Night and Gloom for Focused Accuracy and the regen/recovery buff?  That would also give me 3 more slots to work with. Is focused accuracy fine with just two endurance reductions (maybe just one?). I could beef up Unleash Potential more and maybe swap Oppressive Gloom out for hasten again. Pretty much everything from level 38 on in my build is negotiable.

Despite the name, Focused Accuracy isn't really about accuracy.   I mean, It DOES add some accuracy and some +toHit, but not enough of either to make you want to take this power given, as you rightly point out, the high cost of running it.   The real story, as Yomo just noted as well, is the toHit debuff resistance.  If the power did ONLY this... I would still take it.  It's why I take it at all.  It is particularly useful if you don't have reliable defense, which is another reason it matters I'm responding to a Dark Armor tanker.  Defense based tanks enjoy not just getting hit for damage less often, but getting hit with DEBUFFS less often.   They still take the autohit stuff, but it's less overall debuff.  On a res-based Tanker who not only gets hit more often but, simply by virtue of being a Tanker, WANTS everyone to attack them, toHit debuffs can be a serious pain.  If the endurance cost is a problem, you can run the power only when you noticed you've been debuffed.  The debuff resistance works the same before or after the debuff is applied to you.  So you can safely use it reactively rather than proactively.

I didn't realize how much to-hit debuff resistance it grants, per city of data 86% on a tanker. Very interesting indeed. It seems that it is more helpful that I realized. Maybe I should just go back to a build without Darkest Night and pick it up with Unleash Potential and Focused Accuracy? It is a tough decision, I haven't really noticed that accuracy was a problem, but I also leave it so I get blue and yellow inspirations only on my dark tanker. Maybe I could drop the yellow candy this way?

First and foremost, assuming we’re talking about a Tanker here, there’s not a lot of reason you shouldn’t already be Res capped with the very strong probability of having 45% S/L/Melee. While Scrappers do have a lower cap, Tankers stretch values further and Scrappers can full cap and achieve the 45% pretty easily.

A general rule of thumb I build by on Armor sets once they start reaching cap levels is to go off the main form of protection and determine how to continue maximizing that once it “caps”. For Defense you can just stack more defense and also look for ways to help protect that defense with DDR like in Ageless Radial. For Resistance it’s self protecting and once at cap there’s really no purpose in having more, but you can create fake resistance in the form of -Dam which is almost like adding an absorb layer to your armor. Lower the damage dealt, and then resist that remaining portion even further.

I am on a dark/sav tanker and I originally went for 45%+ positional defenses and my mostly capped resists, but that required a ton of toggles to keep up and the the lack of DDR made it seem like a waste when I needed it most. Instead I changed to have 30%+ all positional defenses and picked up DN and UP to bridge the gap.
