Focused Feedback: Travel Power Updates (Build 1)
Tigraine replied to Arcanum's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
So, going off of my previous question regarding how these trays will interact with Kheldian forms - if the "Mystic Flight popup tray" is disabled, will that also disable Kheldian popup trays (or any other similar trays), or will they be controlled independently? -

It's not a setup that can be easily shared. They utilize a Logitech gaming keyboard's macro key functionality to work. -

No, it really can't. Not without completely reworking what I have from the ground up, and that means changing 15 bind files that took significant time and effort to get to work in the first place. No, "simple" means not using binds/macros period. Making them not mutually exclusive doubles this effort from what it was before. Sure, it's "just one more click," but that's one more click on top of all the others that must be toggled when entering/leaving combat, and it's an effort that was previously unnecessary. You may not think it's a big deal, but it's introducing a new inconvenience that didn't have to be there. How much that inconvenience matters to different players is going to vary widely, and you can't just dismiss that some people do not like it. -

You would be surprised. The number and nature of questions I've gotten about binds and macros... ugh. -

@Jimmy Will you issue the same warning to those on the other side of the argument who have been "clogging up the thread" equally if not even more so? -

But you can toggle Ninja Run off when you don't want it. Short of doubling up all your costumes with ninja stance/non ninja stance versions, you can't toggle off the stance. And even if you did that, it would effectively be on a 15s cooldown. -

For some characters, I've used some complicated keybind files to toggle between hover/fly or switching them off, while also swapping costumes. With two keys, I could go from any state to any desired state. These do not work now that the powers are not mutually exclusive. So for complex setups, it doesn't work. For most of my characters, I just had keys assigned to the Hover and Fly powers, no macros needed, and I could just hit one or the other to turn them on as needed, and rely on them toggling the other off, or still would only need to hit one to have neither on and land on the ground. It was an easy toggle from travel to combat to being on the ground. That will no longer work either, so it doesn't work for the simple setups. And I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, just from my experience, many if not most players don't use macros, and just want a simple setup. -

Not everyone wants to be in that stance 100% of the time though; just when in combat or actually running. -

No, my confusion was how in two consecutive posts, Captain Powerhouse stated that 1) "the goal of the suppression was to allow players to attack without de-toggling the power", and 2) that the power would detoggle when the player attacks, two directly contradictory statements. -

I think Hasten, Tough/Weave, and Maneuvers/Tactics are all far more guilty of this. RoP is hardly a "every build must have, regardless of theme" power; it's just important to the builds that do rely on it. Until the other more popular "needed" pool powers get addressed, there's really no foundation for this argument for RoP. -

Not continuing this conversation here as there is a focused feedback thread, where this exact problem has been discussed. Go read up on it there if you don't get the issue. -

By numbers, it's a buff. By mechanics, it's a nerf. People clearly have different priorities and preferences here, and we need to recognize that we're each coming at it from different angles and stop speaking in absolutes that dismiss the other point of view. -

Except for duration and defense, as was already pointed out. And as Troo noted, the number of tray slots needed. Just because you don't care about those things does not make the new version better in those regards. -

Read the new beta patch notes. Fly and Hover will no longer be mutually exclusive; therefore, toggling one on will not toggle the other off. -

That's your opinion. And what's wrong with an "oh crap" button that removes you from combat? -

Except in duration. And defense. Two things people relied on. -

ScariSai is right, that's not what I was asking. More curious how tray-swapping will work when changing forms from human with one of these powers active; will there be any glitching/interference preventing trays from coming up, overwriting each other since they use the same flags, etc.? -

How will this work with the Kheldian shapeshift power trays? -

What does that have to do with Super Speed? -

I already did in my previous post. SS stealth compensated for no vertical movement, to be able to navigate across maps. It was not intended to give it a "mission ghost" ability, which is something above and beyond what a primary travel power is supposed to do (you know, "travel"). -

We're talking mechanics though, not thematics. It unbalances the travel powers. -

Take off EvM though. Infinitum's qualification was "just fly" = Fly + AB. -

I don't think this was ever the intention of Super Speed's stealth component. As I understand it was there just to avoid aggroing mobs and getting stuck in fights while traveling through a zone, since the other travel powers could avoid this by gaining altitude. Intentionally making SS the "mission ghost" power is making it do something it was never intended to, and giving it a function none of the other travel powers have. -

I believe someone earlier suggested making the function disabled as the default, and needing to go to Null the Gull to turn it on. The assumption of course being that this would require fewer trips to Null the Gull for people in total, but you'd have to poll some numbers to prove it one way or the other.
