The less said about my own attempts at figuring out the base builder the better.
The base in question would be a simple office building, though not a large one. Ground floor would be the business' office area, like a reception desk, conference room, maybe a data vault and/or file room.
Second story would be a living area, like a real nice luxury apartment. Think "penthouse suite." If it's not too much work, a basement level would also be great and include a bunch of training equipment, both physical and magical.
The idea is that the business is security consulting, with hopes to grow into a small, private security firm. This is a civilian-side business and cover for his vigilante activities. The office area should reflect that business.
The upper level is his residence. He's well-off enough to live in a penthouse, but wants to keep a low profile, so instead lives in the upper level of his office building. He has the money to live well, though, so the living area should reflect that.
The basement level, if there is one, is where the security "specialists" (and protégé vigilantes) do their training, both physical and magical.
I have 300m on hand right now, but more comes fairly easily, so if you need more, let's talk about it and work out a reasonable price.

Yeah I do think its definitely time for a name purge as it's getting harder and harder to find names. It must be annoying for a brand new player coming on and seeing all the names taken. At least of people who haven't been on since the first 3 months of HC's launch, preferably of anyone who hasn't logged in since September or October 2019 IMO. We're three years in now. Actually just over three. Thats plenty of time for the people who haven't logged in since month one or month two of HC to log in and be active. I think at this point it's pretty obvious they only came back for nostalgia reasons or just to peek at what all the fuss is about, and now they've got that they have no intention to play or be active. And even if they do log back on one day I'm sure they won't be too devastated that their level 1 they haven't logged in for 900+ days is gone. If they even remember that they had that name.
As Attache said, during that first month of HC there was a lot of squatting of good names by people who haven't logged on since and now they just sit with a level 1 in their character selection. Even just doing the first three months of any non 50 would free up A LOT of names, first six months would be even better.
EDIT: Actually, thinking about it, would there even be a way to generic all names that haven't logged on since a certain date? Or arent of a certain level? Or would it have to be individual since that would take a lot of time? Thinking about it I think the way they did it on live would be best, send an email and make a discord announcement saying "You have until this date to click this link/log into the game on a character or it gets generic'd"
See, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Reasonable, fair, and sensible.

One difference is that the name purge freed up some names and put it back into availability for everyone. So every active player had a shot at the names freed up. What you want to do only benefits you and only you.The biggest difference is, what you want is massive violation of trust between the devs and players. When the original CoH team did the name purge they sent out communications saying hey any account that has not been active since X amount of days will be purged. If you don’t want your account purged then log in. They made attempts to give those inactive account owners chances to keep their account active or have them purged. Essentially you want a GM to go behind a player’s back, without their knowledge or consent, change the name of a character on that account just so you can have access to it.
I feel like your argument is a little disingenuous here, since literally the only differences between what I'm asking and what you're talking about is that your way is a free-for-all and is in regard to entire accounts, not singular characters.
Attempts can be made, emails sent out, and time allowed for the account holder to respond. It's literally the exact same thing, except instead of a massive sweep of ALL accounts that have been inactive for X number of days, it's specific characters. Don't go throwing shade at me like I'm some evil jackass looking to screw other people over when all I'm asking about is IF such requests can even be made.

Sorry guess I should have made my statement clearer but the answer in regards to a GM going into another player’s account and do a generic’d name change on a character on that account just so you can get that name is going to be a resounding NO! Back then The CoH team generic’d character names for legal reasons. What you’re asking for is way out of bounds and I hope and pray that no GM gives in to that request, ever. I understand that there’s a name you want very badly but it’s not justification for you to make that request to a GM.
How is that different from the name purge you were talking about before? Is that not what you were referring to?

Doubt it as having a GM change the name of another player’s account opens a can of worms that the HC GMs don’t want to deal with. I think a maybe a name purge for inactive accounts might be a better option but last I remember the GMs that they would do one a while back but that never happened.
Not change their account, I'm not talking about their Global Handle, just a character name.
I remember back on Live, certain characters would suddenly get Generic'd if they broke some copyright rule, so I know the powers exist. I just wonder at this particular usage.
-
Been trying to reach out via global to a name holder, but it's been a long, long time with no response.
In the event that the player is no longer active, and hasn't been for a long time, do you think it's possible the GMs might be able to help? Like, check the idle threshold and if it's been long enough, GenericHero the character in question to free up the name?

So, here's what I've been able to come up with for StJ/Elec.
I know it's overcapped for Energy Resist, but I'm not sure how to improve upon it and cut down on waste.

I honestly think you'll be very happy with either StJ/Elec or StJ/Nrg. Both will be solid. Really comes down to whether you want to be hidden all the time or not due to Nrg's Cloak.
I don't want to be hidden all the time, heh. Part of why I've never gone for Stone or Ice armor is because they obscure my character. That's also part of my issue with Rad Armor. It's very powerful, but visually very busy too.
Rad has a lot of good utility, though, and two proc bomb powers, as well as a negligible crash on the T9, whereas Elec's T9 has a debilitating crash, so I can't see myself using it as more than a set mule. Thoughts on /Elec vs /Rad?

Wanting to recreate my old main from Live, who was a SS/Elec Brute, but also wanting to evolve him. He was a power-armored hero who started as an Arachnos operative, was betrayed, and flipped once Going Rogue came out.
I know Electric Armor is still solid for Brutes, even better than it used to be, now that it has Energize, but I'm wanting to get some feedback on other Secondaries that would pair well with StJ and perform well. Invuln I know remains solid, though perhaps not quite the gold standard it once was. Radiation Armor is one I'm familiar with and also performs well, and the +Rech aura may help with cutting Heavy Blow from my attack chain (keeping it to Rib Cracker, Shin Breaker, and Crushing Uppercut for my ST). I know Shield is good, but I'm not a fan of clickable MezResist and it feels to "all natural" for a guy in power armor. Energy Armor is one I'm not familiar with but hear good things about.
What say you, forum experts?

A mix of ranged/melee lends itself to blaster manipulation and dominator assault sets.
Generally speaking, yes, but those powersets are heavily weighted towards Ranged powers with a handful of Melee powers thrown into the mix. Whereas this is more akin to Spines, Claws, and Kinetic Melee where it is predominantly a Melee with a few Ranged attacks.

So, I had an idea that I'm sure many others have wanted: a hybrid melee/ranged powerset using a sword and pistol. This set would be primarily used by melee ATs (Scrappers, Brutes, Stalkers, Tanks) but also available as a Secondary for Dominators. The idea is that the melee sword strikes are light and quick, whereas the ranged pistol attacks are slower and heavier.
Tier 1: Flick
A quick flick across the eyes with the sword
Single Target - Melee
Damage: Light
Recharge: Very Fast
-Acc, -Def(All)
Tier 2: Opening Shot
Stand up straight and turn sideways, extend arm to take aim, and fire
Single Target - Ranged
Range: 30ft
Damage: Moderate
Recharge: Moderate
-Acc, -Recharge
Tier 3: Rake
Duck and make a back-handed slash at belly-level in a wide arc
Melee Cone
Damage: High + Minor DoT
Recharge: Moderate
-Def(All), -Dmg, grants Audacity
Tier 4: Flourish
Perform a flourish with your sword,
Recharge: Long
+Dmg(Self), +Acc(Self), grants Audacity
Tier 5: Riposte
A quick thrust to the heart with the sword
Single Target - Melee
Damage: Moderate
Recharge: Moderate
-Def(All), +Def(Melee, Lethal)(Self), grants Audacity
Tier 6: Point Blank Shot
Same animation as Dual Pistol's Executioner's Shot
Single Target - Melee
Damage: Superior
Recharge: Moderate
Mag 2 Knockdown, Mag 2 Stun, requires Audacity
Tier 7: Moulinet
Spinning strike with sword coupled with a few shots from the pistol in a 360 arc
PBAoE
Damage: Moderate + Moderate DoT
Recharge: Moderate
-Def(All), -Dmg
Tier 8: Gut Shot
Elbow in close to the body, as if jamming the muzzle of the pistol into target's belly and firing
Single Target - Close
Damage: Moderate + High DoT
Recharge: Slow
Mag 4 Stun, -Regen, -Dmg, requires Audacity
Tier 9: Execution
Backhanded slash flowing into a heart thrust, withdraw sword and extend arm to fire pistol into target's face
Single Target - Melee
Damage: Extreme
Recharge: Slow
-Def(All), Mag 4 Knockdown, slow wind-up unless Audacity is active
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So this is my first attempt at actually creating a powerset, so please be gentle with feedback, haha.
The idea here is primarily melee with some range and disabling utility thrown in. I also wanted to incorporate a fun mechanic similar but not as limiting as TW's Momentum. As far as the disabling powers, I wanted something practical and useful, whereas some melee debuffs inflict -Speed, which I guess is really only useful for chasing down runners, but otherwise pointless.
What do you think?

I see a lot of commentary about Gambler's Cut being better than Sting of the Wasp in every way, but nobody ever explains WHY it's better.
Once you get past the lower levels where you need the extra attack, does it not make more sense to take the harder-hitting attack power?

You've piqued my interest, although I tend to have a lot on my plate these days. What level of time commitment would you be looking for exactly?
I would set up a Discord server to aid communication and hammer out specifics. That said, I'd like a group to play with regularly, perhaps a few hours, every other night, and a bit on weekends. We're working adults, so obviously I don't expect people to make this their life or job, but I -would- like this group to meet and play regularly.
Especially since I'd like to have specific roles for people. On a small crew, every person is important. The pilot, the mechanic, the enforcer, everybody's got an important job on the ship, so I'd prefer this -not- be a group for an alt that'll get shelved after a few levels.
-
So, I'm wanting to put together an RP VG themed around being space pirates. It's a general concept, yeah, but could be a fun one, I think, with the right crew.
The feel I'm going for is sort of a Serenity/Firefly crew. I'd like to have specific roles for members as well, such as Captain, First Mate, Mechanic/Engineer, Pilot, etc. I would like to keep the crew small, as I don't want it to become one of those VGs that has a bunch of members who are never online. A small, tight-knit crew would be the goal here. I'd like to run regular things together in-game, including weekly TFs, powerleveling, farms, RP arcs in AE in the flavor of piratey stuff like treasure hunts and heists.
Helps to be on Mountain Time in the US, as I'm in Arizona.
