  1. I got the "board transit" instruction while on redside (St. Martial) as a rogue, tried to board in Kings Row. The choice is in the menu, but it never enters the mission map. Instead it dumps me back at the train door after trying to load several times. I did this about 3 times before realizing I needed to go back redside and try a ferry or something else.

  2. I used Mission Transporter for the new mission "Recover Melanie from the Sewers" supposedly in the Rikti War Zone, and I was teleported to the arachnos flyer door in Port Oakes [-672.8 111.5 -713.1].

  3. With all the dying I did around level 32... I also had time to do Provost Marchand (hero/vig). It's a pretty good "putting the band back together / it's not the same anymore " story. I quite liked it! Re: Praetorian heroes.

And as a warshade I didn't have to pause XP at all so far. Just die like a blaster way too much, lol.

  4. Thanks a ton for doing this!

I always did Hollows, Striga and Croatoa on my characters, and then try to do accolades and all the portal corps stuff. But this guide opened my eyes to several new things. Now I'm trying to do everything you recommend for characters I really want to learn how to play. First Ward and Night Ward are definitely worth doing! I just did those on my level 32 warshade . More adventures to come!

How does mini-mode interact with the shapeshifting forms? I imagine it doesn't, but I'd find a bobble headed Dwarf form very pleasing

only the "ghost" / "ethereal" effects work on kheld forms.

  6. No, it absolutely sucks. Think midget, not dwarf. I've suggested a "tiny mode" that keeps all proportions 1/3 while keeping the same bounding/targetting box so it cannot be exploited for any advantage... I guess not enough folks are hating mini mode the way I do. I basically cannot use it.

Does anyone remember a group called boss? Or a chat called the pingus?

As in Bureau of Supernatural (Something? Studies?) B.O.S.S. headed by Myrmydon (or alt spelling thereof)?

I was a member until about 2009. I am pretty sure Myr was on the forums somewhere too, but not interested in getting back into leadership when I asked.

  8. I was Xarah (and various other tall blue alien girls whose name started with X, various "Grannies" and a warshade), and member of B.O.S.S. supergroup for a while.  I miss Lil' Momma and all the other tankers from there.

Now mostly playing TinkerBell on Reunion (and lots of alts), and Purple Pain (baby warshade) on Indom.

If any of you need funds anywhere Tink is worth about 7B. Lemme know! I was giving inf away by spamming but I figure everybody is probably pretty financially set by now. But you can always ask!

  9. Add a simple decision-tree structure to the dialogs in AE allowing branching and looping. It would be pretty simple to implement. First, allow up to 50 dialogs and 10 missions. The player might not need to complete or answer them all to get to the conclusion. Assign unique names as identifiers for each mission and dialog. Let each dialogue choice or mission outcome (fail versus success) proceed to a specific name (another dialog or mission).

I actually wrote an entire web site and database to allow this, but the tie-in was restricted to "go run this AE mission and type in the result code here to proceed". A more natural integration could be built into the game client pretty easily.

    Hello.

I'm returning to CoH after quite a long layoff. How do I recover my in game account name and password?

    From LIVE you cannot.

However... quality of life on Homecoming servers is much better, and there are plenty of generous rich folks to get you the STARTER items that really help you re-learn, refresh your memory, or whatever. There are also really good starting content to help you skip the early game where you only have 2 or 3 attacks and die over and over. Ask for DFB (Death From Below) when you first get on. Personally, I do that then Hollows, or more often do DFB a few times then at 20 start on Striga Isle. Just ask for help! And have fun.

I have a pretty high tolerance for people running non-meta builds and power sets. Most of the standard content in the game can be completed by any combination of players. That said, I had an experience recently that did tick me off. I joined a Kahn TF and we decided to proceed with just 4 players. It was a casual kill most/kill to objectives run set to +1. I wasn't the leader and I didn't examine the other players builds before starting other than noting what ATs we had. It wasn't until the final mission and we were facing Reichsman that I noticed that this one corruptor was dying A LOT. At first I thought he might have been a new player and told him to stay out of melee range. Then someone else noticed that this corruptor had just one power from his primary and maybe two from his secondary. Cleary not optimal. If I had noticed before we started, I wouldn't have agreed to run with 4. Even so, we had managed to get Reichsman down to about 20% health. We were running low on inspirations, but I thought we could probably finish him off. But then another player (not the leader) got into a fight about the corruptor running a troll build and both of them quit the team (I forget who quit first). The corruptor bears some blame for running a troll build, the leader bears some blame for not checking before we started, and the third player bears some blame for getting into fight about it in the middle of and AV fight.

I eschew outright greifing or obtuse behavior, not poor builds or weak skills.

I think if you are forming a team and have ANY expectations, you should state them up front. Otherwise just enjoy the entertainment value of the PUG Life. Just my 2 inf.

I'll admit, one of the reasons I don't team very often (besides just being kinda anti-social) is the fear that I'm going to screw things up for everyone else with my general ineptitude.

Nah! I mostly suck, and people invite me back a lot! Even "entertainment value" is value, even if you are not so great at actually playing.

TL:DW: As the older a MMORPG gets, the more solved it becomes.  The more solved a MMORPG becomes, the more toxic its community gets.  It applies to City of Heroes as well.  The Homecoming community as a whole is more meta-focused and toxic than live was, because the game is 20 years old.  It's just not nearly to the level as other MMORPGs as City of Heroes is a more casual MMORPG.

Exactly. That's why I have quit most others. Secret World end game is basically repeating "nightmare mode" dungeons, and if you don't have mad skills, nobody wants you on their team. And all teams are always 1 tank, 1 healer, and 3 dps. ALWAYS. So it ends up being an impenetrable barrier for those not already uber. If I recall correctly, Tera was similar. One of the best things about CoX is the ability to solve problems in multiple ways, sometimes unexpectedly.

  14. One of the best features of Secret Word (and Legends) was being able to write one's own front-end UI add-ons. Just don't use Flash like they did :)

There are already tons of client-side mods that were done via careful reverse-engineering or "PIGG DIVING", but why not formalize it? Would that be some kind of violation of the NCSoft terms? If not, would you allow a team of folks to work on "custom plugins" API? Having experience with android APIs (and Flash, Java, various ECMA scripts, and all manner of programming), I'd be willing to volunteer or participate in the effort.

And yes, we could have restrictions against combat-related functions if that's what the team wants. I'm thinking more about making active interactions less tedious, like "delete all white salvage", "move all to auction house", "put all into storage", "sell all enhancements" and assorted things like that, instead of repeating keystrokes, button clicks or mouse drags to the point of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Badger is still not updated for Issue 28 Page 1, which includes the name changes. City of Badgers is up to date.

Ok, thanks. So I have them, it's just not registering in Badger because the name is wrong there. I've been trying to volunteer to update Badger, but things have been very slow

  16. I think people have kinda given up on hosting these. They were doing it when the NCSoft news broke, and the wave of returning game veterans tried to revive the old SG model.

Alas, now that base items are all zero cost, there's no need to grind for prestige. And because of that, no need for 100-member SGs anymore. In fact, base storage works a lot better when a base is for "just me and my alts". Travel is a bit different, which is why mine are open to the public for travel -- there is no down side.

Maybe I'll host one just because I can afford it again INF-wise. Where does one announce these things these days? One thing seems consistent with the old days though: only about 10% of the players ever read the forums. And The Calendar and Events feature on the website has been disabled.
