You can add characters who are not the players. When I run City of Heroes AI, I often use it to converse with NPCs.

Blue, with all due respect, it's not a matter of AI engines being used for personal story writing. It's a matter of using whatever the AI spits out to talk to fellow players. And yes, there's been a few instances this has popped up, IN GAME not on an AI client. Edit: I sometimes use AI chat clients too, just because I'm bored out of my mind and had an idea for a story thread and wanted to see how it flows for possibly player interaction, but I don't use what I pick up from the AI chatbots in game. It's just something I use to help me figure out a formulate what works best for the approach I'm wanting to run with.

  2. I would recommend those that DO use it for this purpose to please keep in mind that editing to preference of what you are trying to convey would be highly suggested as well as encouraging learning from the AI's word choices, and understanding what it is spouting out. It doesn't always come up with the most logical path for responses, even with the creative slant amped up on the module scales, but it does provide a bit of definition insight that can help improve your own personal writing skills over time. Just don't use it as a crutch, that's all I have to say on that.

  3. As someone that does use AI for various different purpose I'd like to add to this conversation a few key notes that people are missing with this discussion here.

    1. Using AI to respond to RP posts is like using canned meat for a recipe that requires fresh meat, it's not going to taste the same when the meal is ready, and definitely going to look different as well. If you lack the time and patience to actually formulate posts by hand, or need help with finding a certain word or phrase, fine, use it for that, it's basically a search engine  for that purpose as well. But don't use it to craft responses because honestly, it's not going to incorporate your own sense of creativity involved, it's just going to be a tin-canned version of what you seek to detail or reply with.
    2. Many of the responses here, I'm going to admit, make me cringe at the lack of full comprehension of what Spazzy is trying to state here. REALLY READ IT PLEASE and comprehend what he's trying to explain before you continue further to tear apart this post. His reasoning and breakdown for this is valid as hell, and I respect his willingness to approach this subject from this direction of teaching and why AI in this particular area of game play is not just disrespectful to those that do not use AI for responses, but also towards the authors and book writers of this community that do indeed take the time to write and detail responses in a way that tailors to their characters persona. If my stating this upsets you, perhaps you need to take a step to really read the full context and not get riled up about the subject itself but rather what he's saying in explanation about the usage of AI in this manner of play. There is no spirit or actual emotion drawn from AI responses, even in the creative line of use, so it has no way to determine whether the response it's written FOR YOU is within the sense you are trying to convey or not without explicitly clear definitions, and even then, it still comes out somewhat tin-can in flavoring.
    3. It is a creative art, a hobby, and for some an inspiration for the books and novels they are writing currently. If you do not have time to construct posts and replies on your time playing, then don't, excuse yourself from the scene and let others join instead. It's not up to the person that initiates to push you to write, that's on you completely.

  4. I'm just going to say no. On both counts. Prestige was did away due to the community of players being too small to maintain the upkeep costs that live servers held. (And yes, I played live as well, and I ***hated*** the prestige system.) Subscriptions are not required for the reasoning that this is run by a dedicated group of gamers that love this game and wish to keep it alive as long as possible, and with NCsoft granting limited license, it will remain free, for as long as Homecoming exists. Donations are always a welcome addition if you absolutely feel that money should go towards funding the servers and further development, but subscriptions are not ever going to be required and I do not think that locking the game behind subscription costs, will do any favors to our already small gaming community here.

  5. Basecode: LEYGARDENS-28255

    Global: @Crystal Dragon

    Shard: Everlasting

    Special Considerations:
This base is designed as a hidden part of the Tirikan collective characters background work and story line. There is active construction being done in the central garden proper, but the last room is the real gem of the base itself. (Thanks to @Dacy for all the wonderful creative tips and advice.) Flight is not required, and do take time to look around at the statue work and other decor along the way. ❤️

    Basecode: Wardensgrace-23564

    Global: @Crystal Dragon

    Shard: Everlasting

    Special Considerations:
This is the home base for Quilynn Jen, the Malachite Tirikan member of the collective. She works quite closely with natural elements, and her home reflects this quite openly. Flight is not required to explore the full base and there is a bare bones portal room should connection to other spaces of the world be needed while visiting. This was my first attempt of a natural themed base and was completed roughly three years ago.

    Hi, Boosie, and Welcome Home!

It's always a delight to hear from a new player, and we've had many over 2024.  Allow me to reference a thread and a posting where good starter info can be found.

Posting on chat terms (we use a lot of them in our chats and teammate selections and this should clarify):

A good thread full of information for new players:

I would take an additional moment to caution you in regards to creating characters that look or seem like licensed characters elsewhere:  DON'T.  Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it is a common mistake with new players, even with some old players, and it's always a sore spot with them when the dev team has to "generic" the character.  There's a clear rule not to build a licensed character and it's needed to prevent lawsuits from those who hold the license.  You can, however, create homage character which hold some familiarity to the licensed character, but there's enough change in look, name, and powers that it is clearly separate.

Please do ask for help and information at any time, both in the games (there's a Help Channel in chat) and here on the forums.  We have a wonderful community ready to welcome and assist.

All of above, yes. There's lots of folks on the server willing to lend a hand if you get lost, or debating AT's or power selection, some are a lot more informed than I am. (I tend to stick to just playing whatever flavor of mind bangery I have going on for fun.)

  7. *sulks and waves sadly.* I'm a bit saddened to see you stepping back, Vera, hugs to you man and don't be a stranger to the RP circle of things on Everlasting man. Gonna miss the antic updates on your bio and the laughs we've all shared.

  8. I get the feeling you really don't understand what I'm saying, so let me reiterate.

    • You are on one of the most populated server shards.
    • You complain that you can't find teams, or anything of the such. (Hm, maybe that's a personal issue that needs working on there.)
    • You complain that the smaller servers are still active even with a small population. (Hm, sounds like a difference of preference and play styles collecting there.)
    • You "think" that merging the servers is a solution, except it's not. It's difficult to do because of the infrastructure age and design of the game internal systems itself. But that's not to forget the details on how these server shards have their own particular culture and play style majorities housed.
    • You seem to be a PVP preferential player, as well as PVE content player, so why not do the shard hop to see what the other server populations have to offer instead of staying on a server that clearly isn't meeting your needs? When I said this was a YOU problem, it literally is just that.
    • FORCING a server merger on the populations housed on each of the servers is only going to disrupt, piss off, and uproot players that clearly enjoy the shards they are on.
    • So, maybe you should do the simple job and work on the YOU issue first before proposing something as insane and widespread effecting as a server merger.

    • Lets not.
    • There's already enough players to house on each of the shards.
    • IT IS A YOU PROBLEM.
    • The population of each shard is that way for player reasons. Some like smaller population, some don't.
    • Move to a shard that fits the population you are seeking. /solution

Let me explain this in barebones sense.

Each server shard has it's own culture, it's own preferences of play styles, and uprooting that would only drive players that like their routines and preferences from the game entirely. Forcing a merger would only harm the current population on these shards, and I for one would quit if we end up with a merger on Everlasting. I've seen what harm server mergers, especially FORCED server mergers can do to player populations and I won't stick around to witness that harm happen here. If you are not happy on the server shard you are on, MOVE TO ONE OF THE OTHERS. It saves the developers a bunch of unnecessary work to merge the servers and in result, damaging the player communities already housed on these shards, but also leaves you the FREEDOM to hop shards to find the niche you are looking for. So, I think that touches on the important points that hadn't been brought up thus far.

  9. I'm in my mid 40's, welcome to the community! You'll find lots of different kinds of game play on Everlasting for sure. Roleplayers do tend to gather here as an unofficial roleplaying server but we always love seeing returning players from live! I was often the quiet sort back on live, I'm a bit more vocal these days and try to guide new roleplayers whenever I am able. If you ever see mentions of the Roleplayers Workshop or Welcome Wagons, feel free to drop on by, we share a lot of great tips to help players settling right in and shaking off the rust! 🙂

  10. I don't think it'll be a problem to advertise if you want. Most of the community here actually chips in to help out with the donations every month to make sure that the service stay live. I'm sure that there's a lot of fans that don't even know that the game is back and legally run here. So if you want to boost the awareness of that, that would be great?
