I agree... and for me, that's not only the sad part but a contributory factor to the live games closure.
-
heh OK.. guilty as charged.

It's possible to be both. England is a country. Britain is a collection of countries which includes England, Scotland, Wales and Norther Ireland. It is possible to be British and English, as well as British and Scottish, but not possible to be Welsh and Irish (mixed parentage aside, of course).

If you didn't care, you wouldn't have asked. So, BS. And, again, it's clear that it is, in fact, an unlidded pie, not a tart as I previously attested. It's interesting how you're continuing to skip over that. Honestly, I'd have thought it was prime fodder to bash me with. Is that fruit too low hanging for you?
-
That's not a pie either. It's a biscuit.
-
So you acknowledge it is an exception. You've answered your own question. You're biased because that's what everyone calls it, whether it's an accurate description of what it actually is or not (and as I've already acknowledged, it actually is an accurate description because the criteria that defines it are different to what I thought they were and, for the record, what everyone else thought they were too.)
-
hoo boy, do I ever hear that loud and clear! All of this is fair enough I guess; it's just a difference in preferences. Personally I prefer content in the 30s - that's the real sweet spot for me in terms of game play. In terms of enjoying content via pug, that can of course happen at lots of different levels, but this speed boosted steam roller of death BAU situation we have right now does occasionally get rather tiresome, regardless of level.

in terms of effects, yes. -Res is definitely a good secondary effect for guitar blast and the other powers in the Sonic Blast set could certainly be adapted. I'm not entirely sure I'd be happy with the lined, moving circle effects of Sonic Blast - in my head there'd be a lightning tinge to it or something similar. Of course the other side of that if we're talking about adapting Sonic Blast as a DPS set, is to modify Symphony Control and Sonic Resonance as control and buff sets for Controllers, Defenders, Corruptors and Dominators in a similar vein to incorporate the guitar animations for those as well. -
OK.. so I have looked up on a couple of pastry websites to see what the difference between a pie and a tart actually is, and, rather embarrassingly it is possible to have a lidless pie which very definitely invalidates my definition of it. So I'll take the L and the inevitable ridicule for that one. but.. (and it's a big Kim K sized but) There is a difference between pies and tarts to the extent that they are very definitely fundamentally different things and not subsets of one another. The reason for that is down to what the base is made out of: Alternative take, but the same message: Bring on the "I told you so's" and what ever other derisive comments you feel are appropriate.
-
Hypocrisy at its finest. No surprise there then. Do you need to google that to make sure it's the definition you're happy with?
-
How? All the examples I gave fell in to the criteria that I outlined. Except that one, which proved my point. You might call it a pumpkin pie, but it isn't a pie because it doesn't have a lid, like all the other real pies do. Just because you prefer to call it a pie for, reasons like.. I dunno.. alliteration doesn't mean it is one.. All of the things that are tarts share the same characteristics as the thing you're calling a pie. It's really not that hard to understand if you remove your own biases.

I wasn't suggesting you had. That's literally why I said "For reference" - to indicate a factual base point to ensure that we're both singing from the same song sheet, as the saying goes. Yup.. that suggestion is the fairly common rebuttal to comments like mine and precisely why I explained why I tend not to do it. I've often found that getting from 1 = 5 just by street sweeping in Atlas, and especially that bit to the west of Atlas Plaza that has a large number of Hellions packed together is a faster way to level than messing about standing waiting for people to get their collective asses in gear for a dfb. Then off to KR for radios and a contact. I'll admit the second half of that approach is slower in terms of XP / levelling because of the travel factor... but I'll take that over "no AoEs, Vahzi boss first!" ad nauseum. And that's fair enough and a common rebuttal (again) and why I explained the reasons why I prefer not to do that. Honestly, for me CoH, is a chilled out, brain out way to unwind at the end of a working day. Could I put together a team to run content that I preferred to run? Of course I could. If only I did that, would it make a jot of difference to the kinds of teams that would form at the times I play? Probably not. If everyone adopted my mindset, what would happen - actually pretty much what happens now. A handful of people regularly putting teams together and being largely responsible for the kinds of content the whole community plays, which is largely PI radio missions, DFB, AE farming and a smattering of TFs, mostly Yin, or whatever the weekly TF is. And the point is that the reason for that is nothing to do with the mindset of the people that run the teams, or choose to run the teams, but the way that the game is structured and the preference of people to follow the path of least resistance when it comes to maxing the volume of rewards against minimising the effort or time to achieve them. And you're not concerned by that? A TF that is designed for characters sub level 10 and actually restricts power availability above that and that is your primary choice for sub 35 content? If I've misunderstood what you mean, my apologies, but if not.. holy crap.

From the perspective of the sort of person you're probably trying to "convince" to play more red: * I do play my characters with a "mindset" and that is generally heroic. I want to beat up bad guys, not be one. * The maps and general environment in CoV is dark, dreary and depressing, likely by design. I simply just don't like looking at them. * Story content is very, very good, that I will say, but it's not enough to drag me over for any length of time. I did play a fair bit of villain content (mostly solo) back on live and whilst I did very much enjoy the mission introductions from the contacts (truly some laugh out loud moments in there), what those contacts were actually asking me to do very rarely seemed to involve anything truly villainous - and by that I mean entirely self serving, regardless of collateral or consequences. Conversely (and actually rather ironically), tip missions do have a much better sense of mindset => appropriate action (at least to me). This could even just be an indication of story telling evolution at Paragon Studios, given the order in which each of the faction content was developed and introduced.

I think I'd like a bit more... "theatre" with the guitar blast animations though. -

Agreed, completely. Single Pistol / Whip blaster for an Indy-inspired character! And it's definitely a shame that the whip primary hasn't been extended to it's own set beyond a few MM filler powers. -

This was one of the few things I liked about that-other-superhero-game-that-Cryptic Studios-made-that-shall-not-be-named. It's just a shame that picking up a car and lobbing it at someones head didn't do a whole lot of damage. -

haha.. Imagine if there was enough synergy between guitar blast and TW for the momentum based animations to follow on between powers from both sets and not just TW. -

This is genius. I can also imagine a control set version of this. One of the powers would be a confuse power called "Cake". Confusing, because of course, the cake is a lie. -

Throwing horns would definitely be the Build Up power. -

There must be something in there where the water is interfering with the robots circuitry preventing it from being able to move? Clockwork models, for example, are fairly open with internals not being covered by armour plating, so there's room there for that conceptually, I'd have thought. Heh.. "Fourth Wall Manipulation" might be fun. It's a kinda amalgum between water blast and earth control maybe? Perhaps the same kinds of effects as water, with a more granular power model? I'd have thought they'd do smashing damage too; maybe some lethal depending on the shape of the sand creations. Potentially with colour customisation you could extend that to "hard light", like Green Lantern too. (IP infringements not withstanding of course) -

SteelR4t replied to SteelR4t's topic in General Discussion
true enough.. have you any idea on how the weapon models fit in terms of how the game engine renders them? I mean, would the game code even allow you to throw something that is essentially part of the characters costume, rather than part of its powerset engine? Although I suppose given the title and concept behind this thread, that probably doesn't matter so much. -

I think Shield Melee would be fine.. Ranged Shield Throwing, probably less so. -

love these.. I can already think of alts that I'd roll for the latter two. EB lends itself well to a kinda Cyborg / mobile platform sort of concept. SR is NCR Vet Ranger all over. (already have one that's a Beam Rifle / WP sent, but this would be soo much cooler, if not only for the weapon model options. -

Guitar blast / elec armour sentinel I would play for EVAR. Tier9 nuke would be a PBAoE called "Power Chord" or maybe "Up to Eleven" Power description would simply be: "I did not mean To blow your mind But that s happens to me All the tiiiiiimmme" And now I think about it.. Domis! Earth, Fire or Dark with Guitar Assault that combines the blasts and Guitar melee.. superbly thematic. Any one of those characters that you got someone on deviant art to do a commission for could literally be the cover of a metal album. Glorious. -
