  1. Simply designating a villain schedule on the forums won't get you very far, because the vast majority of the player base doesn't read them.  However, it has also been my observation that the vast majority of players are loathe to take their own initiative - you can generate interest just by providing an activity that they can join.

So, if you want to start a designated villain day, start by running your own villain teams.  When you advertise in LFG, make sure you mention that it's a weekly thing (or whatever timeframe you decide).  It might start out slow, but people will show up.  The most important thing is to break the "nobody plays redside" negative feedback loop by doing it in a way that is highly visible, but you also want a regular schedule so people associate that time with redside activity.

This isn't to discount VileTerror's post about recruiting in global channels, of course.  My point is simply that putting together a regular community event (which is essentially what this is) takes some legwork by someone (or several someones) willing to take the lead.  Picking a day to "ensur[e] high pop" isn't enough.

  2. The original devs certainly weren't going to bring Statesman back to life.  Lore AMA #338:

    Quote

    Q) If City of Heroes came back would you bring back Statesman and Sister Psyche? (@Nyght Blade)
    A) Sean McCann (Dr. Aeon) - Personally, no. I hate it when comic book characters are brought back to life.
    A) Chris Behrens (Baryonyx) - Same, though we did discuss it. My opinion is that there were other, more interesting stories to tell in the context of their death that wouldn’t work if they just came back to life.
    A) John Hegner (Protean) - Death is such a formative part of life. We had so many places we wanted the death of those two iconic characters to take us. Ms. Liberty and Manticore both have these huge gaping wounds in their hearts now, so many possibilities to go with that. We fleshed out a number of ideas as well, and they shook things up something fierce.

Any plans for getting Statesman back would have been finding some sort of replacement instead.  See:  AMA #9, #239, #256, #309.

Anywho, anyone remember that? Could that be a good mechanic for a new class? Like a true glass cannon class, no armor or defense, just a hella damage multiplier and only melee and ranged damage sets for primary and secondary?

The original devs were kicking around the idea for a Striker AT that likely would have worked this way.

No red-side strike forces get a mention? They're all relatively short and none have the unnecessary hunts or zone travel, but what's the worst there? I'd probably vote for Silver Mantis. Just because unless the team is unusually coordinated getting a foothold on that ship of Duray's can be a huge PITA. I haven't done the SF's as often, though, fewer red-side characters and I think I've only gotten a team of enough high-level villains to do Barracuda once.

As a counter point, the sky raider base is super fun as a brute, so much stuff to SMASH.  It's hard to pick a 'worst' SF when they're all pretty good.  They all have their weak points, but not nearly as badly as the TFs that preceded them.

I believe the story of the Primal Well's discovery is covered in the novel Web of Arachnos.

It is, but the novel is from before the Incarnate and Well of the Furies lore was really fleshed out (2005).  Marcus and Stefan drink from the Fountain of Zeus (which is hidden underneath the Well of the Furies, an actual physical well filled with water) and transform into supermen, then they open Pandora's Box to release superpowers to the world, which destroys the cave they found all this stuff in.  The details in the novel are very different than what would later be established as Incarnate lore.

    Quote

"So the secret of the Well of the Furies-" began Stefan.

"Is that it's nothing more than a diversion," finished Marcus.

Also from the book, Billy the Bean was a minor character that was part of Marcus and Stefan's crew.  Here's the scene where he finds Stefan after the destruction of the Well and Fountain:

    Quote

"Stefan?" called out Billy the Bean.  The ex-ambulance driver was in front of the boat, leaning over, peering into the dark sea.  "Stefan?  Is that you?"

A dozen emotions flickered through Stefan's brain.  He had known Billy the Bean for nearly fifteen years, and they had escaped many a tight situation together.  A good man to back you up, the Bean had a way of making you laugh at your mistakes without being insulting.  There was no question, he was one of the finest men Stefan had ever met.  But, at this instant, he was primarily a man blocking the fulfillment of Stefan's dreams.  That could not be tolerated.

"Hey," said Billy, searching the water with a flashlight, "are you-"

Stefan erupted from the water, grabbed the Bean's head with both hands, and pulled him facefirst into the sea.  Billy struggled for an instant, but only an instant.  Stefan twisted his wrists and, without effort, broke the other man's neck.  The Bean was dead before the ripples caused by his plunge into the sea had spread more than a few yards.

Easiest to play once you know how is a bots/ff mastermind.   Summon and upgrade bots.  Put bubbles on everyone.   Leave bots in bodyguard mode and just use your personal attacks.

Just want to second this one (along with a reminder to add Leadership as well).  Masterminds aren't very demanding on reaction time or quick decision making, which are the sort of skills people who are terrible at games are typically lacking.

So who are the unicorns? If you have a character with a Primary/Secondary combination that's listed up there as the only 50 of its kind, you have to tell us, it's the law.

I'm not quite a unicorn, but it looks like I'm the closest we've come so far:

    Blaster

160 Sonic Attack Fire Manipulation 2

Charredcore, Everlasting server.  This is a really strong combo, too.  Been having a lot of fun with it.

I also have a Demon/Traps MM at 50, of which there are only 4.
