Not when it comes to procs. I tried a full procmonster build once on my claws/bio scrapper and found it far less than appealing.

Actually, that's an interesting answer. Honestly, I would have been looking for heavy proc's for spin but not much else.

On the EA side, I'm wondering if ppl keep the tier 9 or try to work around it? I think it's gonna be useful more as a Dull Pain kind of thing than for the Def bonus. You can get yourself near Max HP with it slotted and that's gotta be worth it.

Yea. Don't know by how much though.

Just thought I'd see if anyone had crunched the numbers already cuz I just started one yesterday mostly cuz my new char look demanded some pretty lights.

... Wait. Bill, you didn't have all the answers at the ready before I asked em? 😄

The OP did say he likes to RP an odd character on Radio missions; therefore the additional -res for the TEAM from his attacks makes the TEAM do more damage.

Back on live when sonic/sonic was still new, I'd advertise that I make tank mages out of the team. Not too far from the truth either. With the approximately 50% of resistance you can add to a team and all the -res it really snowballs on a team.

NOTE FOR FUN. On paper the char looks like it will have trouble with endurance, but that's not true. The resistance package leaves everyone on the team taking small amounts of damage and that triggers the defender inherent. It allows for you to blast to your hearts content without seeing your end bar drop dramatically.

Wouldn't it only have a 20% chance to proc each every 10 seconds? It sounds awesome but I doubt its working near that well, IF its working as intended.

Yes, but remember they are already PO'd at you for having a debuff on em with TJ. The added procs (particularly as I had both) meant I was only ever lonely if a tanker used Taunt.

And if you use them before getting your IO's in order you will have some moments where you really want to remove them. 😉

  5. A very good option for Time is Ice blast. It complements Time/ to such a point you will start thinking you are a tanker. I've used one as a tanker on a full team before.

With time, I might suggest you try putting in either dark watcher's dispair or Deflated Ego proc into Time's Juncture. If you use both, you will be able to taunt almost as good as a tank (not if he's actively using the taunt power though.

  6. I had a really good build but a deletion terror attack happened.

I started to rebuild it but only got this far. It's a decent build that could use a touch more work on it.

  7. I have a level 20 something and most of the time you do a lot of arrow shots and then pistol shots . The most annoying time is the Ice Arrow because you can/will pull that one out in the middle of a damage (pistol) chain.

And if I'm remembering right (at work now) you can turn off the draw mechanism from each. Looks a little clippy but will definitely cut down the annoying redraw.

and Psylenz, mine's more of a good cop gone vigilante than Rambo. 🙂

  8. good call on getting EA in there. not that glue arrow is bad but it's not as good as it used to be.

I'd question why you are running so hard for your defensive bonuses when you only have one slot in flash (ah ah) arrow. It's values in game were boosted tremendously compared to what mids shows and it can give you flexibility to pursue more procs or resistance or whatever you want.

Suppressive fire can do a ton of damage if you proc it up. It can take hold and damage procs due to it's transformation to a hold with chem ammo.

Here's my thought experiment version. I was playing with RotP in it so you can ignore that... or use it. 🙂

  9. Doom,

Yeah, I thought that combo would be one of the slowest solo combo's out there. But on a team it would bring so much and the end build would probably be a decent farmer. I could even think about it for boxing... 'cept i don't do that anymore. not enough machine for it. 🙂

    Moon,

My first Sonic res experience was a sonic/sonic. really fun ride as long as i stayed away from sleep mez which used to bring dispersion field completely down.

    Fantastic on teams.

  10. Sonic resonance.

You can get your teammates up to ~50% resistances and a 30% -res in a toggle power that you put on the scrapper or someone. Defender numbers, of course.

You can do all that in 2 clicks every 4 minutes and if you want you can just put yourself on follow for someone on your team.

But for most possible lazy, make it a controller with Ice primary. You can add in AA with the coercive persuasion confuse proc. three proctastic aoe powers (2 from cold and 1 from sonic). your very own pet.

And if you don't feel like dealing with that boss until everything else is gone, just use sonic cage.

Ok, so I put one together real quick. My first draft for mostly passive team toon.

The intangible powers: black hole, sonic cage, detention field no longer have enough mag to detain the towers in the Miss Liberty Task Force. I am not sure at what point in time this changed, but I do remember that it was a valid tactic during LIVE

Oh no. that was a good tactic. Guess I don't tf enough these days

  12. Saw the hate on Black Hole and had to comment.

There are a few instances in which it's an awesome power.

If you leave it single slotted and with only a single TO Acc in it, you can use it in times when the team is getting overrun and it will intang. enough of the enemy to allow your team to thin the rest of the herd.

If the need is real bad, you can always pop your aim to make it hit lots of the enemy and potentially save a team wipe.

It's a great power to have on a lrsf to get rid of a LR power tower for a minute or so.

Lastly, if you are ever on a pvp team event you can pop it at the right time to leave the other side with fewer teammates who have their back.

If it's worth the pick is up to you but it does have some instances of goodness.

Oh and slotting fluffy is a pretty decent place to put a grav anchor: chance for hold. It uses tents and that can put a few more baddies on hold for a few seconds which is always good. Don't add it above acc or tohit debuff, but a decent choice.

For solo tactics, the best I ever found was stealth+Shadow Fall for inviso power. jump over the group you want to hit and let fluffy engage, then fearsome stare and go to town. This will work with only SOs and will keep you very safe against +3 or so.

Last piece of advice is fluffy is pretty good at keeping stuff immobed and locked down for your rain powers so don't wait too long to get him.

  13. DM/Rad and IO for defense.

You will get great damage output on large spawns. Touch of Fear is now aoe and a great control/debuff, get yourself a +end power and lots of damage options to go with very nice amounts of regen and some heal to top you off too.

Actually I have a Rad/DM tank and he does just fine on damage. Tanks get more aoe hits (can hit more per aoe power) and to me that makes up for any up front damage the brute gets.

    • Thanks 1

I have an AR defender with Elec primar, was shooting (ha!) for a steampunk vibe.  It's...not good.  No debuffs to take advantage of defender numbers and low damage combined with lethal damage just makes it feel so awful.  Do not recommend.

On behalf of the defender community, we thank you for trying it out. 🙂

  16. Do:

    /dp works with everything. -dam.

    /ice for slows.

/rad for tier 9 hold to go with your poison trap.

/arrow for ultimate tier 9 recharge so nuke is always up.

/psy as -rech is highly undervalued.

/elec for fun with sapping (Poison trap helps quite a bit).

/water for bouncy fun time... and self heal.

/Fire if you gotta. I got extra dots on everything so more damage.

    Don't:

/dark for you can't hit me... and self heal. 3 cone powers means this is too tricky to be really fun for me.

/Sonic for -res. same 3 cone situation as with dark. limits synergy options.

/BR for some interesting situations in very late game but mine didn't last that long. 🙂

/Energy take too much proc work to make this a kdown instead of a kback char so limits your pbaoe and poison trap.

    um...

/Assault Rifle has anyone ever tried AR as a defender? 🙂

So the answer is obvious. Poison/AR!

  17. No need to regret poison/rad. two large pbaoe hold/nuke level damages for mag 6 fun. Throw in big debuffs and damage you can get with your hold/snipe/other large single target power and all you really need is enough invisibility to pull it all off.

oh and one of the pbaoe holds goes off in 1 second and you can get your recharges to get the nuke down to mid 30 seconds per boom.

Paints a pretty picture to me.

Just to throw another into the mix, Nature can make you into a bit of a powerhouse. Its *big 3* buffs all affect you. So that's 23% resists to everything, a whopping Absorb shield, 82% damage to everything, some regen, a nice End discount and some extra ToHit from those 3 alone. Sprinkle in whichever of the 3 toggles you like from Entangling, Spore Cloud and Lifegiving Spores and you should be pretty well sorted.

You'll still need to build for Def but IOing for defense is standard enough, and then one you do that being able to layer those Resists and Absorb on top makes you very tough.

You made me think about it Carni and I think you can do pretty well without building for defense with Naff. You will be eating mezprotTM Vitamins till you get to Destiny, but I think a Naff/Rad would be pretty self sufficient.

Here's my stab at a build for it without spending much on Defense. Note that air superiority is a hold for air maneuver and tp is the close range tp that were placed recently in game.

Yeah, I actually have a very similar story to Ankhammon's.  Just the other day, I was running TFs with a stream and a few of their friends.  The last one we ended up running was a Synapse.

Fortunately, I had grabbed some P2W amplifiers because 'Ugh, synapse..'.  Anyway, as a challenge, we started it on +3, oh boy..!   The Tanker was a Willpower/ whom was in their high 40's and, as far as I could see, was either on SOs or Generic IOs, from what I could recall looking at their info.  Fortunately, they were a really smart tank and learned quickly just to corner pull and dump mobs onto me.

Soon, we had gotten into a nice pace of him training the mobs onto me half-way across the map as we sat at the near start of the map happily chewing them away.  Once most of the spawn was dead, they just went off and grabbed more.  It was interesting, fun, and different!  Clearly showed off the power of Time's ability to tank with a good build.

Definitely not something I'd be able to do on my Thermal/ Corruptor (Or Defender, if I had one) anytime... ever.

Cool story. And nice build too.

You got Atomic Blast down to 37 second recharge? That gives me ideas.

Might Have to try out that  Poison/Rad I've never thought about.

    Or maybe a Naff/Rad/Psi with damage/hold/confuse toggles. 🙂
