  1. I tried to get into the first one, bought all the DLC's and put about 30 hours into it but it just never grabbed me.  When I realized I was making myself play it I decided to stop.

Might check out the 2nd one but the backlog of games I already don't have time to play is ridiculous.

I've long thought that the tone of far too much of the posting on these forums has left a lot to be desired. As a community we often pat ourselves on the back for our positive virtues but I see far too much evidence to the contrary. I've been taking a break from the game and these forums and that has been partly down to feeling less of a fuzzy sense of community here.

I completely agree with the op, the dogpiling needs to stop. In addition I would love to see the back of /jranger and all similar shorthand for 'your idea sucks and it is beneath me to explain why'. It was banned on the original forums and it should be banned here. If someone posts a bad idea then either have the courtesy to properly explain why or just don't respond at all. The thread will sink without trace on its own.

During my break I've been lurking in a couple of other forums (to do with ttrpgs), which seem to be moderated to a higher standard of community behaviour than this one and the difference is noticeable. There is far less antagonism and an acceptance that different people hold different points of view and that's ok. Whether it is prevented by an automated system or active moderation I don't see any of the snide shorthand posting and they are much better for its absence.

That is all well and good to a degree, but the fact of the matter is that it absolves most of the responsibility of the OP for creating questionable content and puts the responsibility on the devs and the community responding.   In business and most parts of society people don't get catered to that way and it is a slippery slope to get onto.

I'd also like to re-iterate the fact that this community is amazingly patient and if this was any other forum that I follow (be it commerce, sports or politics) shenanigans like that would be dealt with in a much less tolerant way (probably by the moderators).

Personally I don't see much harm in it (and I find it amusing) so I don't get involved in a negative way but I can understand how the forum regulars would roll their eyes at a certain stream of threads that seem to crop up.

  3. Stepping up when no one else is, is admirable.

That being said, there are people that want attention and in some instances don't care if it's positive or negative when they get it.   This forum is among the most cordial I've been on..most of us have been around the block a couple times at this point and I'm honestly surprised (and relieved, of course) it hasn't been less civil.

  4. Blaster is probably your top end AT if you know what you are doing (player skill needed to fully unlock the potential though).

Most of the control-centric AT's start to become less relevant as you IO/Incarnate at 50, although I appreciate the playstyle associated with them and wish the niche for control was more broad in the end-game.

Rest of it is kind of in the middle (certain combinations not-withstanding), in my opinion.

  5. So....a soft control type team?

Probably decently fun while levelling but once everyone hits 50 and starts to IO/Incarnate things will be dying too fast to really make much use of the fear component (keeping the team small might help this).

But if its fun for you I'd do it.  Different strokes for different folks.

  6. Pylons,  soloing TF's,  specific AE challenges.    Off the top of my head.

Impressive feats, certainly.  But not something that I would say the majority of players are interested in or take part in due to  the very specific nature of setting up the attempts.

Having a new mode that will be more accessible (hopefully) will bring more people to the table and we can get a much more broad sense of what players are capable of rather than engineered scenario's that may favor certain AT's over others.   Personally I am hoping to see effectiveness drawn not only from the pool of damage dealers/damage sponges but also from a solid emp that is diligent in keeping CM on the squishies consistently or a sonic that works to keep all of his teammates (when possible) in their bubble to soak some of those orange numbers.

Right now we as a player-base are focused on very specific metrics of success, which is fine,  but I'd like to see that expanded outwards and beyond.

Alternatively, I don't imagine the F1 races are all waiting for a comic book AV (ehem, Whiplash?) to show up for an extra 'challenge', just to make it worth their while.

I don't care if folks feel like it is a waste of time to play while debuffed (I'm not running Synapse at +4 every week), I simply think it is disingenuous to imply that the current game can't be made more challenging without asking players to change their builds.

Rewards can be had from any content. Difficulty can be altered via different mechanisms. These are completely separate issues.

In one sense you are correct.

In the other, changes are already coming so it is a bit of a moot point as it stands right now.  The only question is 'when' are these changes coming.

  8. Trying to think of a corrupter primary that would benefit a secondary as much as Fire or Ice would.

I know there are builds that are 'almost as good' but i'm wondering if the community has any experience with combinations that perform at or beyond that level in a synergistic sense.   Want to make a new corrupter but am loathe to use those sets any more than I already have both on Live and Homecoming.

I thank the community for its time and responses.

Not MMOs, but sports are played in a variety of different weather conditions, on different surfaces and teams often play with rosters at less than 100%. Wins still count as Wins, Losses still count as losses.

    Interesting analogy.

However, I do not recall a group like say....The F1 Circuit, waiting until a course was foggy and rainy before starting a race because there were too many good drivers on the track.

I understand the point you are trying to get across but to expect players to artificially create hoops to jump through to enjoy a game is not particularly strong design and something I am personally pleased that they are moving to correct.  Bravo to our current development team for recognizing that fact.

  10. Hopefully hard mode will allow 8 person mobs to have a bit of juice left after a Fire/Em blaster drops their full rotation on them.  In many instances it seems like the rest of the team is relegated to clean up duty after a half-decent blaster joins the squad.

  11. Excited for the new content and new ways to challenge the playerbase.

Had the sinking feeling of spinning tires for the last year or so and it appears this was also on the devs minds as well.  There will always be elements of any community that are hesitant to shake up the status quo but all progress requires change and adaptation and i'd say this game is due for a dose of both.   For me personally that is a big thumbs up...now for the waiting.

  12. The crux of the 'problem' lies more with the game itself than it does the individual players.

Most of the content is literally so easy at 50 that you can do a good chunk of it (with some notable exceptions) with 2-3 skilled players and not break a sweat.  The game did not really compensate for incarnate level power before the servers went down and it shows now that the game is back operational.

Don't really see a solution to this either as the last time we got new content it was in the levelling range and not endgame.  At the rate of new content being introduced we are looking at 3-5 years of adding endgame missions that could possibly challenge those that seek such things.

There are work-arounds for this such as adding your own personal rules to playing and setting disadvantages for the team but I find the vast majority of people are not interested in those options.  So we go 'round and 'round as we join the next ITF stompfest on poor Romulus.

  13. Every team I join I look at differently.

Some are mad dashes to the end and others are kill everything in sight.  I don't have a problem with either and if the star wants to "wait until everyone enters" that's what I do.  Not a big issue.  If I want to do something a certain way I just start my own team and let everyone know the parameters before we start.  Mostly though I don't care because at 50 judgements render most 8 person content trivial anyways.

  14. Just fire while jumping backwards and animating your attack.  You will land out of range while your own attack hits like a homing missile.  You can hop in and out with combat jumping in this manner and avoid the lion's share of damage in most regular encounters.  Also handy for getting quickly in and out of melee.

Takes some practice but its pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
