I would highly recommend completely ignoring in-game Detailed Info for powers and instead using City of Data.   The in-game window works for simple powers but anything with formulas or special tags that govern when and how effects apply tend to be butchered by the in-game parser.

Gotcha, good to know! I haven't used CoD before, just took a look at it now and it's amazing. I'll definitely be spending some time sifting through it.

  2. I'm playing a Staff Fighting / Regeneration Scrapper. I noticed that the details for every power so far say something about Fiery Embrace, like extra damage "Only with Fiery Embrace", etc.

Fiery Embrace is a power from the Fire Aura defense secondary I believe (haven't played it). It seems this extra information is showing up regardless of the secondary actually being used.

Screenshot shown is from  Serpent's Reach. It also seems incorrect... it says 80% chance of knockdown only when using Fiery Embrace, but I'm pretty sure that chance to KD always applies.

If a confused enemy does 50% of an enemy's HP, I get 80% of that enemy's XP value. If they do almost all the work and do 90% of the HP value, I still get 30% of the exp value. To quote a famous businessman; "I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face."

Thanks for this (and thanks everyone else who said the same thing in a different way). I never realized that it was a curve like this. Time to worry less and confuse more!

The problem is that the confused enemy is still of a different faction than the player.  You'd have to create some mechanism by which they temporarily become an ally while confused - more of a charm power than a confused one.  IIRC, dealing like at least 10% of the damage will still net you the XP.

Ahh... that makes sense. I hadn't considered that it might be a technical reason 😬

  5. I’m curious what people would think about allowing experience gain from confusion powers. Currently, if you confuse an enemy, and he kills another enemy, you get zero experience. I find this a real bummer, and avoid using confuse powers (or even taking them) because of it. I almost never see them used by other players either.

what’s the reasoning behind confuse nullifying XP gain? It costs you a power pick and slots, you use it on enemies, it kills them. Killing enemies via confuse is certainly not more effective than using an attack power… it would take FOREVER to clear mobs using only confuse powers. No one is gonna be running around farming via World of Confusion 😂

So my thought here is to add the option for minimal FX on all powers in the game, or at least the particle based ones.
As an example something like radiation in reality can't really be seen, and there could be any in game reason as to why a player may just want to hide their power effects.

Thank you for hearing me out

I super love this idea. I’m about to reroll a /rad armor scrapper because I hate how the effects look.

Also, on rezzing they gain hp proportionally to the number of people in range of their death end drain, so at the very least try not to clump around a low hp Super Stunner.

Wow... this explains SO MUCH about why our Yin run lastnight took so long XD

I had no idea about this! Super good to know.

Ah..jousting.  I remember back on Liberty when @Nemu taught me about jousting. I practiced on skulls in Perez Park with Fire Sword Circle until I figured it out. It was awesome. I recommend everyone learn this tactic just for kicks and grins if nothing else.

Seriously, it's so useful! I use it with ranged attacks too, so I can be out of their range or behind an obstacle by the time my attack registers.

War Mace? It has powers named Shatter and Jawbreaker (more likely skull crusher).

Or Battle Axe power Cleave, description is something like "You attempt to split your opponent in half with this massive attack"

edit: now that I think of it, the first Battle Axe power is literally called "Beheader"

And the press/release bind option allows instant TP with the two-stage powers:

I also LOVE this. The combo with activating flight (Hover in my case) is amazing! Incredibly useful for my defender who sometimes needs to get the hell out of Dodge and support from a safer distance.

The double click would be useful if I werent playin on my laptop most of the time, and in no position to set up a mouse. Double tapping the trackpad happens on accident more often than I'd like

I feel your pain, I've played using just the trackpad a few times. I could see it working well with the right macro and keybind setup to minimize mouse use... but I do have room for a wireless mouse so I got one 😅

  11. So as many of you know there's a bug for one mission in the Imperious Task Force. If you use Team Teleport to get there you have a chance to end up glitched underneath the map, floating (or falling) around in a half-rendered area and unable to get back to the normal level until a teammate teleports you back up.

Instead of fixing this bug, I propose simply putting an exploration badge somewhere down there in the below area. Chime in with your best ideas for a name for this new badge! Here's a few of my favorites:

    "What Lies Beneath"

    "Mystified by Technology"

"Too Lazy to Run 500 Yards"

I don't trust any player base to make such design choices as a general rule.

100%. I read a great article from a game dev once, discussing how game design is often counter-intuitive in terms of what makes games fun and engaging, replayable, etc. Can't find the article for the life of me now, but the jist was that "if you give players exactly what they say they want you'll have a dead game on your hands." A big challenge of game dev is learning to read between the lines of player feedback... and sometimes knowing which loud voices to tune out. Satisfied players rarely make time to provide feedback because they're having too much fun playing the game instead.

I think the HC devs are doing much better than the Live devs ever did.

Overall I agree, they're doing an incredible job. I personally miss when the game was more challenging and punishing... but that's just a personal preference and I can still play plenty of challenging/punishing content (I just have to put more effort into finding it which is fine).

Honestly, I think my biggest gripe is that all the costume stuff is unlocked by default from level 1 now. I really liked when capes and auras meant that you put in the effort to level up AND do the unlock missions. When you saw someone fully tricked out with rare costume pieces you knew they EARNED that shit. Now it seems silly to see someone with a fully decked out supreme costume, but they're brawling Hellions in Atlas Park. I remember on live it took me so much damn effort to unlock the Vanguard Redding Rifle and Rularuu bow for my blaster, and feeling so cool once I had them, and people sending me messages "OMG where did you get that bow?!"  To be fair, I think it was a good idea for HC to unlock all the costume stuff that was previously gated behind veteran rewards since "months of paid membership" is a thing of the past. But I still really like the idea of costume-related parts being locked behind achievements or tied to badges. I'd love to see some new costume pieces that are unlocked by

.... but hey, if that's my biggest complaint, I'd say the HC team is doing an incredible job. They seem to understand that the community is a HUGE part of what makes this game so incredible, and you can't have a community without population and stability. And as others have said, some people may be complaining but they're still logging in to play here instead of on those "cool" other servers.

It was so damn scary, people would literally use Hover to get across the entire map to get to their mission location than run the distance, it was a nightmare! I', sure you remember!  😄

I totally did that a few times XD

And there was no medical transporter in zone, so death often meant running all the way back from Atlas Park...

The sheer amount of debt I collected in the Hollows would haunt me for many levels after 😅

If you arents calculating everything manually in a spreadsheet, you arents trying!

You can use Mids on Mac, I have it set up on mine. This is the guide video I used

EDIT: I finished reading the thread and saw a few other people already suggested using it on Mac, derp.

I also feel I should also admit it's much more complicated to get it set up on Mac, and YMMV on it actually working. Mine worked perfectly following my linked video but it took forever, I left one part of the install running overnight because it took so long.

If that happened a GM had to reset the zone manually or it was no more Hami raids until they reset the servers.

Damn, player defeat was even consequential for the devs XD

Tangent, but... are Hami raids just stupidly easy now? I joined one in the Abyss tonight, and once we started it was over in less than a minute. I think I got three hits in. The one I did on live was in the Hive, I'm not sure if there's any difference between the two location... it was kinda disappointing to show up expecting a challenge and instead get a handout Hami-O.

The yellow mito bloom was a favorite of mine, when it happened, you knew it was all over. A yellow mito for every player in the zone. Whammy!

I only did one Hami raid on live and this is how it ended. I still have a screenshot of the huge pile of hero corpses...

Hell, one of my Stalkers I had someone ask me if he was part tank because NOTHING hit him.

I think this is the part of it that frustrates me the most. Not your stalker, that is... but once players get all kitted out it's like team roles cease to exist. When one of the "steamroll everything" players joins, it doesn't matter what AT they are, stalker, blaster, troller, they still tank better than actual tank ATs (played by casual players).

Not to say this is a bad thing... players put in a ton of time and inf to be able to do that, and admittedly it's pretty badass. I think it's more the lack of team mentality some of these players have when exemplaring down to lowbie teams. If a vet level player is running a lowbie TF "speed for accolade" or whatever, then sure, I'll join and expect a steamroll. But if an actual lowbie player is running a normal TF and I join with my 50 because I need the badge (or just want to), I'll do my best to fit into the team dynamic and support rather than trying to flex on all the noobs.

(not trying to say you do that, your post just gave me the idea where to start my thought)

I've had the same woes as OP and ultimately my solution was to run my own teams and be selective about how I advertise in LFG, and the steamroll types either don't join or they get bored and leave. "15 minute break to fiddle with enhancements" tends to make them quit immediately while more casual players actually appreciate the downtime instead of madly rushing from mission to mission.

Now I am guilty of using my incarnates on lower level content, but when I do join a team I focus on helping the team not myself.

This too! I actually just respec'd my PB to take only support powers at lower levels (heal, TP, grant invis, etc) so that the lower I exemp, the more "support only" I become. Then at higher levels I have all my shiny hard-hitting powers.

@Maestro Mavius I also play on Exelsior and would totally team up with you sometime. I've only got one 50 and the rest of my toons are scattered all over the place. My global is @Streets 🙂

One player falling in battle can cause a domino effect to the rest of the team.

For real! Especially if that one player fell because they drew too much aggro... now all those enemies will pick a new target.

Think about it, originally, after level 7, you started getting Debt (and a lot of it) for a defeat. You had to pay all of the debt before you could start earning XP again. Unless you had a Defender or Controller who had a Revive power, you were left to whatever inspirations you had in your tray. There were no silly combining inspirations to rez. If you didn't have one or if your team mates didn't have one, it was off to the hospital you went. There was a real risk to getting killed in those days and it made fighting much more intense for me. Now, if I see my health bar turn red, I don't even care, I just keep fighting till I fall. Lame.

100% agree. I miss when the game was less forgiving for defeats. Now, even when I die a whole bunch, I feel like I barely even notice that I have debt and then it's gone. Man, back in the day I remember being buried in debt for entire LEVELS to the point it felt like part of the identity of some of my more experimental toons XD

  19. Oh man, my first toon on live I screwed up so bad. I like to "figure it out as I go" rather than looking up guides... so I made so many unfortunate choices. For example, I six-slotted sprint figuring that must be how people were super-speeding about. This was a MA/SR scrapper too, so not a forgiving build to screw up.

By the time I got to 24 I desperately needed a respec, back then doing the Terra Volta trial was the only way to get one (that I knew of at the time anyway). I ended up on a team with 7 other people who also desperately needed a respec (and had equally bad builds). It took us so many tries to get that damn trial completed but man oh man did that respec after feel good!
