eknudson
Your blaster is dark blast/what? I don't follow what your secondary is.
stargal
Apologies, bit of a newbie, dark blast and energy manipulation.
eknudson
You can solo with dark/energy and definitely team but it's not an ideal farm build. Dark does good but not great damage with a very handy secondary effect. You'll have to make some decisions on dark/energy since dark is a primarily ranged set (except the nuke) with a hold, and energy is a primarily melee set (except boost range) with stuns so your primary and secondary have some issues with lack of synergy you'll have to decide how you want to handle. Based on taking more damage than you'd like, I'd try to stay more at range. You may want to take hover and fly out of melee range much of the time, possibly taking one of the energy melee attacks because they do hit really hard-- you could take energy punch since it animates quickly, does good damage, and then use power thrust to get whatever got too close flying far away. Umbral Torrent is an interesting power that I found went from frustrating to use to indispensable after slotting the sudden acceleration kb to kd IO. Knocking everything down and then layering other powers with -ToHit before they can stand up makes my blaster much more survivable. Between life drain and energize, and then all the -ToHit in dark blast if things can't kill you quickly they'll have a hard time killing you at all. The knockdown in umbral torrent is handy there. What level are you and what kind of budget?
stargal
Hi, Thanks for taking time to help, they are some really useful suggestion, I'm currently at lv50, with a budget of about 95,000,000.
eknudson
OK, then you have all your powers available and you have a fair amount of cash to work with-- not enough for "purple" or blaster archetype sets, but enough to get some very useful tools. I just put together a quick sample build-- it has a 2nd immob and a 2nd hold so you can hold or immobilize bosses. Ranged defense is only about 40%, but one hit of any of your dark blast powers and the target will have its ToHit floored and hardly anything in a normal non-incarnate mission will hit you from range very often. Smashing/Lethal/Energy defense are very close or just beyond the soft cap. I left tenebrous tentacles empty because you could slot the new Artillery set in there for a lot of ranged defense but it's not available in the tool yet. Replace hover and fly with combat jumping and super jump if that's what you prefer-- or combat jumping and super speed, which would stack with stealth in sprint for invisibility equivalent. I wouldn't just build this, it's nothing fancy and not optimized, but you definitely could build this within your budget. http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/download.php?uc=1452&c=651&a=1302&f=HEX&dc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evel 1: Dark Blast Thn-Acc/Dmg:50(A), Thn-Dmg/EndRdx:50(3), Thn-Dmg/Rchg:50(5), Thn-Acc/Dmg/Rchg:50(11), Thn-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:50(34), Thn-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:50(43) Level 1: Power Thrust Acc-I:50(A) Level 2: Gloom Thn-Acc/Dmg:50(A), Thn-Dmg/EndRdx:50(3), Thn-Dmg/Rchg:50(5), Thn-Acc/Dmg/Rchg:50(11), Thn-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:50(34), Thn-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:50(48) Level 4: Build Up RechRdx-I:50(A), RechRdx-I:50(7) Level 6: Aim RechRdx-I:50(A), RechRdx-I:50(7) Level 8: Moonbeam StnoftheM-Acc/Dmg:50(A), StnoftheM-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:50(9), StnoftheM-Dmg/EndRdx:50(9), Thn-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:50(15), Thn-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:50(45) Level 10: Hover Krm-ResKB:30(A), LucoftheG-Def/Rchg+:50(37) Level 12: Tenebrous Tentacles Empty(A), Empty(13), Empty(13), Empty(15), Empty(36), Empty(36) Level 14: Fly Flight-I:50(A) Level 16: Energize DctWnd-Heal/Rchg:50(A), DctWnd-Heal/EndRdx/Rchg:50(19), DctWnd-Heal:50(36), HrmHln-Heal/Rchg:40(43) Level 18: Abyssal Gaze Thn-Acc/Dmg:50(A), Thn-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:50(19), Thn-Acc/Dmg/Rchg:50(21), Thn-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:50(23), MlsFur-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:35(40) Level 20: Umbral Torrent PstBls-Acc/Dmg:50(A), PstBls-Dmg/EndRdx:50(21), PstBls-Dmg/Rchg:50(23), PstBls-Dmg/Rng:50(25), PstBls-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:50(29), SuddAcc--KB/+KD:50(43) Level 22: Boxing Empty(A) Level 24: Hasten RechRdx-I:50(A), RechRdx-I:50(25) Level 26: Life Drain Dvs-Acc/Dmg:50(A), Dvs-Dmg/EndRdx:50(27), Dvs-Dmg/Rchg:50(27), Dvs-Acc/Dmg/Rchg:50(29), Dvs-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:50(34), Heal-I:50(37) Level 28: Power Boost RechRdx-I:50(A) Level 30: Tough TtnCtn-ResDam/EndRdx:50(A), TtnCtn-ResDam:50(31), TtnCtn-ResDam/EndRdx/Rchg:50(31), TtnCtn-ResDam/Rchg:50(31), StdPrt-ResDam/Def+:30(48) Level 32: Blackstar Mlt-Acc/Dmg:50(A), Mlt-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:50(33), Mlt-Dmg/EndRdx:50(33), Mlt-Dmg/Rchg:50(33) Level 35: Boost Range RechRdx-I:50(A) Level 38: Weave RedFrt-Def/EndRdx:50(A), RedFrt-Def/Rchg:50(39), RedFrt-EndRdx/Rchg:50(39), RedFrt-Def/EndRdx/Rchg:50(39), RedFrt-Def:50(40), RedFrt-EndRdx:50(40) Level 41: Scorpion Shield Srn-Def:40(A), Srn-Def/EndRdx:40(42), Srn-Def/EndRdx/Rchg:40(42), Srn-Def/Rchg:40(42) Level 44: Maneuvers RedFrt-Def/EndRdx:50(A), RedFrt-Def/Rchg:50(45), RedFrt-EndRdx/Rchg:50(45), RedFrt-Def/EndRdx/Rchg:50(46), RedFrt-Def:50(46), RedFrt-EndRdx:50(46) Level 47: Web Envelope Acc-I:50(A), EnfOpr-Acc/Immob:50(48) Level 49: Web Cocoon EssofCrr-Acc/Rchg:50(A), EssofCrr-Acc/Hold:50(50), EssofCrr-Acc/Hold/Rchg:50(50), EssofCrr-Hold/Rng:50(50) Level 1: Sprint Clr-Stlth:50(A) Level 2: Health Pnc-Heal/+End:50(A), NmnCnv-Regen/Rcvry+:50(37) Level 2: Hurdle Empty(A) Level 2: Stamina EndMod-I:50(A), PrfShf-EndMod:50(17), PrfShf-End%:50(17)
stargal
That's exactly the kind of build I was looking for, I'm aware the Blasters are never going to be as robust as certain other architypes, buts its defiantly something to work with. Really apricate all your help, time and effort.
eknudson
One mistake-- I had power boost toggled on for testing and that impacted the defense levels. Defense isn't quite that high normally. You'll need two dark blast hits to floor an enemy ToHit (or one hit with Power Boost running).
stargal
No problem, I haven't respec as yet, so I will add that into your build. Again thanks so much for your help, ill give some feedback as soon as I've tried it out.
Nemu
The combination is never going to be decent at farming so let's focus on regular content instead. If you want to stay at range and hover blast pick a resist shield and build for ranged defense. As long as you are committed to staying in range that is all you need. Even if you don't plan on getting into melee the melee attacks are good mules for range defense and HP bonuses and I highly recommend you mule one or two just for that. You don't need to slot stamina or any of the recovery uniques, as long as energize is up you won't ever have end issues. Here is what a budget build within your means might look like. tidge
I have a lvl 50 Dark/Time. I wouldn't use him as a farmer (although with enough investment, many different toons can play farm maps) but I can offer one piece of advice on the build that may be applicable, as I find it useful in regular content. I notice that these builds are quite skimpy on slots for Build Up (Time has Chronos as its build up, so mileage may vary). I've taken to 6-slotting powers like Build Up with Gaussian's Synchronized Fire Control and have that be the power that is set on auto. The set bonuses synergize well with Blasters, and on builds with relatively high recharge you have a frequent and reliable %Build Up proc firing to boost damage further. The set isn't particularly expensive either, although it won't scale to the lowest content it will still work over a very large range of levels. On the Dark/Time build (again, with Chronos), I passed on taking Aim until lvl 47. Perhaps heretical, but I wanted to be spamming attacks rather than clicking the 'boost' buttons and so delaying the second on-demand boost until 45+ content seemed reasonable. If the intent is only to play high level content I suppose it doesn't really matter when you take it. On nemu's build above, I question the slotting of Rune of Protection. Even on high-recharge builds, the power is unlikely to be available more frequently than every 2.5 minutes. The choice of 3 Titanium Coatings and a non-global Aegis doesn't appear to me to be a good use of slots. I understand that this is supposed to be a 'budget' build, but if the player intends to farm, the slots are probably better used somewhere else where an eventual Shield Wall or Glad Armor could go for more benefit. Thanks for sharing the builds. I haven't chases Defense bonuses so I like to see the compromises others make.

You use them when you need them, right before you engage a mob for the alpha strike or when Paragon Protectors use MOG for example. I'd also take both relatively early if you are not being PLed and plan to exemp down often to do lowbie content. They are game changers at lower levels when everyone else is struggling with efficient end usage because their accuracy is crap. I have fond memories of my level 8 elec/energy blaster going to hollows and two shotting clumps of 8+ outcasts with a build up or aim ball lightning + short circuit. Without build up or aim? It would take me magnitudes more time and debt to accomplish that at that level. With energy manip you'll want energize on auto as that will solve your end issues completely. The heal is incidental and with dark you have another heal anyway if you need some thing more on demand. The 3 slots in rune with titainium coating is for the HP bonus and the energy/neg eng resist. The last aegis is to top off the recharge. It's a nice panic button that's also a free breakfree but if you don't want to invest in getting it to recharge faster you can absolutely dump those slots in build up/aim for more bang for the buck. You use them when you need them, right before you engage a mob for the alpha strike or when Paragon Protectors use MOG for example. I understand the logic, but I disagree that it is ill-advised. Once I'm in combat, I am getting a significant damage (and toHit) boost every 20 seconds.... which is pretty much 'on demand'. If I'm somewhere in my attack chain when I want more, I have the other option (in my case, Aim) or Red inspirations. Like I said, I don't play on farm maps but I run x8 content at lvl 50... and to clear maps I want as much DPS and I am less concerned about specifically targeting bosses (especially at lower levels like in the Hollows) an moments of opportunity. I assume that the OP's mention of farming wasn't focused on boss-hunting in Grendel's Gulch. For the record, once I am engaged I am not waiting for Sniper Shots on Moonbeam either. About Rune of Protection: I think a better slotting for a 'panic button' power would simply be two slots of lvl 50(+5) recharge. I think the extra HP is only on the order of about 20, and the resistance from the set is on the order of 2%. I think looking to fit in a Preventative Medicine Absorb proc or an Unbreakable Guard +HP (7.5% vs. 1.5%) or a Reactive Defenses Scaling Damage Resistance would be better choices for the slots and offer more utility. I know this is supposed to be a 'budget' build, but those three combined should cost less on the AH than a single LotG Def/Global recharge. I offer apologies if I'm sounding too min-max; my own build has a few particularly non-max choices made for concept reasons!
Nemu
I'm just imagining the times when you are traveling from mob to mob and BU fires during travel and expires before you reach the next mob but if it works for you I'm not going to stop you, not that I can anyways 😁 For anything/eng I still recommend setting energize on auto because it's your endurance management tool, if you forget to fire it off you will notice the difference in how fast your blue bar drops very quickly. Regarding min/maxing, I'm trying to build something within the OPs means and hence I skipped most of the uniques. You'll notice I even omitted the gladiators armor defense unique. depending on how impatient you are you might end up paying 1.5-2 mil per cheap IO and those add up. Of all the IOS the LoTG 7.5, steadfast unique, Numina Unique, and the Basilisk Gaze IOs are going to be the most costly. I don't disagree on your take on rune of protection, you can go either way and squeeze out a little more set bonuses or be practical and focus on enhancing your bread and butter powers like BU and Aim more. There is always room for improvement, but this should serve as an affordable decent starter build that enables the OP to work up to the dream build. reib
Why dark blast dont be good for damage? Can slot tons of procs on almost any Power. Can put 1 hami acc/dmg and 5 procs on almost every Attack. Put hasten in perma and ABSOLUTELY not AIM or build up. They are buffs Who you Need when you Need to do more damage or have more accuracy, no sense to have It in auto. Powers with inherently short recharge times won't proc that often. Sometimes you just want the slot that might go to a proc to go somewhere else. I like procs, but attention must be paid to them. A proc on a T1/T2 power that doesn't work below level 30 is not always a good choice. I understand that NOBODY likes my use of Chronos on auto. It is firing every 22 seconds (or less) giving me 10 seconds of the boost plus the build-up proc firing (if not all the time it is at least 5-out-of-6 times... everytime I look for the little mauve fist I see it). I want extra damage ALL THE TIME, and I am settling for getting it HALF THE TIME rather than just SOME OF THE TIME. If heaven forbid I WANT THE EXTRA DAMAGE but for some reason I'm not in the heat of battle ALREADY, I'll wait for it... probably because the extra wait is also now going to give me the Sniper's Shot bonus, because I WANT THE EXTRA DAMAGE. I can always delay the auto-firing by having another attack queued. You don't have to play my way. Hasten is already relatively deep-perma on my build, it is ready for a click long before it is going to expire.
