Best AT for Battle Axe/Shield Defense?

I know Battle Axe has it's issues, but if you were going to build a themed character on Battle Axe and Shield Defense, would it be Tanker, Brute, Stalker, or Scrapper, and why?

Well, stalkers don't get battle axe so that narrows the field! In terms of pure mechanics shield is better on a scrapper or a tank than a brute (+dam acting on higher melee modifier rather than getting drowned out by fury). Tanks are really very tough with shield but it is also a great set on scrappers where you still get a taunt aura and it's simple enough to hit softcaps to all positions. I'd go scrapper I think.

Heh, Stalker is the one AT I didn't actually check the power sets for as it's not one I play often.  Makes sense though; a large axe isn't the stealthiest of weapons! ;)

Thanks for the tips!  I'd been thinking Brute, but that's good to know about shield being better on Tanker/Scrapper.  I do a lot of solo play, and I find Tankers a bit slow for that, so Scrapper makes sense.
