Ilamia
This is the first time I have tried a tanker so I was hoping to get some advice about the build I am going to run. I am not sure if I'm missing anything obvious, or if I am missing abilities that would be good for a novice tanker that a experienced tanker may not need. I'll probably put off picking out incarnates until I have a better idea of what I'm missing. Unless some are just staples of the AT. I'm mostly wondering about the following. Do I need to place taunt I/Os into against all odds? Is it OK to skip eagle claws & darkest night? Have I over-slotted Health/Stamina? And if the order I have taken the powers will be OK for doing low level content later? Thanks for any help I can get, I appreciate it. Edit: Updated build with some of the suggestions worked in. tellania
For some reason, I cant get mid's to work with the datalinks (it crashes). Can you post the data chunk as well as the datalink? I make a few rough suggestions just from a casual glance: 1. MOve kismet %tohit from combat jumping (level 49) to Deflection (level 1). Help you more at lower levels, and if you exempt/flashback to lower level arcs. 2. Change Deflection LucoftheG-Def/Rchg to LucoftheG-Def/EndRed (save some extra endurance). 3. True Grit, move Prv-Absorb%(31) to Prv-Heal/Rchg(29), for better +hp bonus. Put the Prv-Absorb% into health (yes, need to free a slot, cant see where offhand; maybe Deflection, remove the Luck of the Gambler Def/Rech? Hard to tell without being able to see the full build). If you are, at least, 45% to melee/Ranged/Aoe defense, then working on resistance (I can see some +regen bonuses, which are good, but not at expense of resistance). I assume you are, with martial arts adding some nice +def
Hjarki
My thoughts: You might consider Brute instead of Tanker. My line of thinking is that there are two reasons to play a Tanker. The first is to be as ridiculously unkillable as a CoH character can get. The second is because you're exploiting some specific benefits of being a Tanker. I would not consider Shield/MA to match either of these criteria. On the other hand, MA/Shield as a Brute is a beast. The standard single target rotation for MA would be Storm Kick/Cobra Strike/Storm Kick/Crippling Axe Kick. You're going to lose a lot of damage tossing Thunder Kick into the mix (although I understand the temptation to not simply waste the power pick - a problem you wouldn't have if you follow my previous advice :). You are far too concerned about resists and not concerned nearly enough about factors like recharge. I'd strip all those toggles down to the bare minimum to ED their resist/defense and use purples in your offensive powers to boost your resist so you won't need Hasten. As a side benefit, this allows you to 6-slot purples for Toxic/Psi resist (the ones that might potentially penetrate your positional defenses). There's absolutely nothing wrong with a Shield Tanker who only has 30% F/C/E/N Resist. If you're going to take Gloom, you really should make room for Darkest Night. While MA doesn't need Gloom for a decent rotation (and, arguably, can't use it very well), Darkest Night is fantastic for the fights where you just need to be a bit tougher. You also might consider Obliteration. Aside from a great place to mule Ragnarok, it will seamlessly increase your AE dps. 1
Ilamia
I moved some things around. I'm still on the fence about taking the AOE taunt. I don't know how much millage I will get out of it. I have put in Darkest night. I had no idea the damage de-buff was so high. I have thoroughly enjoyed the tanker so far. After I get him squared away I will probably roll the combo on a brute to see how it compares. The build is still kind of a work in progress. I'm just short of hitting 40 so I still have some time to get it figured out. Thanks for the help. I put in most of the suggestions from Hjarki & tellania. It looks a lot better now. Are the Blistering Cold & Superior Avalanche resists not worth as much? Ilamia
Sorry for the double post I was expecting my rotation to be Storm Kick', 'Gloom', 'Storm Kick', 'Crippling Axe Kick' I got my information off of this post. Hjarki
Gloom is a valid choice for that purpose - I saw you fully slotted Thunder Kick and assumed you were planning on using it.
Ilamia
I was planning on using Thunder Kick but I just updated the build and un-slotted it. I am a bit worried about exemplaring down though. In the empty power slot I have a 49 I'll either put in combat jump to be able to hit incarnate defense cap and to slot my last LOTG. I may possibly throw in warriors provocation and jostle around some powers so I can pick it up at a lower level. I guess it depends on if I find myself doing more low or high level content. I'm not sure how successful I can be doing low level stuff with this character. I might have to put some slots in Thunder Kick just to have some sort of attack chain at low levels. I kind of wish I could get some more toxic/psi out of the build but I can bring myself to drop the FF in dragons tail. Thanks again for the advice. I'll probably come back and post what I end up using as my final build after I get to put it through its paces for awhile. Ilamia
I ended up not having anywhere near the haste for the - Martial Arts (4) 62.45 ['Storm Kick', 'Gloom', 'Storm Kick', 'Crippling Axe Kick'] - attack chain. I ended up changing my build around and moving over to an attack chain of ['Storm Kick', 'Cobra Strike', 'Storm Kick', 'Crippling Axe Kick'] Which I think looks & feels better then it did with Gloom. The Gloom animation on shield leaves a lot to be desired. It also let me get another FF into my AOE powers. All and all I am pretty satisfied with the build. Will probably develop two sets of Incarnates so I can have one set for defense and one for offense. I can see why Hjarki said this combo works better on brutes. I wish I could fit Warrior's Provocation in the build somewhere. I also feel like endurance can be a problem as a fresh 50 so I have no idea how people can take the musculature incarnate. Maybe Ageless will fix all the endurance problems so I can not need cardiac as much. Thanks again for the help. Build I ended up with. RivalVivi103
Ageless T3 (the one that gives a 90sec buff) is really good and very noticable vs the 60 sec one. Definately give that a go, if you are struggling with end like I was on my brute I went for the Alpha slot with the +End/Reg/Def Boost. I plan to change that later on once I finish up my own slots (and gain more def/power accuracy and recover/regen). Once that happens I'll change it for Muscle Alpha also.
