Unclear on hybrid classes or if they even exist

So, Ive been googling and cant find a definitive answer on whether we can make a hybrid character such as an archetype using ice melee combined with ranged powers of ice-ranged archetype

Furthermore, what about using claw melee and also having ranged gun archetype?

Sorry, I missed out on COH when it was officially out, sadly. The wiki pages dont seem to give definitive answers. It's more of just lists of powers.

Ok last question: If I play going rogue, when i hit level 20, does that mean when I go to Primal Earth i get to restart the story of the base game as a "rogue" and do both hero and villain missions?

Hybrids as you describe them are not a thing officially. It may be possible to mod things around to add new such archetypes however.

They would require their own values though, as there's the ranged/melee multipliers and inherents to take into account.

Aww. I wanted to make Susanoo. The Japanese Storm/trickster god who also wields a famous katana :(

Im surprised hybrids werent a thing considering how in depth this game is. Even abysmal champions online allows hybrids.

Ice/Ice (and others) were actual blaster sets, not some hybrid. They shared some powers but even those had different values or details.

For example, Electricity Manipulation does share about half its powers with Electrical Melee, but:

Electrical Manipulation has a ranged immobilize, a toggle PBAoE DoT, Power Sink, and Shocking Grasp (a single target Hold melee) as its capstone

Electrical Melee has different levels for certain powers, offers a melee cone, more PBAoEs including its capstone (a teleport no less), and taunts.

Now if someone could mix and match anything, someone who went Shield Defense / Devices would offensively have... Caltrops at level 2, Taser and some pool powers at 4,

and then no other offensive abilities until Tripmine at level 28. Even as a tanker you'd need the presence pool just to be able to taunt once in a while and forget levelling without a party to carry you.

Meanwhile the Demon Summoning / Fire Control guy would be shutting everything down for the army of damaging pets to run amok.

The thing about the game is that the power sets that are shared between archetypes have their effectiveness scaled appropriately for the class's strengths, and sometimes have powers tweaked depending on how close the archetypes are. Because of special needs an AT might have some powers might be swapped out to make room for say, a Taunt, or a self-heal or crowd control ability. But usually they're at least 80% the same just differing in power.

If you look at the archetype descriptions for like Tank vs Scrapper or Defender vs Corrupter you'll see the defense vs offense ratings change. Like you can think of a tank being 60% defense and 40% offense but a scrapper is the inverse.

Having katana melee attacks and storm summoning powers (which is a support buff/debuff set) would be very weird. Honestly there is an archetype where it would almost work though and that is the Dominator.

Dominator primaries are control sets. Their secondaries, "Assault" sets are like a combo of blaster secondaries with a couple decent attacks wedged in. You could absolutely construct a Dominator secondary that was about stabbing people with blades and chucking knives at them for their ranged attacks (and then skin the weapons as katanas and kunais). And, just as the support set Dark Miasma got a cousin set as Dark Control, you could probably also create a Weather Control set out of Storm Summoning.

But it would be a ton of work.

Conceptually it's sometimes best to just pick something close from the current options and maybe hand wave it a bit. You could roll a Katana/Electric Armor scrapper or brute. You couldn't summon storm clouds but you would be electrified!

Or for a Dominator you could pick Electric or Ice Control as a primary and Electric or Icy Assault as a secondary. You could definitely position that as a storm god ... just not "bothering" to use his katana.

See me on Excelsior as Eridanus - Whisperkill - Kid Physics - Ranger Wilde - The Hometown Scrapper - Firewatch - and more!

Well, now this is an interesting comment. Thanks!

Unless there was a change from Sunset, when you cross from Preatoria you chose hero or villain before crossing and enter the map at your level. So a Goldside 21 blaster could enter as a Redside 21 blaster. No contacts, no newspaper/scanner. Anything that's below 21 you'll have to do via Oroborus later.

Interesting. So is there a way to not be a hero or villain and do missions for both sides without doing the Rogue expansion first?
