Working on a Savage/Shield Build

I've been working on this Savage Melee/Shield build.  I just love pouncing all over the place, and I enjoy brutes.

 

I've virtually soft capped defences, as well as S/L resistance.  S/L resistance is capped (I think), but the Adjusted Targeting bonus is bugged and not showing.

 

I don't really like the Mako's, and would like to get a Hecatomb in there somehow, but haven't figured it out.  I also wouldn't mind finding a couple slots for some more psionic resist.

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Sorry for the short form.  I was getting an EX0 when trying to post the long one:

Reconsider your slotting, first line of defense on a defense based set is....defense.  You got Deflection slotted with resist, where as you cold get another 5% defense out of it with defense sets.  Change out the sets with CJ, put more defense in Deflection.  You could probably get by with 75% resist and soft capped defense, having capped resists doesn't help if you are getting slapped around with -15% from the soft cap and getting hit by anything with a -defense debuff further making it worse.

 

Here is a defense build I had been looking at, with low recharge trying to make a cheap one.  Could possibly give you some ideas, I may reconsider it after getting back to the character.

Resists are about half what you have, I hadn't even bothered to consider that you could put resist sets in the defense toggles; thats so opposite of every other defense toggle.

Thank you.  That's very helpful, and thank you for sharing your build!

 

I actually have a question about theory here.  I'm already at over 45% melee defence without more Deflection slots, which is why I chose to focus on the resistance in Deflection.  Is there a reason to go above 45%?

 

Also, what attack rotation do you (or others) use?

Derp me.  I was looking at typed.  You are soft capped all posital, +5 boost the defense and you can cap that AoE.  So for a hodge podge build with defense and resist, you pulled it off.  

 

I noticed you have 6 LOTG global recharge, can change it to something else.  Maybe move the +3 defence global in tough to it, free up 1 slot.

Thanks!  Okay, so 45% was enough.  Phew - that would have been a lot of extra strain on the build!

 

Yeah, I probably overdid it on the recharge.  The idea of the build is that I pounce around like crazy and wanted as much recharge as possible, but I don't really need as much as I gave myself.   I can't move the LotG off Deflection, since I need the defense, but I was able to "unmule" CJ a little bit.  I used it to get some more S/L resist (now 89.63% - so close!).  I also got in a Hecatomb to replace some of the lost recharge.  I put Hemorrhage in this version, but it could easily be replaced by Maiming Slash if I don't like it:

Here is final build.  The character is now level 50 with most of his incarnates 3-slotted.  I made a few adjustments to get rid of Maneuvers, which was an endurance hog, and managed to keep most of what mattered to me.

 

As ever, looking for suggestions.  I'm not super happy with 6-slotting Health, but at the end of the day, there really wasn't anywhere else to put anything.  I might drop One with the Shield, since I never use it:

You can shuffle the slots into health up into Against the Odds, Taunt, or CJ/defense power for some set bonuses; Against the odds is your taunt toggle so keeping stuff clustered for AoE isn't a bad thing. 

 

Maybe shuffle 3 resist/health into One with the shield and just roll with it, god mode looking like Cappy A himself with the incarnate Rebirth Radial you got Regen numbers of Wolvy and half Invulnability of Supes in there.  I might steal this build and modify it for my scrappper just to have one character with a T9.

Help me out here.. im new to these sets and im working on a savage/shield brute as well.  How do you have 1800% regeneration?  I went through the build and turned everything off..and tried to find where the regen is coming from..  i have no idea.

 

My biggest worry with this character is the lack of healing, so I was looking to see if you had an answer for it.. id love to know how to get a flat 1800% resist.

Thank you for the ideas.  Numina's right now is providing both the last bit of ranged defence and the last bit of S/L resistance to reach cap.  I really haven't been able to find any way around it, but those are some interesting ideas.  I think it would be fun to try what you're saying with One with the Shield.  The resist buff definitely turns him into an unkillable beast for a while.  Since I don't really use it, I'm seriously considering Stealth, which would enable me to run to the glowy in missions.  I'm not sure though.

Yep, you found it Corbie.  For some reason the Rebirth Incarnate was switched on.  Without it, my regen is 277%.  That actually answers your original question, too.  I use Rebirth for my on-demand heal, filling one of the biggest holes in the Shield set.  I hope that helps.

Take that EndRdx out of Active Defense and replace it with Recharge.  The DDR in AD stacks, so you want an overlap. I'd also move slots out of Health and into a few of your other powers.

 

I built my scrapper in a different direction - going broad on resists instead of deep - but your build is very close to the S/L resist cap, which is excellent. If you can move the Procs out of True Grit and replace it with the Heal IO and Heal/Rech IO from Preventative you'll get more HP out of the power as well as the extra S/L resist to hit the cap.

 

That last bit is just a thought as it likely means moving a bunch of slots.  FWIW, this is how I slotted TG:

If you've got the budget for it, a Ribosome is useful in Deflection for added S/L resist as well; I went 4x Shield Wall, 1x Ribo, Steadfast +Def in Deflection, FWIW.

Thanks!  I changed the mod in Active Defence.  I hadn't considered the stacking.  That's a great idea with the Hami O.  My issue is that I only have 3 resistance powers to work with, especially if I take Stealth (which I'm planning).  If I want to do a real revamp, the first step would be to swap a Gaussian set into Blood Thirst, which frees up a lot of slots, starting with the ones in Super Jump.  I definitely appreciate the ideas, including the idea of balancing my resists more.  I'll keep tweaking.
