Slash command for global friend broadcast

I think it would be useful to have a slash command (something like /tellglobals) that would send a message to all my online global friends (hidden or not? Or exclude hidden? Not sure). Would be great when starting a team, I can send a quick broadcast to them, so that they can then reply to me if they would like to join. It can be even time-gated (can only be used every 2-3 minutes?) to avoid spam.

There is actually a chat channel for either your global list or your server friends list. I'm not in game at the moment but I know it was one of the two.

 

The downside to that thought is it needs to be set up on all partys for them to see when someone says something in the chat tab.

Are you looking for Ultramode style, candy coated enhancements and powers?

There's a chat for Server Friends but there isn't anything for Global Friends.


I guess my idea isn't a new chat channel, but just a shortcut so that instead of manually sending the same tell to each Global Friend one by one, we would have one command to send the same tell to all online Global Friends in one shot.

Whether it be a new channel or a command it would actually be nice to have. You could send out a blanket invite to anyone on your global list. SEems like it'd be much more efficient than sending out 6-7 messages and then having to sort through who responded.

Need to consider not everyone has the same Global Friends as one another. So just because I appear in Person X global friends list along with Person Y, doesn't mean that I am on Person Y's Global Friends list also. This could cause a channel where it appears people are talking to ghosts from certain peoples perspectives. 

 

Example:

Person X Global Friends list:

Person Y
Person Z
Henry

 

Person Y Global Friends list:

Person X
Person Z

Henry Global Friends list:
Person X
MYBFFJILL

 

So if Person Y sends a chat out in the global channel, Henry wont see it, but if Person X responds in that channel, Henry will see his response... but have no context. This same thing happens in Coalition chats.

But we have a chat channel for server friends and that would technically have the same problem. People could just use the channel for initial broadcast but respondents could feel free to respond with tells. 

 

I don't see why this would need to be a slash command, just make a chat channel since there's actually precedent for that ("Friends" channel). Why not.

Oh I agree with you, its better as a channel, just wanted to point that out because people often forget this little detail about chat channels.

Right, it can be a one-way chat channel or a command that sends tells to all online global friends, and then if a recipient wants to reply, they reply with a tell.  It comes to the same thing in term of functionality...

In terms of getting the message out, yes. But the way it does it... no.

The problem I can see with a /tellglobals is with the way that tells work. I could imagine the code behind that would be quite complicated. 

I am not saying that it is impossible, the point here is there already sort of is a way to do this in game using channels. You can create a channel right now in game and I believe there is even a way to mass invite all of your global friends to that channel. So, what I am saying is, your request (while I do see why you would want it) is essentially asking the devs to write a new system to solve a problem few people have for which there already exists a solution in game. Hence, I could see them putting in a built in Global Friends Channel but not a /tellglobals command.

I'm sure there are workaround to a lot of things, I won't pretend my suggestion isn't a "Quality of Life enhancement". It's not a request for some new groundbreaking feature. Also, we're not the devs and so I won't speculate on work effort.

 

If you can't see the difference between what I suggested and having each player create their own channel, invite each global friend to it, relying on each global friend to add the channel to their chat tab every time they create a new character, then *shrug*

I see the difference, just don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze. *shrug*

 

Making a built in global friends channel would be the better way to do this.
