Fire/Psy Build Help

I too was recently building a Fire/Psi dominator and was about to come here to ask for some tips as well.

 

My line of thinking is this build shines in a role of melee damage and soft controls so I put together this level 50 high-end build that has a strong focus on getting right up into melee range and smashing right along with the brutes, tanks, and scrappers.

 

I don't take flashfire or cinders because I have perma-dom and Psychic Shockwave popping off a Mag 4 stun every 4 seconds. Edit: I ended up changing the build to take Flashfire because I realized that Shockwave's stun is on a %chance to stun and I wanted a more reliable hard control in the build. In addition to that I have Bonfire slotted for -KB which will ensure entire mobs are flopping for the whole fight as well.

 

I went Ice Mastery because the combination of Sleet and Ice Storm on top of Bonfire just sounds amazing. Additionally, an almost perma-hoarfrost synergizes perfectly with Drain Psyche (more HP means more Regen) and will work well considering you live in melee with this build. Frozen armor makes sure we hit our goal of 45% S/L defense which will definitely help to give us an extra layer of protection from the melee hits that will be coming our way. Watch out for Cimerorans though, as their defense debuffs will make short work of you if you let them. Lastly, Hot Feet, a power which I usually skip because I find the running very annoying, is a perfect fit for this build because there is no escape.

 

Obviously this build may not work quite as well if you exemp a lot because it's designed to have  ALL THE SLOTS and certain powers are under-slotted because they are covered by IOs. For example I only have the perf. shifter proc in Stamina because I have perma-drain psyche. If I exemp below my ability to use Drain Psyche, obviously that's a problem.

Here's another take on a fire / psy / ice dominator.

 

Damage procs are fit into the build where they can be, which helps noticeably for DPS. 

 

On the defensive side, the usual controls are taken. Cinders and flashfire have a 25 foot radius, which helps in many situations. Another key feature of the build is to have good resists most of the time by rotating melee core hybrid incarnate and rune of protection. The demonic and eye of the magus clicky accolades help to fill in gaps for resists from time to time, as needed. Doing this makes for a noticeably tougher build when fighting in melee against mobs that can do big smash / lethal damage, as well as against mobs that do other, more exotic damage types.

I can and will always approve of this build.  I have tested this build with @EJ many many many times.  We have done lots of ITFs as a duo or trio in max diff settings with no inspirations.

This build looks crazy and I have been wanting to try ice mastery, Ive been trying to grind up some inf to get some of the winter sets because they seem really good.

Dominators benefit greatly from having high global recharge because permadom is such a big step up in effectiveness and because their longer recharge AOE controls are available noticeably more often with high global recharge. Winter sets help in a key way by providing resistance to -recharge debuffs and to -speed debuffs, which helps to keep permadom active and to make both attacks and controls available more reliably, even when stacked -recharge debuffs are active on them.

 

I usually aim for 50% or more -recharge resistance, which is usually provided by the winter's gift unique IO and 2 partial winter sets. Superior winter sets also provide high positional and typed defenses, plus some resistance to fire / cold, which makes them even more appealing.
