JessWLH Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Just start a Symph/Ele Troller. I am super new to the game can anyone suggest a path to try to go down for this guy?
SeraphimKensai Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Being super new.... I'd suggest hi just rolling organically with it and learning as you go working on mission arcs. Otherwise... I'd suggest loading up the public test server and trying your powerset combo at various levels and look at power synergy between your sets to see what you like and then build it that way on the production servers. Also if you like numbers you can look up city of data, and download mids reborn.

(At least, you might be in THE CITY, unless you are a dastardly villain or a dystopian refugee/citizen of Praetoria...) Go with your character conception. If you get into the character, you are more likely to play with them. Just take your time and enjoy being a superhero. If you run the Origin arcs they aren't going to take you so far that you need travel powers early. Take your time and fight street crime. Keep your reputation on flat to begin with. Raise up the difficulty level as you feel comfortable with your powers against enemies. Don't feel bad about turning the difficulty down and resetting a mission if you are having problems with it. All enemy groups have a weakness. Watch their behavior. With controllers try to get containment. "Controllers are the masters at locking down and controlling their opponents. Few can escape their will. Controllers do extra damage to any target that is already Held, Immobilized, Slept, or Disoriented." -https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Inherent_Powers#Containment This grants critical damage on your attacks. If you are in a group, and use an AoE, make sure that there is a wall to dive behind if your team doesn't have a "taunting" tank. Walls give you 100% def and res after the possible initial alpha. if you are solo, the best tactic would be to try to immobilize or hold and fall back and fight ones that get through. There is no shame in falling back or running out of the door on a mission if you need to. This is based on the way that I build characters from the start: I add a slot to powers that take accuracy as soon as possible. I put 2 accuracy in the first two slots of any power that takes accuracy enhancements. I put 1 endurance reducer in any power that is going to be constantly toggled on. I put 1 endurance reducer in any power that cost more than 10 END. I try to put a second slot in toggle Resistance and/or defense powers as soon as possible. By level 10 I try to put an additional slot in Stamina. By level 15 I try to put another slot in Stamina as able. (If you have the influence for it, try to get an attuned Panacea :: +HP, +End The third slot on attack power depends on how much damage it does. Low damage powers get a slot for the powers SFX (-def, slow, etc.). High damage powers get damage enhances. Always get powers that help mitigate stun, holds, etc. if possible. If not, always carry at least 2 break free (or higher level Resist Effect inspirations)[https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Inspirations] You're going to have a hold power. I suggest getting 2 acc in that, then 1 recharge. Then 1 hold. After that, as able after level 27, get an attuned Lockdown: chance for +2 mag hold. Slot that in the slot that you had the hold in, and then put in another slot and add a 2nd from the Lockdown set (I would suggest the ACC/Hold or REC/Hold) and/or a hold enhance. The hold is a very powerful tool because the enemy can't fight back. If you can keep a boss lockdown until you take out their minions, you will have a much easier time. This won't work on some of the bosses, but you can lock down LTs or minions instead. But again, the main goal should be to have fun and explore the game. If you don't get a travel power, THE CITY seems to be a much bigger place and you get to see everything that is going on at street level. You can get a flight pack for free from the day job of parking (logging off your character) in the Shadow Shard. You can get to the Shadow Shard by going to the tram in Atlas Park and looking for the yellow swirling vortex looking thing at street level below the tram platform. Click on the Firebase Zulu option to get in. Move down onto the area where the people are exercising and park there. After 3-4 days of parking down there you will be charging up the flight pack (it will show up in the top right of your power window once you get it). You can charge it for up to 2 hours. Don't forget to check out: Don't forget you can use the /help channel in-game. The Community is pretty helpful in most cases. And have fun! See you in THE CITY. Edited June 28, 2023 by UltraAlt 1 If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
