Could anyone please help me make this build better and give me advice on how to respec said build for PVE mainly Task forces.  would taking fire blast over flares be the better option at level 1?

It would be helpful if you could post a link so the build could be opened in Mid's. It also looks like you're working with an old version. The levels at which powers become available has changed.

  • Take Fire Blast instead of Flares.
  • Twilight Grasp requires accuracy. Slot Touch of the Nictus instead of Numina. The Numina proc should be slotted in Health (it needs to be in an active power).
  • In Darkest Night, switch the rech/end piece for the -tohit piece.
  • I wouldn't bother with the proc in Howling Twilight. Just slot a recharge IO.
  • Add slots to Shadow Fall for damage resistance.
  • Drop the slots in Kick, you're never going to use the power.
  • Slot Fearsome Stare for -tohit, not fear, either Cloud Senses or Siphon Insight.

I think that's my old build from a couple years back. You give solid advise all around. Some of those choices were driven by the chase for ranged def and end reduction and some were just bad choices, live and learn 🙂 I avoided purples back then too so there are places to slot them to boost recharge as well, probably in Inferno and Fireball.

However, for all its flaws, I did take him on a TF a couple weeks ago (still using this build) and he still runs wonderfully!

I think the one posted above works perfectly fine. I went and started to hammer out a build for my own level 50, and number wise there are some changes, but overall they are rather similar. Mine's a bit more offensive due to procs in Tar Patch and Howling Twilight and damage slotting in the Epic powers but is also currently lacking 20% recharge. My ToHit is higher though.

I'm bumping this to see if anyone else has any further thoughts on this combo. I tried one over the weekend and loved it! The character got to 31 in practically a single sitting and felt pretty impactful while running through Posi 1 and 2 and Penny Yin.

I do have a question. My thoughts are to grab what I want from Fire/ and /Dark (basically everything except the T7 and T8 /Dark), then pick up Leadership and my epic pool (Dark, Soul, or Mu). Most/all of my other characters also take the Fighting toggles, to the point that they feel like a power tax the way that Fitness did once upon a time. I'm thinking the debuffs on /Dark are strong enough that, when combined with Hover, Maneuvers, and eventually set bonuses, I should be okay without Fighting.

I skipped the Fighting pool on my Rad/Dark and don't miss it. I do have Maneuvers, but no Hover or Combat Jumping. I've currently got Dark epic but may switch when Page 7 goes live since Soul Drain is being replaced.

Thanks! Also, eww. That was the main thing attractive to Dark. Soul has an equivalent, and I imagine if they're taking one away they're probably looking at the other.

The issue is that the Dark version has a higher target cap ( 10 vs. 7), larger radius (15 ft vs. 10 ft) and shorter recharge (120s vs. 240s), all of which apparently break the rules. Rather than change the Dark version to match the Soul version, they're replacing the Dark version with Spirit Drain, which will be ranged, have a target cap of 5 and a 15s duration.

This character ended up being a lot of fun and I think I've found the character I want to sit and run TFs with!

The whole thing started because I was making a hoverblaster. Even with devices, I was skipping a lot of secondary powers in favor of pool powers and not getting super far. I really wasn't looking to take the dark epic pool. I did try it, it wasn't working so well. I tried Power instead to lean more towards hoverblasting and I think there's a redeemable build there, but that build had other problems (not enough recharge, too big a gap in hasten creating very large gaps in the attack chain). I went back to dark, swapped out leadership for fighting. The current/starter build ended up being closer to Without Pause's build, minus hasten and maneuvers, plus Flares and teleport target. Chasing enough recharge to drop Flares was cost prohibitive for now, but I can absolutely see doing that on a mature build. On a budget of maybe 50 million I was able to get defenses into the 20-30 range, S/L resistance above 50, and endurance issues addressed.

The build is now sturdy enough that I'm leaning into Soul Drain and playing a lot more aggressively, getting up into melee and PBAoEing when that's available. The damage combo of Aim, Soul Drain, Inferno hits hard enough I don't (personally) care that I'm on a corruptor instead of a blaster. Dark consumption has been problematic because I tend to wait until I'm completely out of endurance and then by the time I realize this and hit the button someone else has killed most of the pack and I'm just out of gas for the next spawn. That's probably a skill issue. I had it poorly slotted to begin with and am fixing that.

The question from here is where to go with Incarnate abilities? The answer is probably if I really enjoy the character, make a few and give myself options.

Alpha - I went Cardiac. I wanted to go Musculature but felt Cardiac was prudent because of how heavy the endurance costs can be. I want endurance to either be on autopilot with zero outside help or have Conserve Power for convenience. I might try making a Musculature as an alternate, especially if I want to try the Power epic.

Interface - Reactive seemed like the best option both thematically and mechanically. I'm not sure about Core vs Radial.

Judgment - Seems very personal preference oriented.

Destiny - No idea. I've seen votes for Clarion for mez protection and someone was recruiting in game for something and requiring a high tier Barrier slot to come along.

Lore - What I've read indicates Banished Pantheon is a good pick and it's thematic for this build.

Hybrid - Support radial looks like an obvious option. Assault looks attractive, too.

Edit - Added my "budget" build. It's not all cheap. There are costly global IOs. But I believe it's something that you could level into smoothly and exemplar to any level with very easily. I'm still building it out in game but I started with the endurance fixes, then attacks, and now I'm working on debuffs and defensive powers, which is definitely the most expensive part.
