I'm not really sure where they are going with this movie. They keep saying that it is not really a sequel, and the ways that I've read its been said are confusing, especially when revealing "force ghost" Flynn. I'm hoping they reveal that they've been sitting on a surprise and that Sam Flynn and Quorra are in this, otherwise that's a massive plot hole to handwave. As to Boxleitner, depending on how much of a sequel this is, it might be an opportunity to recast Tron, with an explanation that his visuals have been altered, possibly in the explosion. Bruce at age 75, even willing, can't keep playing the character, and even with technology advances, it remains expensive to show another actor with Boxleitner's face. Human character Allen will age and die, and Tron will be on its own afterwards. That's assuming they ever want to work with the character again, which would be weird seeing how even the third movie is called TRON: Ares and not The World of TRON: Ares. Early on, I harbored a thought that perhaps Ares was a retooling of Tron, one in which his memory is still suppressed. Not so sure of that now.

Which had been greenlit, with the the same director and featuring Sam and Quorra. Then Tomorrowland flopped and Disney cancelled it. I'm still pissed about that. This looks like it's going to a disaster. The first trailer made it seem like humans were pulling programs out of the grid to use as weapons. That longer trailer with all the footage of previous Tron movies seems desperate to remind people what the Tron franchise is about. The recent spots make it look like the programs on the grid have just decided to go to war with humans. Jered Leto is coming off some serious flops. There's only so much that Trent Reznor can do to generate hype for this movie.

The album is scheduled to drop 19th September, and you'd better believe I'll be getting it on the day. The movie... still not so sure. WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE. Look out for me being generally cool, stylish and funny (delete as applicable) on Excelsior.
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Update. Now, there’s been some talking around on these boards before as to whether box office may or may not be the best indicator of how good a movie is. But. If current numbers are anything to go by, Ares will open with around $38m over the four-day holiday weekend. Which is about $5m behind Tron:Legacy from 2010, and $1m behind… Morbius. …ouch? Without a serious pickup over the next few weeks, this will leave Legacy as the only one of the three to hit that magic 3x breakeven point on release. (The 1982 one ran it very close, but the Mouse made much more than the movie on merch.) By contrast, the album is mostly favourably reviewed and hitting the top end of charts all over the shop. I don’t think it’ll become as iconic as the Daft Punk one, but it’s not quite as warm/cuddly/chillout spa zone friendly as that… WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE.
