Kodo Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Hi, I played this back in the day and recently to my surprise something popped up in my Google news feed saying that there was a new City of Heroes server, so heck yeah. It's been a while and I'm sure that once I start playing things will come back to me but for right now I have a few questions if you don't mind. 1. What is the most powerful class? Like full-on Sith Lord hands down unlimited power? 2. I don't remember what the bubble class is called, but are these sought-after for groups? 3. What server has the most players on it? 4. What server has the fastest experience gain? 5. Are there heroes and villains or just Heroes? I never played with villains I only ever played City of Heroes. 6. Is PVP very popular or do most people PVE? 7. Is this free? Or are there any pay-to-play or pay-to-win or pay for cosmetics or any of that stuff? 8. Is it easy to find a group? 9. Is there anything else that you think I should know before I start? Thank you
Zumberge Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 1. What is the most powerful class? Like full-on Sith Lord hands down unlimited power? The proletariat, they just haven't fully grasped that fact yet. Nah, but seriously, that's up for a huge amount of debate. 2. I don't remember what the bubble class is called, but are these sought-after for groups? You probably mean Force Fields. Generally, yes, but it's also worth noting that there's several sets that have the same theme of "put shield on person, person is hurt less," so the definition of "bubbler" has expanded a little. 3. What server has the most players on it? I want to say Everlasting, but it varies a little based on time. 4. What server has the fastest experience gain? All of them. In the starting zones (Atlas Park and Mercy Island) there's someone called a P2W Vendor. You can gain a boost to XP gain in exchange for an equal decrease in Influence gain, e.g. you can get 50% more XP but only earn 50% influence, or 100% more XP for no inf gain at all. Despite the name you don't actually have to pay real money for it; it's just the devs having funsies. 5. Are there heroes and villains or just Heroes? I never played with villains I only ever played City of Heroes. Both, but there's much more population hero-side. Villain mains tend to be grumpy about this. Not without reason. 6. Is PVP very popular or do most people PVE? There's an unofficial PvP server, but for the most part it's PvE. 7. Is this free? Or are there any pay-to-play or pay-to-win or pay for cosmetics or any of that stuff? Absolutely free. Everything is unlocked at the start. All cosmetics, capes, auras, power sets, you name it. 8. Is it easy to find a group? Varies depending on the time, but usually. 9. Is there anything else that you think I should know before I start? Don't worry too much about the influence loss with the bonus XP gain. If you check the Guides section of the boards there's several ways to make money using the auction house/black market. As a Scrapper main I eat a steady diet of crayons and glue to keep my wits sharp and my reflexes honed.
Lunchmoney Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 3. What server has the most players on it? Check here https://forums.homecomingservers.com/status/ At time of typing this it's Excelsior. I used to play under the handle @Purple Clown, back on Live. Now I play under @Lunchmoney I'm in the UK and play on Reunion.
PaxArcana Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 1. What is the most powerful class? Like full-on Sith Lord hands down unlimited power? Played right? All of them. Just, in different ways. :) 2. I don't remember what the bubble class is called, but are these sought-after for groups? You mean, able to buff allies? Mostly Defenders, though Controllers, Corruptors, and Masterminds all can do it too. 4. What server has the fastest experience gain? They're identical. 5. Are there heroes and villains or just Heroes? I never played with villains I only ever played City of Heroes. Both. Also, any archetype can be a Hero now, and any archetype can be a Villain. 6. Is PVP very popular or do most people PVE? PvP has never been particularly popular in CoX. 7. Is this free? Or are there any pay-to-play or pay-to-win or pay for cosmetics or any of that stuff? The devs accept donations periodically, to pay for the expense of running the servers. But otherwise, 100% free, through and through. 8. Is it easy to find a group? Yes. The pickier you are about what you want to do, the less easy it is, of course. More importantly: you do not NEED a group in this game. Every archetype can solo most content, all the way to the level cap. Global Handle: @PaxArcana ... Home servers on Live: Freedom & Virtue ... Snakebit Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 As for grouping, it's been my experience that it is better than live in the PUG department. Much better. I have yet to run into anyone who was even remotely rude. New players play like new players and the people who know what's up are polite and informative and it's well taken. There's a little bit of friction from time to time on /help but not too much, and it's usually over AT's and ill informed. Homecoming is IMO the pinnacle of what CoH could have been. You don't have to grind every toon from 1-20....without farming. You aren't excluded from prestige stuff on alt's that you earned on your mains. Want an undead slaying axe? Click click. Want to customize your inspiration drops? click click. Need to earn some influence? You can make a few million in a day easy peasy..without farming. Want to farm? It's available. It's been nerfed a bit (I'm leaning toward righteously) but it's still farming. I went from 12 to 37 in a few hours and frankly I'm relieved. The hazard zones are mostly empty, but you can still get on TF's. I've yet to see any TV respec trials, but they happen. I tried to solo one today LOL. Try it out. It's free. It's good. It may not be your cup of tea, but it's good. Servers are kept alive via donations. It appears to me that there is only a certain window open that they accept donations, and last month that window was only open for like 16 minutes. The game is being tended to with care. ________________ Freedom toons: Illuminata Phoebros Mim Ogrebane
