Can Clarion Core replace your standard status protection?

If you have a clickable status protection like Kuji-Rin or Practiced Brawler on auto-fire, could it be replaced if you took Clarion Core and auto-fired it instead, or does it diminish too much before recycling and create a window where you're vulnerable?

Doing a quick look at the t4 versions.    2m recharge and the main buff is for 22.5 or 30 seconds.  Rest goes for longer.

Looks like protection from hold on the left side would be great (30) for 30 seconds and after that at 9 for another 30 seconds, then down to 3 for that last minute.

 

Right side is similar, but no protection for the last 30 seconds.

That is Boss level protection.  And they would have to hit.  Definitely a little more risky but I'd hazard you would usually be okay.  Depending on how much kb protection you have outside of PB, well not sure how much resistance you have to knock via just Clarion.  Getting bounced around if no knock resistance may be more than mildly annoying with Clarion alone.  Since I'd still have PB available I may just check it out.

 

EDIT:  Heh, I have run to 20th long time back in Praetoria with no PB (I took it at 20th prior to leaving).  This was before Incarnates even existed.

    Bit of an update.  Running with Clarion Core Epiphany it appears to be mag 6 minimum protection, There is what looks like a gap while refiring Clarion (but its already firing so not sure it matters).  Ran a number of PI Radio missions on a team at +4/x8.  Got immobilized a few times by the silly numbers of Galaxies present.  Was running CJ in addition to Clarion and got immobilized despite high mag protections.  But the tldr it would appear its quite easy to run my Claws/SR scrapper without significant issue without PB (removed from tray).  Came close once while running Clarion as my main status protection, but no deaths while running without PB.  Used I believe 2 breakfree while running these missions.  Faced a variety of foes, no DE or Nemesis encountered.

I've played a lot of Scraps/Tanks on live and a handful here. I think the main question is: wouldn't you get a metric ton more utility out of the +def/+res or the +end/+recovery Destiny incarnate?

 

I couldn't imagine skipping the mez resist power on any melee character (or Sentinel) solely because it is likely better than the incarnate ability in the long run. And most of the status protection powers offer something on top of status protection, for example:

  • Electric: offers end. drain protection, end. recovery debuff protection, and some Psi. resistance;
  • Bio: seems to offer some defense (haven't played, so this is from description only)
  • Energy: offers recharge bonus and defense debuff resistance;
  • Ice: offers resistance to slow and defense debuff;
  • Regen: offers more regen;
  • Ninjutsu: offers fear and Psi resistance plus some extra speed

 

I can't think of a reason that skipping the mez protection in any set would be beneficial. Thats the boon of being a melee character or Sent -- you don't have to take Clarion and can do much more with one of the other Destiny sets. Just my 2 cents.
