Making Mids builds is taking game theory-crafting and using Mids to translate it into workable action in-game.

Mids reborn also has its own discord  where the caretakers of it and others congregate.  It also has builds and discussions builds that do not always overlap similar discussions here.

  • I HAVE NOT USED A CURRENT VERSION OF MIDS IN YEARS.   SO, I JUST DOWNLOADED THE LATEST MIDS TO PLUG IN & LOOK AT AN IDEA I HAD.
  • BE CAREFUL, SET-BONUSES ADDING UP ARE WONKY.  I.E. RESISTANCES.  ESPECIALLY PSI AND TOX.
  • ANOTHER WONK IS GLOBALS.  I.E. DEF PROCS.
  • NOT A DIG AT MIDS, JUST SUGGEST LOOKING  AT THE NUMBERS CAREFULLY.
  • I DO NOT DO DISCORD, SO TELLING THOSE AT THE HELM IN THAT CONTEXT IS NOT HAPPENING.

PvP Capture the Flag!  Bring some fun into it....

I probably shouldn't get on this horse again, but here I go, getting on this horse again:

Ask about piano lessons, and everyone will tell you how they taught themselves to play by ear. Actually, scratch that -- they'll tell you that they taught themselves to play by ear, but how they did that will never enter into the discussion.

I've asked basically this same question -- how does a person actually learn to make their own builds? -- several times, and unfortunately nobody seems to be able/willing/whatever to give a more specific answer than "IDK figure it out, n00b." By and large, the responses you're going to get in this thread will be that it's easy, that you shouldn't need anyone's help (or that it's impossible for anyone to help you), and that the best thing to do is just sit down in front of a blank screen on Mids and screw around for two or three hundred hours until you eventually blunder into perfection. How you're expected to know when you've achieved that perfection without respeccing 90 times in-game is anyone's guess.

You'll get vague advice like "build for defense," or "dominators want a lot of recharge," but no specifics regarding what targets to shoot for or how to actually hit them; feel free to prove me wrong here, folks. To a point this is because making a build is more art than science. But only to a point. Hard numbers do exist, and while there's no "best way" to build, there are most definitely good ways and bad ways. Not that I, personally, could tell you what those are. And not for lack of trying.

You're a monkey, here's your typewriter, go write Hamlet. And if you can't do that, here's a copy of Hamlet that someone else wrote, just cross out any lines you don't like and write in your own.

I'm self taught.  Though I've been playing since Beta Blue till Sunset, Pre-HC, HC Day 1.  I spent a lot time learning on my own and eventually on live folks started asking me for builds it's been going on since then.

If your ask yourself but how, not sure what direction to go.  For myself I led teams since Beta. I ran point and also focus on being able to Help team as a whole and SURVIVE anything.  No matter what(Sure RNG Gods love to ruin that sometimes). I make sure no matter what toon I'm able to take the Alpha Strikes and handle situation for my team.

I have several sayings since live.

1. Pay attention to your area 110% of the time. If you see someone backing up into another group or ambush otw. Be the ready to handle it.

2.  The 3 R's are a must and should be respected and followed. What are the 3 Rs?  +Recovery, +Recharge, -Regeneration.

3. Understand the Rules of 1-3-5. So many don't understand that.  What are those rules?

A. Rule 1: Global/Unique Recipe Enhancements are just that and thus can only be used 1x in a build.

B. Rule 3: Know that past 3 of same type of enhancement buff, you start getting less gains to point it's useless. Thus 3 Slotting Stam with 3 Endos is all you need. If you try 6 slot that with 6 endos is a freaking waste of slots and returns.  This count's for recipes in powers.

C. Rule 5: When it comes to Recipes and bonuses. Your max is 5. What does that mean? If you have 6 Recipes that say you gain +3% Resists to Smashing/Lethal for example. That 6th does not apply.

4. SLOTS...SLOTS MAN, SLOTS.  Are honestly hands down the most important thing for a build. Learn how to Min/Max those to your best ability. You get a limited amount to use. That means, taking every power in the sun you can is utterly useless if you don't have the slots to use on them.  If you plan to go recipes, that's even more crucial.  Understanding that, you'll see why folks have weird powers with no slots.  Odds are they are throw away powers or are being used as a Global Recipe Holder, like LoTG 7.5% Recharge Proc.
