Dark/Ice - great on paper

One of the last things I did before taking an extended break from the game was to build a Dark/Ice tanker.
It wasn't long after the Tanker changes and I remember looking on paper and thinking that Dark/Ice seemed almost too good to be true

I was a complete novice on both sets and threw together a build. I tried it in game and was dissapointed ... Endurance was a MAJOR issue and killing bosses in game took far too long, so I shelved it and the game for a number of years

Coming back I wanted another crack at him and felt he got a bad rap. I just updated the build in mids (I realsie now you can take tankers secondary T2 early meaning I can take Ice Sword where previously I took Frozen Fists and didnt even have it on my bars)

I just tried a solo mission and the end problem seems much better? Maybe some changes have hapened who knows, but bosses still take a long time to kill, I wonder if the build is too focused on defence and not enough on offence


My attach chain is something like: Frozen Aura, Freezing Touch, Frost, Gloom and then slam whatever is up but those 4 seem to sustain me (Ice Sword might be worth using over Frozen Fists now? not sure)

What would you guys do to this build? I'm not attached to any powers in particular so rip it to shreds if it offends you

*Mids is borked atm so cant add Incarnates but I used Cardiac for obvious reasons - thristy combo

In my opinion, you're trying to make this combination into something that it's not. Dark armor has no offensive buffs that other armor sets like Bio, Shield, Fire, Stone, and Radiation do. Similarly, ice melee isn't top tier in damage either from the tanker secondary options. Dark/ice has the potential to be an extremely tough tank that's best to play on teams so that others can handle bringing the damage and killing things. You've got one of the best heals in the game in Dark Regeneration and Ice Patch is a 1 slot wonder that can be very useful to keep enemies on the ground instead of attacking you. If your goal is to make a great solo tank, I would look at other armor sets and secondaries to improve your damage as opposed to trying to make dark armor and ice melee into something that it's not.

Haven't had issues with mids, but considering checking if you have the latest version. I was able to import the mids data chunk you posted just fine.

As I mentioned above, I would personally focus on making it as sturdy as possible and use it as a team tank rather than trying to solo. I also made a dark/ice for this purpose though I still haven't settled on a final build that I would want to use so mine is still collecting dust for now. I was trying to reach certain goals with mine, such as hitting soft cap positional defense on top of hard cap resists. This resulted in a very costly build as winter sets were used heavily to get those defense values. And yes, I do realize that dark armor has no DDR, but not all mobs lower defense either and I always intended this combo to be extremely durable when I made it.

 

The build below is my last attempt at building one in mid's and I still wasn't quite happy with the way it looked. It does nearly reach all positional soft cap with the additional 5% defense from barrier core for lvl 50 content.

dark/ice was a nice surprise with how fun it ended up being.  Easily one of my favorite tanks. 

 

capped resist to everything but Energy/Toxic and those are at 64%/58% respectively. 

 

2621 HP with the 4 main accolades.

Considering I love both my Dark/Psi/Fire Tanker and my Bio/Ice/Fire Tanker, I’m not seeing anything wrong with the proposed powerset combination.
