Hi,

Well now I did it! In trying to fix a small problem I ended up borking my entire install of HC on my Mac.

I tried LaunchCat. At first all it would do is loop installing wine 9. Once I deleted the COH folder from Applications I tried again, but it didn't install fully. Anyway, I've been going round and round just trying to get COH to work on my Mac, and eventually I decided to uninstall Homebrew and all previous installs of wine... and start fresh. Reinstalled Homebrew, Reinstalled, Wine, and Winetricks.  I associated the .exe extension to be opened with Wine, so I downloaded the HC Launcher and installed it in /Applications/coh.

I'm able to run the game, but it's now super laggy. It didn't used to be under my old installation. So I was wondering if you have any tips? Are there any wine dependencies that need to be installed, winetricks set, specific version of wine, etc. to help make it smoother? Or sans that,  maybe a way to get LaunchCat to work?

Thanks.

Oh wow! Running COH under Wine 9.0 vs 10.0 makes a world of difference! So much better! My FPS is steady at 95-100 for most places, and 40 FPS inside my SG base... which is a huge improvement! The FPS in my SG base using Wine 10.0 was a low, low 12 FPS!!! There might be other reasons, like the way I set up Wine 10 on my sytem, but this is good enough for me right now.

@Manga, out of curiosity what was the WINEPREFIX you used for the Wine 9.0 distribution in LaunchCat?

I was messing around with Apple's Game Porting Kit today. Interestingly, Apple's GPK uses code from both Wine and Crossover to run Windows apps.

The entire launch process is in "launch.sh" in the coh folder.  I have Wine set to use a folder called ~/.privatewine (your user folder's .privatewine folder).

I test newer versions of Wine from time to time, and if they don't work or don't behave, I keep the version back.  So it's at 9.0 right now because that's the most well behaved version.

I’ve used wine and winetricks for 20 years yet never really took a deep look or learned much about how to set it up.  It’s pretty cool.

Have you tried to find a way to enable hardware acceleration?

It's not built into the binary yet, and I haven't wanted to deal with compiling my own.
