srmalloy Posted October 5 Posted October 5 When I opened the "You Can't Keep Your Balance!" tip while my character was in Kallisti Wharf, I got the message "Now is not a good time to investigate this tip. Wait until you are within the streets of Paragon City before you attempt any investigation." If Kallisti Wharf is part of Paragon City, then it should be possible to activate regular tip missions there -- since they're always door missions, there shouldn't be a problem with just designating a door and spawning the mission instance normally; the tip itself already determines whether it's a hero/vig or villain/rogue tip, so that wouldn't be an issue with the zone being co-op. 1
Rudra Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) It is a co-op zone. Just like the hazard zones are part of Paragon City still but you can't access tips in them, you can't access tips in the co-op zones either. (I checked the RWZ, and can't check tips there either.) Blue side tips can only be checked from specifically blue side zones (that are not hazard zones) and red side tips can only be checked from specifically red side zones. Even Striga Isle doesn't let us check our tips any more. Edit: If you want a possible in-game reason for the zones working like that? Kallisti Wharf and Perez Park are part of Paragon City, but are not currently under Paragon City control. (No PPD enforcement available.) Edited October 5 by Rudra
srmalloy Posted October 5 Author Posted October 5 I had a tip, opened in Talos Island ('Elegant Party Favor'), send me to Dark Astoria -- which is a co-op zone -- for the mission. After completing the mission, I got the same 'wait until you're back in Paragon City' message with another tip. Either tips should not send you to co-op zones, or the tips themselves should be openable in co-op zones. EIther way is a viable resolution, although given the nature of Kallisti Wharf, if it doesn't generate tips, would feel somewhat odd. 1
Rudra Posted October 5 Posted October 5 If tips were changed to only send players to the same zones where we can open the tips, then we would lose access to tips that send us into Perez Park as well. Personally, I'm fine with tips sending me to other zones, though I question being sent to zones like Dark Astoria. Were tips added before or after Dark Astoria was changed from a hazard zone to a co-op zone? If before, then I think, if it can be done, that tips not sending us to the co-op zones would be fine. I would still like to keep having tips that send us to Perez Park though.
lemming Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I'd be fine with tips working in several of the co-op zones. Heck, KW drops a tip for starting an arc there. Another alternative would be to have tips opened anywhere, but send you to a "proper" zone. Since most tips go to the zone you are in, it would probably be a random zone (or level appropriate). This of course is only viable if the engine allows this sort of use.

Or at least not level-outrageous -- i.e., if your character is doing level-appropriate missions in Talos Island, a tip mission wouldn't send you to Dark Astoria, which is a zone way over your level. But I've had level-50 characters having tip missions send them to Atlas Park, so it's not always 'level-appropriate'; if I had to guess, I'd say that it filters zones using something similar to the code that hides LFG listings if your current character is too low-level to be eligible to join them. Some tips have other constraints -- the one where you defeat the leaders of the Arachnos strike force before they can hit Paragon City requires a ship, so you'll generally get sent to IP to the ship south of the one you can take to Striga, but it could use either of the ships at the south docks in PI, and could send you to one of the ships in Striga (if making the zone co-op hasn't disabled it as a valid tip zone).

Certain tips seem to be specific coded for specific zones. The high level tips that send me to Atlas Park or Port Oakes for instance are always the same tips, and they always send me to those zones. I'm guessing the Dark Astoria one is one of those tips. And if tips were added before the Mot arc like I think I remember, that would make sense because it was a level 23 zone at the time.
