Lunar Ronin Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Raph Koster, lead developer of Ultima Online, Star Wars: Galaxies, and the upcoming Stars Reach MMORPGs, gave a hour long presentation recently on the evolution of online video gaming. It's quite interesting, IMO. Edited 6 hours ago by Lunar Ronin 1
Triumphant Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Thanks for the video. That was certainly an exhaustive treatment of the subject. I remember playing on several MUDs and MUSHEs back in the day. Always fascinating to consider how they have evolved since then. I love the idea of sandbox games, but I think that one thing that has worked against them, is that often the individual activities (crafting, trading, whatever) is often a dull, tedious task- rather than a fun mini-game. I think many players want the kinds of immersion that this level of granularity and detail brings, but without the hum-drum boredom that comes with the real-world equivalent.
