Welcome to City of Heroes.

First don't panik!

This community is very helpfull and if you try to get answers in game with the /help channel, the community will answer you.

If you are totally new to this game, than i would suggest to go first to the pay2win Vendor located in the starting area. There you can grab a double XP boost. There is much more to this vendor but let's skip it for now. Now you can just do some missions for contacts or join a group that is going for a low level trial (something like a dungeon in other games). Just watch out for the /lfg channel and people shouting 'dfb'. That means 'Death from Below'. You can join them even with lvl 1.

Now after you have got some lvl you want to get powers from your spines and bio set. I would skip taunt for a brute. Try to evenly distribute the slots between your attacks and put 2 extra slots early on to 'stamina'.It is a bonus power from a power pool called fitness.  I would say that you simply try to give the most powers 2 extra slots. Until lvl 22 don't buy any enhancement. Just use the ones you find and sell the ones you can not use.

Since i don't want to confuse you, pick  a travel power somewhere on lvl 8, 10 or 12. For new players i would suggest fly, except it does not fit your roleplay.

At lvl 22 comes the really hard part. You are about to get Invention Origin Enhancements, or simply called IO. But to get them you will need some influence. I hope you did end up with some merits in your salvage inventory tab. Go to the next Auctionhouse, they are called wendswort and blackmarket. A merit vendor will stand next to it. Buy enhancement booster and a few enhancement converter. You can sell them in the auction house. The enhancement converter will be a instant sale for 90k. I hope you made enough influence to sell one or two.now you can sell the enhancement converter for 1,2-1,5 million each.

Congratulations, you are now a millionaire!

So with a few millions and lvl 22 you now go to the next university.  There should be a contact to run you through a tutorial on crafting. After you have learned how to use the crafting tables, here is another cool thing: type '/ah' into the chat. It will bring up the auctionhouse almost anywhere in the game. You can open the crafting window and the ah window side by side. Now you can use the ah to buy the IO you need or just to buy the components to craft them yourself. You can use IO of 3 lvl above your chatackter lvl. So you will craft and slot lvl 25 IO. From now on when you get new slots from a lvl up you can immediately get the proper lvl IO. Standard IO come in lvl increaments of 5. You can get lvl 25, 30, 35, and so on. Unlike nirmal enhancements, the IO never expires because you have a higher lvl. The lvl 25 IO will be fine up to lvl 50, when you should start to look for a proper endgame build.

After you know how to lvl, get some money and craft some IO. Now comes the part you where thinking is the information you really need.

What enhancements to slot now?

The enhancements have diminishing return on every enhencement of the same type. So 6 slotting for damage will not work. You can mostly stop to get benefits after the third enhancement of the same type. Surely you remember to put 2 extra slots to stamina so you have a total of 3, did you? That is because you can only slot endurance modification to it and can not benefit from more than 3.

As a overwiev, from left to right slotwise:

Attacks up to 6 slots: 1Accuracy, 1Endurance Reduction, 2 Damage, 1 Recharge Reduction, 1 Damage

Toggles with Defense 5 slots: 2 Endurance Reduction, 3 Defense

Toggles with Resist 5 slots: 2 Endurance Reduction, 3 Resist

Auto Powers with Defense 3 slots: 3 Defense

Auto Powers with Resist 3 slots: 3 Resist

Stamina: 3 Endurance Modification

Health: 1 Healing

I hope you get the idea now.

I write it like this, so you can use the information on any charackter not only this spine/bio brute. And don't be afraid to make a mistake you can totally change your power selections and your slot distribution with a respec. Just type /respec into the chat and you can distribute it again. You get a free respec every 10 lvl.

I hope this information eas not too much and somehow useful.

There are several types of enhancements sold by vendors. At lvl 40, you should buy your enhancements from the store in either Brickstown or Founder's Falls, there's a specific store for your origin and those are called SO's, you can equip them 3 lvls before the enhancement lvl and they will lose effect gradually during 5 lvls until their effect is zero once you have overlevelled them by 2.

Another option are Invention enhancements (IO's) which you can craft yourself (with Salvage that drops while you kill enemies and recipes that also drop or you can purchase at any invention table )or in the the AH under "Invention: Stat" (For example "Invention: Accuracy". These have the advantage that their stats do not decrease by lvl so they offer always same % and the usual rule of thumb is that lvl 35 IO's are roughly equivalent to lvl 50 SO's.

At lvl 40, you should have a decent quantity of salvage so my advice would be to equip lvl 40 IO's either crafted by yourself or purchased in the AH and forget to replace them again, those would be solid even at 50, once you get to know more of the game and more of your char, then you can dabble into "Set IO's" which are basically IO's with certain associated global bonuses, but as I said, I'd forget about those until you know better the game and especially your char.
