  1. How are you feeling playing/leveling it? Is it fun? I hear energy melee has been bad for a while, but I’m using energy/will for a conceptual character - interested in knowing how people are feeling about it.

By default, I always aim for perma-dom.  I have a build or two where I did something else but those are the exceptions to the rule.

How do you achieve permadom? Currently I have it set to auto, but what can you do to make it happen? I assume taking hasten. One of the challenges to this I see is that the domination bar has to fill... are there IOs that achieve this, or is domination something that just naturally builds faster at higher levels?

  3. I’ve been toying with making a dominator - one AT I never really got into - and came up with what I feel is an interesting concept. I want to build a “star” type of character, with magical powers reminiscent of the energies of space.

Primarily, the character’s powers center on the idea of shooting plasma and ionized, charged energies, ultimately channeling the vacuum energy of space itself in order to become highly dense (represented by temp invulnerability for example).

Thing is, I don’t really know where to start when kitting out an elec/energy dom, because I’m not experienced with the AT at all. I didn’t find much info when searching the forum either.

Are there any veterans who can give some recommendations - things to consider when planning out my build? Any recommended builds from those who have played this combo? Any pitfalls to avoid?

I’d really love any advice 😊

Uh. I started on Liberty back on live. I did not even realize it was a dead server.  Redside to boot

i migrated to Freedumb and was invited to a neat community on Virtue named Brickhouse

i abandoned a huge base i had been working 6 months to build on Liberty

i spent a year on Freedumb. i left a smaller base there

look. Server transfers are free. If you dont like where you are i suggest you look at may e Everlasting

my main complaint about Everlasting is when i see a post for a team or TF if i dont jump FAST i will miss getting a spot!  Should the Devs step in and put in a mechanic to split pooulations or slow team building?  Or do we just figure out how to make it work?  (When i start badging in earnest i may even have to lead teams.  Grrrr)

Actually I spent the entire of my time on Liberty when CoH was live. It actually surprises me to hear it was a dead server!

I have the character at 39 now and just did the first major respec. Threw on about 2/3 of its final i/o build. I am liking it. I made the toon. Very weird and the wavy arm thing is just hilariously stupid. Then the race car noises and a crapton of damage.

when i say weird i mean weird. I took a robot using almost the bulkiest pieces i could find. I put a brain in a jar head on it.  I used the Large Body build and then made it as wide as possible in every slider. Then i made it as short as possible on every slider. Oh, it looks odd. Then having it doing its wavy arm madness and knocking enemies down everywhere. Very nice. Of course i proc’d the cone to KD. Threw a lot of winter and brute sets along with unbreakabke guard a 6set Aegis. All the usual procs and globals.  Cost a ton (raided my base and spent everything i earned from 3 synapses lol). I can see at 50 its going to be a beast.  Glad to add it to my stable of odd toons. But i could never take KM on a regular Brute.  Maybe in some weird CoT ripoff melee mage

So in live, I never really used IOs. I fussed around but didn’t really consider sets, set bonuses, or the like. I just put what I though would help on.

This time around, I’m putting a lot of thought into how I’m kitting out this character. Put my first IO set on (I like seeing set bonuses in my personal info tab 😊 ); the whole kinetic combat set on body blow. Hoowee it was a noticeable change and that power hits HARD now.

I’m really loving kinetic melee the more I play it. Actually was playing another character last night but switched back to Safehouse because KM/EA has been too fun to ignore!! It is a shame that it doesn’t get a bit more love.

Basically the Battalion, as described in after sunset AMAs was pretty much stupidly above even our maxed out Incarnate level with all of the Incarnate powers we had, its why we had to resort to essentially dumping a universe eating entity ontop of them in order to defeat them. The fact we would have wiped them out means other slightly less powerful, but still more than a match for our own current power levels, begin coming out of the wood work since the big dog is no longer around to stomp them down the moment they rear their heads.

To paraphrase Positron, we'd all be level 55-60ish when fully Incarnated with the currently planned set of abilities, the Battalion would be basically level 100.

It makes me angry on a visceral level that we never got to see this vision realized.

If you need assistance understanding Peacebringers and how to build them the Peacebringer & Warshade sub-forum is a good place to start. Plenty of knowledgeable people to lend a hand and lots of good information and resources. I have a thread there with numerous PB & WS builds I've created and posted for people to use as templates, each with a rundown of the highlights of each if you were curious about what Peacebringer builds look like.

Funny you mention that because I started snooping around in there just a little bit ago! It’s a bit overwhelming to start but I’m piecing through it! The Mfin warshade and GD Peacebringers threads are really fascinating. Thanks for the recommendation 😃

Hello, this is like the 3rd thread suggesting this.  I play a human only PB and he is very OP. So he doesn't require this change. however i am not against this change, as it wouldn't affect me in any way.

Forgive me that this is not directly related to this thread, but I’m really interested in how you got your human only PB to be OP. I’ve wanted to roll one but don’t even know where to begin haha.

As far as toggle suppression goes - I’m not entirely clear on what this means. If I understand correctly does this mean that when you get out of other forms the toggles you had on beforehand are still on?

Yes! If only I could find the original sounds it had right before it went live. I can't even remember what they sounded like anymore, but I remember liking it and then the sounds changed to the racecar sounds with no explanation and was pushed live not long after.

Easy solution: just pretend that your character is a race car enthusiast! Imagine them running around saying “NYYYYEEEERRRM” and “VRRROOOOOM” whenever they use a skill.

wish I had heard the old sounds though. I wonder what they were like.

  10. I’m glad they have kept going regardless of the ongoing efforts with the CoH private servers. A lot of the world building and stuff that they have done has gotten me invested in getting into the game and city to explore.

The current build of their Avatar Builder was pretty dang fun to use and I was able to build some neat characters that I’ve always had in mind but haven’t been able to build in CoH. It’s not perfect, of course, and I had a lot of suggestions on the CoT forums, but it’s a start.

Its all pretty rough around the edges and it’s clear we’re a ways off still, but the progress I’ve seen has been encouraging.

  11. Personally I’m torn and I can see both sides of the issue. I’ve struggled about taking various power pool powers, because so many builds I’ve read about require things like Combat Jumping, Tough, Weave, etc, in order to optimize.

For instance I would love to be able to take the defensive fighting pool powers, at least, in order to improve my kit, and bring out more of my character’s potential.

But the payoff is that you don’t get to claim all of your powerset powers and I have a weird OCD about wanting all my powerset powers (except maybe confront on my scrapper). If I take more than two pool powers, I end up having to “sacrifice” a powerset power and/or epic powers, and more for each additional pool power that I have to take. I totally get that there has to be some sort of trade off and you can’t just “take all the powers you want.”

Personally I don’t mind the proposal that you be able to take tough without needing to take any of the earlier powers like box and weave. I also don’t have much knowledge about game balance and what kind of havoc that would cause. What if tough wasn’t available until level 14, but it still doesn’t require you to have taken box or kick beforehand? That way early game balance wouldn’t be thrown by having a power like that super early on, but you can grab tough if you want once it becomes available.

For me at this time I guess I’ll prioritize my powerset powers and accept a “less than optimized” build, but sometimes - just sometimes - I’d like to have my cake and eat it too 😆

There is a reason why I started playing on HC last year, Emporer Cole’s dimension was the second place I checked out after the Rogue Isles. The nostalgia of the storylines and tight difficulty there always were a key memory for me, from my time on the live servers.

Same. I started playing CoH with my girlfriend shortly before Going Rogue came out (started at the VERY end of issue 16 as issue 17 was coming out), but I remember it was at Going Rogue that I really hit my stride with CoH. Because of that I always have really fond memories of gold side. It’s too bad the devs never had the chance to flesh it out all the way to 50 (I believe they intended to do that).

Funnily enough I haven’t rolled a Praetorian yet. I’ll have to do that.

Once you get energize and energy drain you'll forgot all about your endurance issues.

Ooo and looking it up I see those powers are the next two to become available to me (28 and 35, respectively). I’m definitely looking forward to that. It’ll be a major help.

  14. Originally, I was going to recreate the highest scrapper I ever had on live - I got Elec/Regen up to level 33. It was a ton of fun, but I created it before Kinetic melee was live and thematically KM felt like a better fit.

So when I fired up homecoming I planned to reroll as a Kinetic/Regen. Spur of the moment I decided “let’s try something different,” and chose instead EA as my secondary.

I am loving Kinetic/Energy Aura. It’s so different from what I had planned but it’s such a blast. Only at level 22 so far, and my only gripe is it feels kind of end starved. I struggled a bit with that while finishing up the last Agent G Faultline mission last night.

Otherwise, what a total ball I’m having!

  15. While I hardly call it game breaking or ruining the experience for me, for sure I can confirm that the insta-snipe is mistimed. It goes off noticeably earlier than the animation/blast fires.

is this just happening for energy blast snipe? Or Is it every ranged set’s snipe that is doing this? Can anyone playing something other than energy blast confirm?

  16. A few ideas I’ve been bandying about in my head:

     - Fleshing out the rest of the incarnate trees. I don’t really know how you would go about it because I don’t know if there were concrete plans for the last couple branches like Omega.

     - I really would love to see new content like Battalion and the Dimensionless that were planned to come after. But again, I don’t really know how that would be done.

     - Alternatively, take things in new directions if you don’t want to worry too much about “what did the devs have planned.”

    - Revamping of some of the zones, like Boomtown. Maybe bring some more storylines into there that might help revitalize them a bit. There are some zones that sit super empty.

    - New powersets and new aesthetics for existing ones. The devs started introducing alternate animations near the end of the game’s life, and I’d like to see that fleshed out a bit more. Stuff like (an example from another thread) shooting beam rifle lasers from your hands.

It's a somewhat obscure movie, but "Real Men" (1987, Jim Belushi, John Ritter), had a few scenes where one of the character makes a gun with their fingers and yells BANG!.... and the target gets shot.

To the original post though, the PPD Hard Suit and PPD Shells do have the wrist mounted firepower already.

Admittedly, I've picked up enough to know that not every NPC move / animation is an easy-peasy port to players.  Horrific Spagetti Code (with a nice vodka sauce....) FTW.

But it might be a decent starting point at least.

Praetorian Clockworks, similarly, have hand blasters and shoulder cannons for their various attacks (I actually have a post I made earlier this week about an idea for a prae clockwork style plasma blast set) and I really enjoy the aesthetics of their attacks.

I agree that it might be good to start by looking into the various factions’ unique animations to see if/how they may be applied to PCs. My illogical, ignorant brain hopes it would be as easy as copy and paste, but logically I know spaghetti code gets in the way often.

I think the devs started experimenting with alternate animations near the end of the game’s lifecycle only because they were just starting to untangle the knots in the pasta, but I could be misremembering.

A character timeline of milestones would be kinda awesome actually

I super like this. It could be almost like what you see on those wikipedia articles for “key dates” in comic book characters’ timelines.

i could definitely see like an alternate tab that highlights “major events” like: “Defeated Veles and crushed a Skulls-run superadyne den in Kings Row,” or “Defeated Frostfire,” or various badge-earning events (“Went on the warpath against the skulls and arrested them in record number” for earning a badge for defeating X number of foes) It would be really neat to look back and see all the ways in which your character has grown and gained notice since starting out.
