Well, having done it twice yesterday, I can confirm that Island Rum is indeed downloading Wineskin instead of Wine. Have you found any work-arounds?

Number 6 has a work around to run 32-Bit by tricking Island Rum into thinking it's running Safe Mode. But I think that means Cider is running 24-Bit, and Cider is what they're trying to get away from.

  2. It's been noted that Epic ATs are the least made toons. But that statistic is misleading because the lack of alternative Primaries and Secondaries leaves little incentive to roll more than one of each AT. With alternate builds and plentiful respecs you don't even need to make more than one to try out different builds.

But what if Peacebringers and Warshades could access each other's sets?

Would Luminous Blast / Umbral Aura or Umbral Blast / Luminous Aura work?

What about Warshade powers with Cosmic Balance or a Peacebringer's with Dark Sustenance?

Hypothetically, if the goal were to create more options for Kehldians you could also recreate the existing sets with other damage types/secondary effects.

How about a Fire Peacebringer, or an Ice Warshade?

    Would this be completely unworkable?

Actually, sadly there IS a reason for it. Hide for Stalkers, for example is required for the AT to even function, if you get the option to skip it, it kind of gimps the AT. I do believe this was tried before but, rather unfortunately, led to major problems and apparently made the game go kind of wonky because it's kind of hard coded into the game (kind of in that the game starts to go funny if you change it, not in the sense that it is unchangeable).

I thought about Stalkers, but then I also thought about how Masterminds aren't forced to take pets which also gimps them. Plus this requirement existed before CoV and Stalkers.

If it's a coding/stability issue then that at least is a strong reason.

  4. Maybe there's reasons for it, but it always sat weird with me that it's one of the few places in the game where you MUST take a specific power. Primaries, Pools and Ancillaries all start with two options to choose. Now, I guess you could argue that when you choose a Secondary set you are also choosing the first power of that set. But it still means that for a lot of sets, you have to take a less than ideal power to get access to the rest of the set.

Defenders are probably the biggest losers here because if you're mixing attacks and support, you don't always need a fast recharging blast that does minor damage as part of your chain.

Invulnerability, Regeneration and Will Power all have Auto powers to start with, and I know some people feel auto powers are skippable in defense sets.

Then there are a few Support sets where the first power is a niche ability that isn't nearly as useful as the shields and heals that are the actual reason you wanted the set.

Is there some strong reason why Secondaries must start with a choice of one out of one?

  5. Lydimaster, I am having the same issues with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 as well.

I suspect Island Rum uses a different process for us, and that's why Choake's fix doesn't apply to El Capitan or earlier.

In an older thread Manga says:

"If you leave both of those (CoH.app and City of Heroes app) out of Applications, Island Rum will ask you to install a Game Client.  It will install Wine if you're using macOS > 10.11, or Wineskin if you're using other macOS.  The Wine install will be in a "wine" folder inside /Applications/coh, and Wineskin will be an app called "CoH.app" in Applications."

When I clear everything and re-run Island Rum, it creates both CoH.app and an empty folder named "coh" in /Applications. The CoH.app has contents in it's package but the coh folder has nothing. This makes me think it's using Wineskin instead of Wine. So updating Wine doesn't solve our issues.

  6. That's basically the same error I get. (I'm OS X El Captian 10.11.6)

I notice that it says Wine build: wine-1.6.2 even though I specifically erased all versions of wine from my computer and installed Wine 1.8.6.

Similar thing happens when I try to run HC Beta Safe Mode from Island Rum, except it gets as far as the loading screen before crashing.

I've also noticed that if I remove the CoH.app and the coh folder, Island Rum will create a coh folder in Applications, and then also create a CoH.app in Applications, but not put anything in the coh folder.

Hello All... I've put together a fairly comprehensive step by step, how to remove our Original Island Rum and CoH installs, how to remove and clean up the homebrew and wine left overs, and provide all the software and steps and terminal commands to have a fully functional and stable 32/64bit running game... AND a side benefit, the BRAND new Mac based HeroDesigner can Truly be opened with a right click open with wine stable... It's very clear plan and step by step.. Hopefully this eases some minds as I DID not want to miss this game again..

I ran this series on 3 seperate High Sierra computers.. 2 Mid 2011's And Airbook and iMac, both work amazingly.. And a Macbook Pro 2015....

I'll attack a short 50sec youtube video of me opening up the new mids, with just that a right click... Enjoy, rock out, and Good hunting

    Thank you for all this.

Unfortunately I followed all this but 64-Bit is still greyed out and when I try to run 32-Bit I get an error message with the attached details.

On the plus side, Mids Herobuilder works which it never has before!

Same issue a lot of people are seeing of the launcher (Island Rum?) apparently passing in a -patchdir parameter to a directory that doesn't exist.

After trying and failing to launch it, do you have an islandrum.sh file somewhere in your COH directory that you can paste the contents of?

Not that I can find. It isn't anywhere in apps/coh/drive_c/Program Files/coh/

The report I posted was found in there in a folder "hc-bin32/backtrace.txt"

  9. I've got a 2007 mac and a 2009 mac (that I bought right before the game came back). I was able to play on both of them until yesterday when I relaunched Island Rum on the 2009 machine and Safe Mode went away. Oddly enough the 2007 still works as I didn't restart Island Rum. So "Safe Mode" still seems to be working, it just isn't accessible.
And i've never been able to make the 32 or 64 versions run. 64 is greyed out and 32 currently has this error:

Oh, and for some reason Island Rum will not let me change the manifest. Click the palm tree, first item on dropdown "Manifest" does nothing. Click it and the drop menu closes. All other items on the menu work fine. I've re-downloaded and reinstalled several times and it still won't work. Island Rum is Build 112420192

  10. I was able to play some yesterday because i had left my computer on and still had Island Rum running. Then I restarted it and now cant access it.

    Specifically this error:

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x002004c0 in 32-bit code (0x0087b288).

I've checked but cannot upgrade my OS beyond El Capitan.

  11. I've heard people say that because the game is +6 years old and was already using older graphics then, that it should be easy to get a computer that can run this game.

But not knowing much about gaming in general, I wonder what specific requirements I need and what kind of models available have everything needed and how much that should cost.

Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive gaming computer/laptop that can run CoH smoothly?

    Thank you.

  12. I'm able to run safe mode on this:

    iMac (20-inch, Early 2009)

Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB

Now, grated... the "Spectrum" costumes just look flat to me and I'm almost always the last to zone when running a TF. But it does work.

  13. It seems like every guide about Kheldians includes 'essential' keybinds that will change forms and adjust the power tray to match the form.

    But... why?

The game already has a mechanic that will pop-up a temporary tray containing the powers appropriate for the forms. Do people really hate that so much that they need an alternative?

I can understand if it's just a preference thing, but it seems so pervasive that I'm wondering if there's some downside to the pop-up power tray that I'm just not seeing.
