General chat existed before lfg existed on retail. On HC they have been around the same length of time. (to my knowledge)

General Chat did not, initially, exist on Homecoming.  It was added specifically to move garbage and off topic chat off of the Help and LFG channels (and to a lesser extent, Broadcast).

Basically, it's *intended* to be a corrosive sewer, one that experienced and/or knowledgeable players can choose to avoid.

The problem is, it was added by default to everyone's chat tabs - meaning that every new player is subjected to it.

Also I'm not going to clutter the options menu with it since there's already too many esoteric things in there, but if you really want shrinking icons combined with power timers, I just added a hidden /tray_always_shrink command. It persists in your account settings so you only have to use it once.

Make sure it goes into the patch notes so it eventually finds its way into the wiki - we don't want it too well hidden...  🙂

That being said, I'm of two minds on the countdown timers.  For my main attack chains (where things recharge in less than 20-30 seconds, often much less) they strike me as somewhat distracting.  But for nukes, buffs, rezzes, and various other things where the recharge can be from 30 seconds to over a minute (or even longer)...  That's where the recharge timer really shines.

But I would hesitate to recommend a hard cutoff wrt to recharge times because that's going to be a very much a YMMV thing.

Because WE play mmos and know about mmos, we think all people do.

No, those of us who are sober don't think such things.  And we wouldn't claim other people think such things either, as we know better.

So yup, CoH could get millions if new players.

If it were that easy...  (which it isn't) Then there wouldn't be any number of MMO's in the ICU on life support.  They'd be enjoying those millions of new players.

So, yeah, whatever you're smoking you shouldn't be driving while under its influence.

I'm thinking that the base as a whole needs to be sunk down further into the RWZ zone space.

I agree the noise is a problem, but overalI I'm not sure about sinking the base deeper...  Right now it's just shallow enough that a super jumper can use the vertical shafts w/o using Double Jump.  Any deeper and only flyers and 'porters will be able to travel unassisted up to the surface.

I can try to be there again. Last time I waited for half an hour but I feel daylight savings tripped me up and I was there one hour late. Instead of 1 AM I'll be there at midnight this time.

I'm currently having problems getting Breakout to load...

Edit:  Yeah, can't get in.  Will try again tomorrow.

This is an incredibly strong character that I have fallen in love with.  Ice Dark Corruptor is great at low levels and coming into 20s picks up steam and starts taking shape.  This will be my main going forward.  I will rant more about its greatness in other threads I am sure.

Well, at least you rescued something...  I should post the pic I took over the weekend.

Edit:  Except you're against a dark background so you hardly stand out.

For the most part, the new folks are lovely.  However, there does seem to be a significantly higher percentage of them who strike me as an AI answer to the request "Design an MMO player as if they were the child of Dunning and Kruger, and then were abandoned by their parents and left to be raised by a pack of 4chan."

I have never played any MMO where there wasn't true.

  9. OK, gonna take another shot at testing teaming before I finish this arc:

Will be online in KR at 1600PST(1900EST), give a shout out in the LFG channel.

This should be quick as I don't think we need to complete the mission.  I just want to test two things:  A) adding a team member, select the mish, and see if we can enter and are properly exemped.  B) adding a team member while I'm in the mish and see if they can enter and are properly exemped.

Meanwhile, Joker's henchmen would be best thought of as pets.

Certainly.  But there's a point where you have sufficient minions that you stop being a Mastermind and start being the commander of a army....  And that point is scaled both by raw numbers as well as by the intelligence, independence, etc... of your pets.  Otherwise, Lord Recluse would be a mastermind as well.

But really, yeah.  As someone said upthread, you can't really map CoH archetypes onto comic book characters.

Would it be possible to have a vanity pet to buy from the P2W vendor that was a herd (say 6) of kittens?  There are lots of cat themed characters that would like their entourage.  In appearance, they could be very similar to the shoulder kitten costume piece, but could use the animations of the beast mastery pets.  Or as an alternate, give the option to make the beast mastery pets look like other animals (including, but not limited to kittens).

It may be possible, but it's not really desirable to add further visual spam to the game.  It's already bad enough with auras, and people's buffs affecting crowds, etc... etc...

Ok one last reply...cause I didn't see this one. The judge "dismissed the claim of infringement with prejudice." That means it can never be brought back to court.

That means that particular claim cannot be brought back before the court.  It does not forestall future claims of infringement.  It does not in any way protect CoH/Homecoming from Marvel filing suit for infringement.

Our created heroes, in 99.9% of cases, will not be for commercial use, so no infringement.

That's... not how it works.  While "commercial use"* is one of the factors to be evaluated in determining Fair Use, not being commercial is not a Get Out Of Jail Free card.

*It's actually way more complicated than that.

I'm curious to know your method of engaging then.  How do you start a combat so that your pet gets the aggro?

I kite them, slowly sliding in until Stoney aggros and initiates combat, then quickly backing off.  (Sometimes first firing a ST hold/immob, sometimes an AOE hold/immob.)   Do it right, and generally at worst I take the Alpha from a minion.  It's an art, not a science.

Almost every build guide promotes choosing sets to get your character, regardless of class, as close to at least the defense soft-cap as possible.

True, because the meta on HC is "throw inf at the problem until it's not a problem any more".  (Usually a self inflicted problem because they insist on running headlong into things at +4/x8.)  The meta is very emphatically not the only way to do things.

  15. For reference, my build isn't optimized for anything in particular and it's largely SO based.

But if you have a tanky pet like Animate Earth, it's hard to get it to actually tank for you because it won't really engage until you put yourself close enough to be at risk.  So unless you have a fully decked out build with sets, good defenses/resistances, and some other tools to survive the initial alpha strike, your pet is rarely taking aggro until it's already too late.

Soloing my earth/rad, I almost never take the full alpha, and the vast majority of the time I do - it's because of a screwup on my part.  (Usually going in too fast and not paying attention to who is in range.)  I only take significant damage maybe once out of every ten to twenty encounters before Stoney pulls 'em off of me.

I do not agree with the proposition that a 'troller needs a specialized defensive build.
