I just made a Stone tanker for the very first time due 100% to this change. Don’t slow me down now for RP reasons 😞

It's easy to be dismissive by saying "LOL RP." It was never an RP thing, it was about strategy. It was about deciding between mobility and durability. That's the whole purpose of the Stone set in general.  When to stand stone fast and when to move.

It was easy enough for me to toggle between Rooted and Sprint when I wanted to run into a group, plant my feet down, get the job done, wash, rinse, and repeat. Now Rooted just kind of feels hollow.

I think I understand why they made the change, to make the set more mobile. But that was never the point of the Stone set. Heck, even if they wanted to make Rooted faster but have the power cost more Endurance per tick, that would have been a fair offset. But they didn't even bother to do that.

Of course, people who have been playing Stone for a while know that they were other ways to get around the movement penalties (except -Jump or -Fly) of Rooted, like Enhancement set bonuses, Fitness, Etc. You could also get Teleport, although some people didn't prefer this for thematics. But if you are not concerned about role-playing, definitely a valid option even before this change.

The animation changes are also not good.  As others have posted, the lessened Rooted visual effect doesn't even draw properly through some of the bigger feet in the costume sets. It also fidgets anytime to character jumps or goes over an elevation change, constantly making the animation noise in the process, making it audibly broken.

If the developers of Homecoming wanted to change a power so drastically, they could have considered renaming i entirely. Instead of Rooted, they could have called it Petrified, Solid, Inflexible, ect. I'd hardly call it Rooted anymore.

Maybe I missed it, but was there a discussion Thread about this change? Admittedly it's been awhile since I've been on the forms. I was definitely more active on the old forums.

  2. I'm probably in the minority here, but the changes to Rooted don't feel good or thematic. It doesn't feel like I'm very rooted. It feels like I'm wearing concrete shoes made of foam. Also, every time I jump, or even go over uneven surface, the animation reloads, and the audio is constantly going off.

Thematically, it's a lot less unique from other Defense sets like Invulnerability or Willpower.

  3. Agreed that it's all in the concept.

My bots/ traps MM is a technical genius with plans to make his robots work so well that they'll eventually be able to take over the jobs of fallible Arachnos soldiers who are susceptible to fatigue, bribery, etc. Sooner or later he'll take Black Scorpion's place at Lord Recluse's side and command the Arachnos army (room for robot RP Arachnos Epic AT), make an army of Archnos soldier bots... and maybe overthrow Recluse himself.

The MM himself is there to support and monitor his creations... and maybe throw a few shots in himself. Of course, tripping up enemies with gas grenades, acid mortars, and caltrops, and somoning a shield generator, never hurt his odds of winning. Some might say it offers the robots an unfair advantage, but it's all in the sake of winning the fight against state enemies and using every advantage at his disposal.

(Really, I'm just using the same concept I had on the old Triumph server, but it's such a great thread that I had to use it again.)

The base Icon/Facemakers lack one thing that is only available in Pocket D or actual tailors - size scalar and gender changing.  Thus, 'just use the base ones' isn't a solid answer, as there are situations where it's flatly impossible to use them for that purpose.  Personal preference would be for allowing us to place the 'full service' versions in bases, but there may be hitches in that that aren't immediately apparent, Cities code being Cities code.

That's a fair point to the base counterargument. Although I could save costumes and save them later, it adds extra work for a guy who just wants to mess around at Icon without having to worry about screaming daemons every 10 seconds if I want to change size or gender for a particular costume slot.

Go to Pocket D and talk to Null the Gull and he can set your alignment to anything you want.

Can the SCORE version of Null really just flip alignment? I'm looking at ParagonWiki but it obviously doesn't list changes made to the SCORE version of the game.

If not, I suggest the OP /petition a GM.

  6. Although I can see the benefit to the argument, I also see badges as a story of a character's journey.

The problem with a global badge system is that it would have to be applied globally to be uniform across the player-base. In addition, it would throw out of balance the system of badges that can actually grant powers and stat bonuses. For example, a level 1 character with the Atlas Medallion could unbalance low-level progression, as easy as that already is with DFBs and rested XP.

That's just a basic example off the top of my head, but empirically I think that there aren't enough merits and definitely issues with making badges global across all players across a server/ account.

Isn't there one in Steel Canyon?

Nope, that's the old Paragon Dance Party, which is just vacant RP space. When Pocket D opened they moved an entrance to KR to make it easier for low levels to get there.

  8. I'd rather they add a new EAT for that instead of messing with my Warshade, for example.

In game design in general, it's a lot harder to change something that's been established than creating something new.

Just make a new Shapeshifting AT. I know the Primalist AT (https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Primalist) was supposed to fill this niche, and although the half-finished version on I24 has been fleshed out on other SCORE servers, it isn't available on Homecoming (yet).

I would remind everyone that they should remain civil and not assume others are intending to ruin anything.

At first glance of my previous post, it may have looked like I was being critical of GM Capocolla, which could hardly be farther from the truth; apologies for not making my criticism clearer.

I just spent 8 mill influence to redress one of my toons and renamed 4 others to generic names. I'm reporting people that I just "FEEL" like are derivative of a character I've seen before. And I've collected Marvel comics for 24+ years...I will recite comic issue and page # when I report people.

First it was character creation and doing mishes, leveling up. Then it wsa BaseBuilding. Then Mission Architect. Just when I thought CoH was out of new things to play this comes along!

We CANNOT take a chance that DC or Marvel or Disney will shut this down! This is for the greater good people!

I figure this is closing the barn door after the horses have bolted, but your characters were fine as-is.

If this is just a protest against the policy, then godspeed, but you may have gone a little overboard in protecting yourself.

It's a shame that Rocketuer would go off the deep end playing the worst game from Office Space:

Enacting a scorched earth policy out of protest probably isn't a wise thing to do. You'd probably get banned for spamming GMs with unnecessary work, unless that's what your goal is.

I liked your characters and concepts. That you've taken such a drastic turn out of what is seemingly spite is disappointing.

2nd Edit: at first glance, it may have looked like I was being critical of GM Capocolla, which could hardly be farther from the truth; apologies for not making my criticism clearer.

You already can't name a character exactly like the trademark character. The game won't let you make "Batman" or "Superman". So I assume it's any variation on that name...."xXBatManXx" would qualify. What about Bat Mon, the jamaican caped crusader that dresses all in black but with dreadlocks? Is that "variant" enough?

It would be nice if they could be more specific but I think anything that could be "construed" as a comic book character that is copywritten or TMd would qualify.

I'd rather not take the chance. I think I've got 4 homage characters that can be randomed. I'll change the global name when I get home as well.

I also have an "imp" character that I tried to make look like the "demon" prestige pet. I'll randomize him as well in case he's too much like some IP character that some company owns.

I just don't want to lose the XP/INF/IOs I've invested in already.

That Bat Mon character would be a parody, and would almost certainly be safe.

Rocketuer might be safe also, if you change the costume (perhaps even the colors) just enough to make it more an homage than a clone.

There's a bit of wiggle room, but even if your character got whacked, it would NOT lose XP/INF/IOs. What happens is that the GM simply resets the character's name and costume. Everything else stays intact, like AT, power choices, enhancements, inventory, etc.

Edit: in fact, unless you get whacked, I'd say it's business as usual. Just roll with your characters, and if they get hit by a GM for being too close to the mark, just make their name and costume a little less close than what you're paying the homage to. It's only if you keep doing the same thing over and over and over that a GM will take more severe action.

Is this immediate? When I get home tonight will my toons be gone?

Oh well...good night rocketeur....It was nice knowing you....Hello xxXXX$moldydood69XXXxx. Welcome to paragon!

Did you confirm that? There's some wiggle room for parody or homage. You may not need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. On the original game, for example, I played for years with a guy named UltraBatz, who was an homage to another famous bat-themed crime fighter.

No, it was not.  It was settled out of court.  That is not the same as being dropped.

That's actually a very important note.

The original suit by Marvel to Cryptic/NCSoft was settled out of court after the parties came to an agreement wherein that they'd work on Marvel Universe Online, a Marvel MMO. When that fell through due to unknown reasons, Crypic bought all the Champions IP and rolled the project into Champions Online.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champions_Online#Development

In essence, the Marvel lawsuit actually created one of CoH's competing MMOs, ironically also developed by Cryptic (before Paragon Studios took over development of COH).
