  1. I have been playing my EM/EnA scrapper to get Accolades and through content to get iThreads... just ran the Heather Townsend Dark Astoria arc at +4/x8 w/bosses, and the only time I was at a risk was when my cat decided to stand in front of the monitor during a big group fight. Use the occasional inspiration during big fights with def-debuff mobs, but otherwise OK.

  2. Hello all,

I am reworking a character concept as a Tanker, and am trying to decide which Primary to go with to best work with Katana... Bio, or Radiation Armor?

Obviously both have their perks, and Katana seems to shore up the S/L defense hole in Bio nicely, but I am unsure which is going to make a more survivable and more damaging pair up.

    Any input would be appreciated.

  3. Hello all.

I am faced with a conundrum! I made and leveled/incarnated a Water/Storm corrupter, and she is a blast to play... but I realized that none of my secondary powers apply Scourge, which is very disappointing as that takes close to half of my regular damaging abilities out of the special corrupter damage mechanic.

So now the question is, should I reroll as a Defender for slightly less damage, but bigger buff and debuff numbers? Anyone have any experience with one or both versions that could give some advice? It would be much appreciated.

  4. I would suggest Savage/Bio.

I have/had a fully done up Savage/WP, and while she was durable and able to handle most content, it just felt underwhelming. Like, it needed something more to really push her into the realm of awesome.

That said, I have a Dark Melee/Bio scrapper and a Bio/SS tanker, and I find that, while certainly much busier of builds, the Bio adds more tools, and certainly more offense to the equation.

Don't get me wrong, the WP will be a very solid, cruise control build that will be extremely resilient... however, that is all it will be. All the damage and control and utility (and "oh sh*t!!" function) has to be bolted on from other sources, whereas the Bio option is going to give you more toys and tools to choose from.

Haha, OK, this version of my build has done a solo no-temps no-inspirations enemies-buffed +4x8 ITF with no deaths. I think it did 280 DPS, but I'm not finding it right now.

After that, I sacrificed some survivability to get to 363 DPS with Divine Avalanche. Chain is Golden Dragonfly -> Gloom -> Soaring Dragon -> Divine Avalanche. This is my current  build. As I recall, the main sacrifices were being weaker to endurance debuffs and drains and to hit debuffs. The plan was to also pick up Ageless Radial, and switch between that and Barrier Core depending on the enemy. I did a little testing on beta that suggested that would do the trick for the enemies the live build had trouble with. But I never got Ageless on live, because I almost immediately rolled a Dark Armor/Martial Arts Tanker, and never looked back. Though now I'm leveling a Shield Defense/Martial Arts Tanker that seemed even better while testing on beta. Anyway, my current Katana/Dark build could probably do the ITF with the same conditions as the other build, though it would be riskier and might take a few tries, but I haven't tried. This is the one I'd build, well, clearly since I did. But if you want max and better proven survivability and are willing to sacrifice 80 DPS to get it, you could go with the first build. But neither are going to be AoE powerhouses, so depending on what you're after, neither build may suit you.

    Thanks @Werner!

Hey there. You may know me as the person who's been posting lists of 50 to 100+ names in this thread for some time now. Well... I'm looking for a name. Not a specific name, mind you, but I'm looking for a certain type of name. I'd like to make a Superman pastiche, something classic, and he'd need a classic-sounding name to boot. Do you have a name like that sitting around, one that you're not using? Hit me up and let's talk!

I have the names Ultrus and Able languishing at the moment, as I have been sidetracked with other concepts.

of those 3 psi/martial would probably be my vote, /em works too. /time is generally outclassed by /plant

Thanks for the reply. I considered /plant, but I have a Dark/Plant already, and I don't want to double up.

  8. Howdy folks,

As the topic title says, I need help deciding whether to make a Blaster or a Dominator for PvP. Will be for mostly 1 on 1 and small team fights, as well as zone stuff when and if the opportunity presents itself.

The choice for me is narrowed down to either a Psi/EM or Psi/Martial or Psi/Time for the blaster, or a Dark/Energy for the Dominator.

Any help on the pros and cons of which to choose is definitely welcome, thanks.

You know, it’s a shame you aren’t getting any feedback, but I suspect that’s because most of the blaster community derides Ninja Training as “crap” among the secondaries.  What you’ve just proved here is that even if it has some issues versus other Blaster secondaries, just about -ANY- blaster builds these days is LIGHT YEARS better than they were back on Live days.  The fact that you are soloing GM’s with an incomplete build should be a testament to both the superlative capabilities of the modern blaster as well as your own play style skills.  So bravo to you.

Honestly, as long as you have a solid ST attack chain, with Disintegrate fully available during same to help boost your damage, everything else is just gravy.  You’ve got softcapped to everything you need defense wise, and it’s hard to build for softcapped Defense -and- high resists both with many builds without gimping your damage, so I’d say you are more than fine there.

Heya, thanks. Yeah, I get the feeling Ninja is the red headed step child of the secondary family, but I made the character for a concept and had to have the Chromium Cutlass available... style over substance, I suppose!

It does work, however, as I was able to add Babbage to my solo list yesterday, and adding the T3 Ageless did help greatly. I think though that I will eventually make different Ageless options depending on what I am planning to do.

As far as an attack chain goes... eh... not so much. I did the Rikti Pylon test (without Lore pets) and it took like 4 minutes, which is not a great speed. I haven't yet figured out what will work best (within the constraints of the build) as this is my first end game blaster I have made. Right now I am kinda playing it by ear until I sort one out.

I definitely see what you are saying about the slot in Aim vs an added slot to boost Stamina recovery. I will take a look at your suggestions later on today when I am on my computer that has Mids.

    Thanks for the advice! 🙂

  10. First post 50 test runs Friday night.

The build wasn't complete, a few IOs missing so the defenses weren't fully done, also only had T3 Musculature Alpha, T1 Assault Hybrid, T3 Radial Storm Elemental Lore, T1 Ion Judgement, no Destiny or Interface to start with.

Stared working on Accolades, finished the Invader one and was going around Sharkhead getting Lore and Explore badge (and killing Mooks for the Gangbuster badge) when I came across Scrapyard. It took a little bit, but I was able to solo him. Endurance was the drawback there, but I was able to get him down after chewing a bunch of blue candies.

Finished off the High Pain Threshold accolade and was able to breeze through the St Martial zone event with the Longbow and the Mooks.

Joined a kill everything +4 ITF after that, and had no issues, even during the ambushes, my health never dropped below half. Did have to eat some inspirations here and there, what with having no heal or stam recharger. But he seemed pretty effective.

Leaving Cimm, I went to Croatoa from the Midnighter lodge, went around to grab the badges and managed to spawn Jack (and Eochai as well, it turned out, but on separate ends of their battle valley). Was able to solo him as well, though the Endurance was the main hindrance.

After the fight I decided to make a T3 Radial Ageless Destiny.

All in all a successful test today, I think. Though I am sure there are more efficient or effective ways to build the character.

  11. Hello folks, I am here looking for some advice, tips or general evaluation of my Beam Rifle/Ninja Training Blaster.

Normally I play Tankers, Brutes and Scrappers, but I decided to level up a blaster and actually play it this time, and this is what I ended up with. I went with the Beam/Ninja combo entirely to fit the concept of a Steampunk Airship Pirate, so I needed some way to get the rifle and the cutlass, and this is what worked.

Anyway, I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to building blasters... leveling up is easy, just get into groups and shoot stuff, but now trying to make a viable reliable end game build is a whole other case of bees.
That said, here is what I -tried- to do:

Soft Cap: Ranged, Smashing/Lethal, Energy and Negative
    Able to Hover and Fly
    Shoot things and do damage
Not use Hasten (I try to avoid it whenever I can and build accordingly)
    Have a decent attack chain (I think i have too many attacks, but I couldn't decide what I didn't need 😛 )

Accomplish the above while using the Musculature Alpha and the Assault Hybrid

Any suggestions or things I missed? Thanks in advance.

I know that the defenses are around 2 points lower while in combat with Shinobi, but I kinda eyeballed that total.

Also not sure which Destiny to go with. I am leaning towards Diamagnetic for the Interface for the extra protection granted by the to hit debuff.

  12. Silly question... when exporting a Mids build to post on these forums, which type of export do I choose? I know vBulletin was the original forum type back on Live, but which is the proper choice for here? Yes, I am a Luddite IRL. Thanks.

  13. I think the player driven difficulty of the game is just fine for the most part, everyone gets to play in their own comfort level, and that is one of the greatest draws of the game compared to most others out there. Also, it is a Superhero (Villain) game, and you should feel Super, especially as you advance.

My solution to those that want more challenge (especially in group settings) would be a revamp of the character challenge settings, make it a pop up window with numerous options, like the Oroboros and TF difficulty/challenge settings, allowing the player to customize everything from difficulty level, team sizes, boss/eb/av spawns, incarnate powers, buffs/debuffs/limitations and so on... and have those choices be applied to any group they are the leader of, as if they were running a TF. People could customize their full personal difficulty as well as their team's difficulty, in every situation, from door missions to surface hunts. And those difficulty settings... beyond the standard +4/x8 AVs, etc... would perhaps give a percentage increase in rewards or reward drop chances, perhaps even a "Hard Mode" version of major badges akin to an MoTF badge, that would give slight benefit to playing at a higher difficulty. And would have zero impact on those that don't want to play at a "harder" level.
