  1. I'm currently getting familiar with Rad Armor on a tank. So far it's been a lot of fun, I'm sure SS/Rad will be great! Both rad melee and rad armor were well done.

How long does it take to get purples? I have now idea these days. That build was the culmination of lots of years of game play and tinkering. It was just the last iteration of an evolution that picked up and changed out purples along the way. It's a fresh market so supply could be difficult there. There's always hero merits. Just depends on the time you have to invest I suppose.

  2. Sorry for the delay. Here you go.

[edit] This puts him at the defense cap for S/L, running perma-hasten (167.5% recharge), and a fair amount of accuracy bonus.

  3. They've said the only way they can do this right now is by hand. Which I assume means having to re-create your character on their side with all the powers, influence, recipes and items that character has. And then maybe deleting the original. Sounds like a lot of work on their part.

Maybe they could offer a one time move (1 max) within a certain time frame for those who started on the first 2 servers who would like to help balance the load by moving. But even that could be time consuming for them.

  4. Balance issues, more than likely. But back in the day, some people wanted it so that you could pick across powersets within the Archetype primary/secondary. For example, if you were a tanker, you could pick your tier 1 power from Stone Armor, and then pick your tier 2 power from Ice Armor, etc. And interesting idea, but probably just as problematic.

That I'd like, i've always wanted to see an "Elemental" mage type having a mix of fire, ice, water, earth etc

Also can't remember who said it wasn't but Sent is 100% a score creation.

Even that could get overpowered. Sticking with the Tank example, opening up power selection across the tier levels you could have this:

Tier 1: [bio] Hardened Carapace – +Res(Lethal, Smash, Toxic, Disorient, Sleep), +Regen

Tier 2: [Elec] Lightning Field – PBAoE DoT(Energy), Foe -End

Tier 3: [bio] Environmental Modification – Self Toggle, +Res(Hold, Knockdown, Immobilize), +Def(Energy, Negative, Fire, Cold, Psionic)

Tier 4: [stone] Mud Pots – PBAoE, DoT(Fire), Foe Immobilize, -SPD

Tier 5: [Rad] Radiation Therapy – PBAoE, Minor DMG(Energy), Minor DoT(Toxic), Foe -Regen, Self +HP

Tier 6: [bio] DNA Siphon – Click, PBAoE Minor DMG(Lethal/Toxic) Foe -Regen, Taunt, Self +HP, +End

Tier 7: [inv] Invincibility – Toggle: PBAoE, Foe Taunt, Self +DEF(All DMG but Psionics), +To Hit

Tier 8: [shield] Shield Charge – PBAoE, Superior DMG(Smash), Foe Knockdown

Tier 9: [bio] Parasitic Aura – PBAoE, Self +Absorb, +Regeneration, +Recovery, Foe -DMG, -Speed, -Recharge

So not only would I have some enviable survival in defense and some resistance, but I'd have 6 PBAoEs to melt through most mobs groups while debuffing them in multiple ways (as they buffed me in return). It would be overkill. And it only took me 10 minutes to look through the power sets to come up with this. I'm sure someone could make something even crazier.

  5. Back in the day my main was a SS/Elec Brute. He was insanely durable. I had a very solid end game build for him, with capped S/L defense and perma-hasten. I'm pretty sure I skipped the tier 9 power in favor of more attacks from Fire Mastery. Ended up having some decent AoE with those 3 sets. I'll post the build when I get home if you like.

As for /Rad, I'm only just now playing around with it so I can't tell you which would be better.

  6. When you look around in the forums and in game, who are you missing from the old community? Who would you like to see come back and join this reformed community?

For me, I'd love to see player Arcanaville and developer Castle come back. I'd LOVE to see what they'd do with full access to the source code and no restrictions for what they could do!

I've been waiting to see if Arcanaville would pop back up. Also somewhat scared/entertained by the idea that Durakken could return. There's others who's names elude me but I remember their avatars. Someone with an aardvark standing on its hind legs.

  7. CTRL+Q "beginchat /bind Q target_custom_next enemy alive "

This bind will set Q to target a specific named enemy.  Notice the space before the end quotes.  Your quote marks seem oddly placed.

Remember that the target needs to be the name, not the rank... specific vs. general.

Heh, figured out the command this morning during some pre-work play. But thank you none the less. Also, interesting stuff with that "+" command stuff. Gonna have to use it.

  8. Why not just go totally freeform, throw ALL of the powersets into one giant pool and let us pick any primary + any secondary...? <EG>

  9. Anyone know if there are base window options that will let you look out into the skybox? Otherwise, what's the point of being able to select a skybox?

I'm working on a fun way of creating that illusion. I'll post pics if I figure something out.

  10. I have no expectations of this however; the Homecoming team has enough on their plate without attempting to add new features.

Agreed.  Currently stability, both electronically and legally, are of the top-most concerns at this point, and should be.  Modification of the system can start being planned once they can keep the servers afloat without 2000 man queues.

If only had I acknowledged that and clarified this was down the road wishful thinking. Oh wait...

Let me preface this with the fact that I know not to expect too much anytime soon considering the limited resources the dev team are working with. I'm grateful to even be playing again, and pretty much all I'm doing here is entertaining a hope for down the road.

Lighten up, entertain fun ideas. It's not the worst thing to be doing on the forums.

  11. Well, I'm assuming Cryptic didn't intend for you to constantly outlevel contacts and storylines. ;)  I do remember running into that issue with characters that teamed a lot while leveling, but not so much with more solo characters. Granted, 2004 was a long time ago, so I could be misremembering. In any case, the current XP boosts make things a lot worse in that regard.

I can understand for you it's frustrating. Having a whole server that has no 2xXP doesn't sound like the answer for your problem though. Which server from the limited selection we have? What about the people that already have toons they'd like to get 2xXP for that are on that server? Why withhold 2xXP for 25% of the toons out there when those who would prefer not to have it would most likely be a much smaller population? While it might be a minor annoyance for you to turn off XP gain here and there so you don't out-level content, it would seem more burdensome to force the other route for so many others.

  12. There may not be a lot of support for this, but I'd appreciate it if there was at least one shard that didn't have all this accelerated XP, or at least had a mechanism to opt out. And no, turning off XP gain isn't the same thing. I want to level my character, I just hate outleveling contacts and content. Laughable or not, some of us do want to experience or re-experience that, even some that played for 8 years. I'd love to be able to level at the intended rate.

Uhh... what's the "intended rate"? As far as I can remember, it was nearly impossible not to out-level content and contacts even at regular XP. I think it's only possible to stay within that range (especially at low levels) is by turning of XP (before you out level content) until your done with that content.

  13. Zone and mission maps for all servers run all together in the same hardware (the ones described as "mapserver hosts"); so there's no such thing as running AE for "just one server" without affecting the rest. The AE farms trigger a lot of ambushes or AI-enabled patrols which use a lot of CPU power and cause increase lag and instability for everyone.

The goal here is to get the servers to a point where they don't need a restart every few hours.

I wondered if tons of AE maps with all their ridiculous spawn numbers would be an issue for the servers. I figured that's why the XP nerf came through. Makes a lot of sense.

As for transfers. Would you be willing to consider a temporary period for doing them. Say, give people a few days or a week to ask for one, and then you do the manual transfers as you can. With the new servers, I can see how helpful it would be to move over for more consistent server stability. But some of us won't get to play as much while 2.5xXP is available so might not be enticed enough to make a move. Just food for thought.

Thanks for all the hard work you guys!

  14. I wonder if Bases is a big enough topic to eventually need its own subforum. Or at least a stickied thread. I spent a good many hours... er, days... building and rebuilding SG bases. For those of us who just love the creative possibilities it provides, there's plenty of tip, tricks and photos that are going to be coming.

  15. I really want to help out if I can. Will there be "Server kits" that will allow volunteers to host a server? On a related note, if character data still exists from the old NCSoft servers, can said volunteers basically load all the data from one of those servers, making, for example, "Liberty Reincarnated" and so on, so old players could log in and use their old characters (Assuming there's some way for old players to link their new accounts to the data from their old one?)

It would be great if they could let others host and network with them. Not sure how viable that would be as far as keeping expected standards the same. That stuff is way out of my league, but I would think there could be security concerns, but what do I know.

As for reviving old data from the NCSoft accounts, I'm pretty sure that's a huge legal no-no that would upset a lot of parties. NCSoft. People who don't want their data out there. That info probably needs to stay lost.

  16. ...I’m not sure I almost feel like if I get a taste of this for a month or two and then it’s taken away again that’s going to be a lot worse than to have not had it at all...

Nah, you've lost it once and lived, a second time won't be as bad. At least right now you're appreciating it more than you did before (I assume).

Given that independent servers will rise up should these servers be taken down at least softens the blow. With any luck, someone will make a way to export what characters we've worked on so we can take them to independent servers. Then we won't have to worry about it.

  17. I wouldn't bother following the build you posted. As mentioned, that's a late game build and won't be as fun to play while you're leveling. Not only are IO sets something you won't bother with until later, but you'll be hard pressed to even find all the sets in that build anytime too soon, since the supply side of the market is going to be scarce with the servers being so fresh.

I would recommend not picking up Hasten until after you pick up Consume. Hasten has an endurance crash when it expires and in the early levels, Endurance management is a rougher. I would consider at least one more attack power by in the first 10 levels.

Since you're this new to the game, I'd recommend picking up all primary and secondary powers you can (grab a travel power from the P2W vendor in Atlas, then pick up one from the Pool Power options in your teens) and get a good feel for them. There's way too much to learn in this game to try and have a "perfect build" right out the gate. My first time through I made a character I knew nothing about, learned how the powers worked in play, and after seeing how they played out started to learn all the mechanics around them. Learning about resistance/defense caps and bonuses and all of that will be overwhelming. Better to go in with no expectations and think your powerful, and then keep getting more powerful as you learn.

    • Thumbs Down 1
  18. I look at it this way:

I expected after I24 Beta was out, that there would be an I24. I expected the game would be there for me to play for some time to come. It wasn't, and one of my most favorite games was gone and that left me sad and a bit pissy.

I never had any expectations of playing CoH again, and now my happiness level is through the roof since Homecoming's launch. So I'm going to keep NOT expecting anything, and just be damn grateful for however long this is possible.

There's no guarantees, and we'll all be better off accepting that and still enjoying what we have.

  19. Looks like I owe some people an apology; that Knockback-to-Knockdown IO is part of the Universal Damage category. Since Hand Clap doesn't do damage, you can't put it in Hand Clap. That's my bad.

There's a new "i25" Knockback set that has a Knockback-to-Knockdown enhancement in it, though!  I saw it at the Merit Vendor.

Guys, I'm in a fragile place right now. This rollercoaster has put me through the loops. Is there truly a KB2KD enhancement out there? I don't think I can have my feelings played with again.

    • Haha 1
  20. Go here:

The Black Spectre's City of Heroes Site

I think what you're looking for is under "Black Spectre's Binds." Lots of goodies.

    Specific stuff, too.

Thanks! I'll add that to my list of sources. After looking through it, I'm not seeing the set up I'm trying to make. I'm trying to make it so that the first key command lets me type in the name I want to target, and the second key command does the targeting.

Here's an example of what I've tried, but I've gotten arg errors that I can't figure out:

    /bind shift+l "start_chat /bind shift+t "target_custom

So I would hit shift+l, type in the target name and hit enter, and then use shift+t to target that name I typed in.
