I don't think flags are a big deal for me but more costume items is always good. I don't know which other server this was on but they had some cool new pieces including wings that are just under the arms. Those looked great.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: imagine how awesome this game would be if the various CoH server devs combined. People. What can ya do?!

I don't know, the others do interesting things they feel they want to do and it means players have a variety of flavours to choose from. Don't like one, try a different one. It might be just your cup of tea.

  2. Certain things make me nauseous and give me migraines. Usually it's because it causes a disconnect between my eyes and inner ear. Being on a boat or plane does it. I have to have a window seat so I can see outside, or go on deck so I can see the water so the signals match then it goes away. Games, I can't play first person at all. Ten minutes and I'm throwing up and need a lie down in a dark room for a few hours.  The camera shake on CoX does it, as does speed boost in tight places. Council maps and purple caves can make me feel queasy. I can't say I've experienced any teams with hurricane so I can't comment on how it affects me, but the weirdest things can trigger an adverse reaction in the brain and it's totally valid to want to avoid it.

  3. I avoid any spoilers until stuff reaches open Beta. Sometimes as a GM I see stuff I'd prefer not to, but it's still exciting 🙂

As a player (and bear in mind I have no contact with the devs or the dev teams outside of dealing with current issues I need advice on so don't have a clue what they are working on) I'd love to see more costume options, especially things like more animal heads and the ability to use national flags. It's sad that a patriotic alt can't have their national flag available as a chest piece or a shield decoration or a cape. Then again I suppose there are so many different flags out there the big ones would be available but then you'd get someone complaining their small island nation got missed off. You can kind of fudge some flags, but for those of us rubbish at creating costumes it would be nice to have them as a drop down option

Mind you, I for one am fully behind RuPaul's Drag Race - Paragon City.

I mean, they've done everywhere else...

Great mind think alike. One of the first toons I remade back from live is a drag queen who won the first series of RuPauls Drag Race Superhero!!

  5. Penny is probably the closest thing the game has to a Phoenix level entity. Her telepathy is off the charts and her telekinesis is limited only by her imagination. Imagine what she would be like if she became an Incarnate. I think even the Battalion would find her a handful. And she's barely an adult. I dread to think what she will be like as a fully grown woman experienced in her abilities.

And it's nice to see Signature heroes actually showing why they are signature. Occasionally you'll see them in action like Ms. Liberty and Manticore and Penny, but most times they are being held prisoner by an enemy they should realistically swat like bugs. At least someone like Lady Jane has a realistic chance of dying once you rescue her.

Cipher is on it. Something technical I didn't understand a word of involving the people who host our servers, but apparently it's more an annoying glitch than a catastrophe

  7. Fun thread, but just a reminder to newer players. Any copies of characters name/bio/ costume will at some point come to our attention and with a wave of our super cosmic powers you'll find yourself naked, nameless and with no memory of who you are 😛

But I agree, most named characters are not easily copied. Power creep in comics is massive and annoying. Superman started with laser eyes, super strength and super jump. Mutants in the X-Men comics had one basic ability which they used in interesting ways, but suddenly secondary mutation became a thing, everyone became an Omega level mutant, and the only thing that stopped them taking over the world and enslaving humanity was "reasons".

  8. Please keep this discussion civil. Everyone has a right to an opinion, and they also have a right to have that opinion differ from other peoples. I'm sure a lot of the different opinions will change for better or worse once the show is released, but that will also be a personal opinion. Myself I love the movie Howard the Duck, but I can also understand if you think it's the worst movie ever made and that I'm bonkers 🙂

The story there was that one of the devs snuck the source code to a prolific community member just after Live shut down. Said player then spun up the game as a private, invite-only server, which was kept mostly under wraps for about 6 years.

Then a bunch of STUFF happened, the server was revealed, and the guy released the source code for anyone who wanted to make their own server. Cipher was one such person, and was one of the first people to get a stable service up and running for more than a few weeks.

I'm being vague and not naming names because it was and still is a huge source of DRAAAMAAAA so the less said the better.

That said I'd be supersuprised if none of the live devs didn't play here or weren't involved in some capacity.

Reasonably accurate, especially the whole drama thing. People seemed to be highly offended they weren't invited to play, as if it was a personal slight against them. The reality of course is that it was secret because they were trying to keep it alive and didn't want NCSoft closing them down.

As for original devs and moderators, I personally haven't seen any, or had someone reveal that they were, but it doesn't mean they aren't about. I'd love it if some of them were . I met War Witch at a convention once and she was awesome.

  10. Yellow names are the Homecoming admin team. They do all the day to day running of stuff, some do maintenance, others do more backend stuff. The devs do what devs do, I assume it involves cake, pizza and screaming along the lines of "Why won't it work?? It worked earlier, why won't it work now?? And now it's working why is that broken??" repeatedly.

Green names are associate admins who do important work like hosting the wiki, maintaining and updating the Mac client, helping players with quite technical questions, and generally being on the side of the Admin tree rather than inside it.

Orange are Leads, who are GM's with more responsibilities who are generally the final arbiters when it comes to disputes, then you have the day to day GM's like me And Impervium. We hang around, chatting, doing tickets, pulling Amy out of rocks, that kind of thing. We try to give good advice to players, but sometimes we get it wrong and players take great delight in pointing that out. "You said it gave +5% accuracy, but I think you'll find it's actually +5.25%...." 🙂

There is a lot of overlap, so it's not like this Dev is only involved in costumes and that Dev is only involved in power proliferation. They have their areas of expertise but it's a team effort and a lot of stuff is a collaboration.

As for DMing anyone, if you have a ticket reply off a GM and you want to discuss it then please feel free to do so. Otherwise pop it in a ticket. We do look at them all and will pass them upwards to the relevant person if need be. DMing anyone not in the actual GM team will probably not get a reply.

As for roles and identity, some people like to do their thing in peace and quiet and anonymity . Others enjoy interacting on discord or the forum. It's just a personal choice and they may well be lurking in game or on here in their player accounts.

And considering that up until recently I was the main GM responding to tickets, I'm sad nobody mentioned me 😞

    😂

Glad to hear it. I would have follow-up questions, but I don't want to risk derailing this thread. I seriously appreciate the reply. I was hoping that last point wouldn't be ignored. 😄

You can always DM me on discord. I can't promise to answer your questions, but if I know or am allowed I can try. Some things I truly don't know, other things I'm obviously not allowed to say, but if I know the answer I'm happy to clarify any queries you might have. Things you brought up in your post like microtransactions, we feel the same way and it's not even on our radar. The other stuff is pretty much where we would like to go. New content, continuity etc. The name thing is harder due to the way the game stores stuff in the database, but please pay me. I have dogs who need feeding 🙂. Seriously, we all do this for the love of the game and our respect for players. Helping as a GM has been a privilege for the last nearly 2 years and is still as satisfying now as the day I started

    • Some kind of assurance or promise to try and play neutral ground in an increasingly politicized and polarized landscape. I know this is a touchy subject for many, but I hope I speak for many of us when I say I come to this game to escape and create, not tackle the issues of the day. Obviously its a careful balance, because you want newer stories to be relevant to new audiences, and you want to be accepting to as many as you can. But just as the game has a firm "Teen" rating, I'd like any legit service to have a firm commitment to not playing political hockey with our IP for likes or press. I grow ever wearier of that in the general pop culture milieu and am frankly sick of seeing some of my favorite IPs be consumed, diluted or mutilated by companies trying to make a quick buck off the "culture wars". I understand some will see this last point as a dog whistle or what have you, but I really do just want some place where I can chill and make heroes with minimal fuss. Lord knows there's plenty to fuss about IRL.

We are very firm in the neutral ground area. Politics and "flavour of the day" stuff is very much out of bounds as far as possible. Sometimes we don't get it right, but we try for inclusivity no matter the race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, political opinions etc. I honestly can't see that changing, we are a multinational team from all corners of the world and one countries hot button topic is another countries "meh". I'm sure Americans don't care about a minor British scandal, or an Australian election problem any more than we non Americans care about a particular politician or scandal dominating the landscape over there. It may be relevant to you in real life, but not in this game.
