The Internet Archive also has the PDF - https://archive.org/details/City_of_Heroes_Prima/  as well as one for City of Villains - https://archive.org/details/City_of_Villains_Prima

But please remember that all of the information in these guides are terribly outdated and always think twice about clicking any links, even those posted by GMs!

Wait, so those links you sent me are unsafe??? I only wanted cute cat memes!! Not cute cat-girl memes!!

  2. I've said it before over the years, but it's worth repeating. some things that seem to be so simple are an absolute nightmare to implement. The code is twisted and complicated, and so many times a minor change will result in major problems. "I only changed the colour of those trees, why did city hall vanish?" kind of problems. There are a lot of suggestions that have been implemented, but we are a volunteer group of people doing stuff in our spare time. One dev might be passionate about costume parts, another might be brilliant at stories. Another might love redoing zones. We gain devs, we lose devs. If a particular suggestion resonates and they go "I love that idea" they will look into it and decide if it's even possible. Then how much work is needed to implement. Then that dev leaves because real life gets in the way and it's another project on the back burner.

To be honest I'm always in awe when a new page comes out for the sheer amount of work a small group of people have been able to pull together. Most legacy games are frozen in amber. Maybe some bugs are fixed if you are lucky, but there are few that have the level of skill and dedication that we do.

I love reading peoples suggestions, and a lot of them are interesting and clever. But we aren't a multi million dollar enterprise with unlimited resources and hundreds of staff to spend months on implementing ideas. We are a volunteer group that does what we can because of the love we have for the game and the willingness to spend a lot of our free time working on something that is really time intensive.

For today's Mission Architect Sunday Special, we ran:

@Leese's Through Rose-Tinted Glasses (#22) "Heroic" misidentified villainy!

The small team worked a masterful scheme and we had a good time.  Unfortunately, we ran into the dreaded glowie in the wall.

This would have never happened to Manticore.  Thankfully, @GM Crumpet was on the scene to help us.

    NEXT TIME...

MASS returns to Reunion on September 21st.

A pleasure. Shame it had to end that way. As I said ingame, when you finish leave a note in the box for the mission creator so they can move the glowie

Well, I think @Yomo Kimyata will still give some amount once to a @Global.

And at one point I seem to recall @GM Crumpet saying the same thing.

I wouldn't depend on it, but if you ask for help on the /help channel you sometimes get it.

I've been known to help someone out that asks in /help.

If you are trying to get enough loot to fully slot out a power-leveled/door-sitting main or alt,  ... well ... as far as I'm concerned ... you can forget about it.

Hey, don't bring me into this. I'm a broke GM I have around 200 inf total

I have an AMD Radeon RX 580 and I'm getting the black screen at login as well, and turning off Freesync and disabling hardware acceleration in the launcher doesn't fix anything. I use a multi-monitor setup and the issue persists even when I switch the game to monitor 1.  Any ideas as to a solution would be appreciated, I hope I don't have to wait for an update to correct this! 🙂

It's a known dual monitor thing. Just open the options in the launcher and click reset graphics on next run, and make sure it's set to the correct monitor. Happens to me all the time. Usually closing the second monitor first works, but sometimes it has it's moments and forgets which one is primary. Being a GM I'll open a second instance when someone needs help and park my player alt somewhere safe, Then even though I closed the GM screen after I'm done next time I log in it decides to be annoying.

  6. Hami are good for filling in holes where you don't really need sets, but sets give bonuses the more of a set you have in a power. for some power sets you have to fudge and do some frankenslotting to get the bonuses you want though. Things like recharge rate can make a powerful power like Phantom Army or light form "permanent" meaning they recharge before the power runs out so you can basically keep them up all the time. If you get the set attuned you basically don't need to worry about them losing effectiveness as you level, or if you do a lower level TF or missions. They always act as your level (or the min/max level range they work at).

Lots of powers benefit from set bonuses, even if it's only something like damage bonus or defence or resist. It's surprising how awesome your character can become with the right set bonuses. That's why Mids is so popular. with set IO's being so much cheaper than live you can have any build you like for a comparatively cheap price. For a given value of cheap. for a new player 20 million inf is an inconceivable amount of inf. for a player who's been playing for a while it's back of the sofa change 🙂

ATOs and Winter Sets are always attuned.  You can't get a non-attuned one.  The catalyst makes them superior.  Unless you mean you buy them Superior, but then you can't slot them until 50.

For most procs and globals, the level doesn't matter.  They'll do that same thing at level 10 as level 50 as level 50+5 EXCEPT if that proc has something else it does, like the LoTG +7.5 ALSO has a bit of defense enhancement and level and +5ing does improve that portion of it.  If you get it attuned, you can slot it early and have the defense scale up as you level and then switch to +5 at 50 and donate the attuned to your next project, or just leave it.

I just use the attuned menu. I've bought too many recipes by accident

  8. I always buy set enhancements attuned as they are the same price as level based ones in the AH and it means I never have to worry about them again. Purple sets are different and benefit from boosters, but I'm not overly bothered so generally buy them attuned as well. I even get Winter sets and ATO attuned so I don't have to fret over using a catalyst to turn them into the superior version when I hit level 50.

Is there a way to have all the badges, achievements, bonus powers, etc. work on the Homecoming account from the original CoH.  I had all my characters carried over pre-Homecoming in the previous servers and I'm trying homecoming now.  Is there a way for the anniversary badges, special powers that are automatic on new characters, etc. to carry over when creating characters on Homecoming?  I played CoH from day one all the way to the end and then played it again when I discovered and was invited to the "special" server.  I'm on Homecoming now and it kind of hurts a bit to think it's as if I'm a brand new player with no history in the game.  I know characters can't carry over so not asking for that.

All that data is lost, and even a saved copy won't transfer over I'm afraid.

Pretty sure the BAF Prisoner phase is a very special sub game.  Do not conflate the Devs getting rid of ATs signature abilities with the real goal of making the (trial they inherited) work.  The prisoners are on a track, and their logic is very simple.  If you repelled them whole new bundles of code would need to be added.  They are very specifically affected by certain things, not so much by anything else.  Maybe that means the Devs hate signature abilities of ATs.  Hmmm, or, possible, it means they hate all players!  It is a trap, a Nemesis plot!  We are doomed to fail!

Darn it!! You rumbled us. We'd have got away with it too if it wasn't for those darned vampires!

Triganic Pu sounds like what happens after BaBs eats at Taco Bell….

There are 8 ningi's to one pu. But as a ningi is a triangular coin 100 miles along each edge nobody has ever made enough to earn one pu. Nobody uses Ningi's as the banks refuse to deal in piddling small change

    Hi,

My Window laptop was recently updated and it disrupted all of my curated display settings from nigh on 15+ years of playing this game.

... Honestly, they weren't so curated, probably just tweaked defaults. The update maximized my resolution and I hate it. Everything is small, particularly annoying is the chat box and power trays. I'm a mouse-clicker, and now all of my powers are smaller - It isn't optimal.

I'm not sure how to even begin this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

    Chris

In the Homecoming options you can click reset graphics on next run then tweak your settings to where you want them
