  1. FYI, I got Waterpark. I feel like I have no clue how that wasn't taken. I checked and wasn't surprised to see Waterslide already was taken. Sometimes you get an obvious name, sometimes you don't.

I really hope you find Waterslide and get to team up with them.  That is 100% a comic I would read, based on names alone.

  2. Yeah, you have to be quick to get obvious names in any game, but I was pleasantly surprised that I managed to get both of mine without issue on the server that I wanted.

Randomly, somebody else had already taken Pink Champagne on one of the servers (which isn't a massively common name, I think?) so I just hopped on to another and made him there.  ;D

  3. Any build you don't enjoy is the worst build.

This would be my take on it, honestly.

One of the fascinating things about CoH is that I've seen people successfully playing every single combo of powers.  There may be some that do better/worse in certain scenarios, but nothing is completely unplayable.  Even Turtle Man had fun and he didn't take any powers at all.  ;)

  4. I'm going to be burned at the stake for this, but I believe City of Heroes is not a well made game. It is, however, radiant in that fact.

This gave me a smile. I mean, I absolutely agree, but this is the best way I've ever seen it worded.

IMO, I think it's this: CoX doesn't just let you make a hero, it makes it EASY to make a hero. I don't think I've ever made an unplayable character in this game, even with sets I don't really like.  I've played other games (especially other MMOs at the time CoH came out) that actually made it possible- even easy- to completely bork your character to the point where only an expensive respec could save it. It's also a rare gem in that you can make an amazing looking character right from level one, which gives the player instant investment in what happens to that character.  ;)

And then, when you have your character?  CoX is the first and only MMO I've played that feels like it takes place in a real city, which is the perfect backdrop for the game and every story arc feels like your own little comic book.  You can dive deep into the lore or just skim over it, but you feel like a part of the world right from the get-go, rather than just a faceless minion who never gets credit for all the amazing things you do (a complaint that I am unashamedly directing at WoW.)

CoX really only has one competitor when it comes to making an actual super hero in an MMO, and the other game may be a bit shinier but it somehow missed the mark when you actually got into the game, which is why I was never tempted to pay out for a free-form slot.  I was subbed to CoX right up until close, though.

  5. straight CIS people

For the record, 'cis' isn't an acronym, any more than 'trans' is. It's literally the opposite of trans in Latin. 'Trans' means 'across, on the other side from, opposite of', and 'cis' means 'the same, this side of'.

100% correct. There's no need to put 'cis' in all capitals, it's fine just as cis or Cis depending on your preference.  :)

  6. There is no limit to what we can make (other than the limited number of items in the costume creator, of course...  ;) )

I haven't seen the Power Rangers in game yet, but I've seen some amazing Dragon Ball Z toons.

  7. Happy Pride, friend.  ;D

My early time in CoH actually helped me learn about who I was and helped me to come out.  I (literally) wouldn't be the man I am today without the lovely community on live.

As for Pride in Paragon and the Rogue Isles... I gotta say that would be quite a sight!  ;)

  8. To date, there have been two Dynamistress novels, with a third on the way. I'd love to translate these into graphic novels, but lacking a talented artist, I'll just have to live with good ol' words without pics.

Dyna's story is not that of a typical character. There is no "nemesis," save perhaps herself. Overall, it's a story of a woman who becomes a "hero" for all the wrong reasons (i.e., fame, etc.) and who, over time, comes to become a "real" hero.

Lots of other characters, some adapted from COH characters (with their players' permission), and plenty of originals, too.  Feel free to check out her website. LOTS of art and whatnot, including a comic strip (showing the funny side of a serious character).

    Ooh, looks like fun!

I wrote a (very unpublished) novel about one of my mains, and it's currently getting a massive re-work because I am no longer an angsty teen. ;)  I've been using CoH as a place to play with character ideas, so who knows which of my characters will end up hitting the page.

  9. DfB does happen a lot here, but it is far from the only content that people are playing.  On any given day at log-in I can find multiple groups (at multiple levels) running TFs or looking for Radio/Paper missions as well as doing missions.  Sometimes it's a struggle to find a place because so many people are looking to join, but if you start your own it's not that hard to fill spots.  ;)

  10. Is it madness? I just can't think of one that fits the concept of my gunslinger Thugs/Traps MM. Ideally he'd have a horse, or at most a motorcycle...

If you can stand spending the time to get places, then it will be fine. You can always give a shout in general if you need help getting somewhere- a fair few folks have teleport powers or other group transport abilities and will be able to help you out.

  11. (I accidentally posted this in General Discussion, so I'm re-posting it here!)

I'm sure there used to be a site or page somewhere that had good advice for building defenders.  I used to have it bookmarked but that was 2012...  ;)

Anybody know a good resource for making sure I have my emp/rad slotted properly? I'm not doing badly (that I know of) but I'd like to have a point of reference and I'm having difficulty tracking anything down.

  13. Hi,

I'm trying to do the Agent G missions in Faultline, and I got stuck at 'find the 1st Ruin' so I auto-completed it.... and I can't find the second one either. The mission marker is actually off the edge of the map.

I'm guessing these are underground, but I can't find the way into whatever area they are set in.

    Any advice or directions? ;)

Overall, entire thread just feels like a bunch of people shitting on what I enjoy and came to play. I know it ain't, but man, a whole thread of people complaining about empaths and healers is really a downer.

I wouldn't worry- there will always be groups who want emps and who appreciate the time people put into good healing and buffs. Threads like this one used to pop up now and then on the live forums too, but it's very telling that healing powers were never massively altered or removed from the game.  ;)  People enjoy it, and the majority of players don't have an issue with it.

Give it a while, and we'll also get threads about bad tanks, arguments about MM pets, people complaining about side-swapping, and pretty much everything else.  Because sometimes people get frustrated and need to vent after a bad experience, and sometimes people just don't like letting others play the game in ways that differ to what they would do. (Case in point- that massive thread about 'kill stealing.')

  15. So, on live one of my 2 mains was an emp/rad (and of course I've re-made him.)

One thing I've noticed is that emps are in high demand up to about level 40, and then other powersets don't need healing at all and the demand drops off. It took me an age to level to 50 on live because emps were basically unwelcome on high level teams.

Having said that, I cannot for the life of me understand not taking anything but emp powers (outside of RP, which is something I know very little about).  I've certainly been in groups where most of my time is spent frantically healing apparently suicidal blasters or that one lovely tank who pulls an entire room without telling anybody where they are going, but on the whole those are rare.  If I didn't have my secondary power set, I'd be bored out of my mind!  ???
