    That's understandable; nobody likes to feel attacked. I guess it's not what people say but how they say it.

    I'm a whole lot more like Solomon Kane than Ghandi in temperament so I really had to learn how to reel in my tone.

    (I still fail pretty bad at times) Just wanted to chill things down a bit and not ruin this mans welcome home post.

    Seriously though...why can't folks just *hear* what new players are saying? It feels like you go out of your way to make them feel unwelcome at times.

    If you wanted to play alone in your sandbox then why spread the word that CoH is back?

    Welcome home, Icy Mike.

    Only been back for little over 4 months myself and I understand ya completely! 

    I've still never run any of the Incarnate stuff, which I'm guessing what is new to you. (Maybe I never will at this rate, lol)

    If you'd like some like-minded company for teaming up, please feel free to send me a global friend request.

    I'm on Excelsior for the most part but would be happy to make a character anywhere.

    Seriously, we do need an SG for all us old-schoolers!

    Hmm, I haven't really settled on very many yet. Most days I open with my Powerwolf playlist starting with my global namesake:

    I kinda always wished the costume pieces like Rocket Boots (fly) and Piston Boots (super jump) were functional and not just cosmetic. 

    I like the idea of being able to add your own personal Lucius Fox to your SG (or a city shop) for gadgetry and vehicles.

    I didn't read any malicious intent in the OP. Because of the way I personally learn things, I agreed; try it out first.

    When I first came to CoH during live, I had the luxury of being invited by a IRL friend. 

    I asked them 1 question when I logged on to create my first character: "What is the easiest to solo?"

    Now this kinda threw them for a loop because they wanted to show me the ropes.

    I wanted to figure things out and get comfy enough with the basics before I would even play with a real world friend.

    As time went on, I started to ask questions more. Eventually we headed into Mids territory. 

    It was a pleasant experience, having someone take the time to go through things with me to increase my understanding of the how and why.

    Does *everyone* learn that way? No. But some do. 

    I never played an MMO before CoH. I didn't want to because every game I was interested in, I'd go to the forums first.

    99.9% of what I read only reinforced what was keeping me away from playing anything online with other people: outright hostility and nastiness

    instead of any civil discourse. (Who tf wants to deal with that during leisure time?)

    I don't doubt that there are vastly more lurkers than there will ever be folks actually posting.

     

     

    Anyone else notice a slowly increasing number of people joining groups just to solo?

    On the contrary, I *do* consider many things when joining a team. I observe, then act accordingly to, how the team is operating.

    I don't, however,  feel the need to impress or be impressed by anyone .

    No arguments from me on that, Aurora.

    I've never asked for any help with a build, mostly because I can rig up something that works well enough for me to accomplish what I want to do. 

    I've never cared about FoTM and never been good at min/max but whatevs. I still have fun. And I still complete everything that I care to complete even if I have to solo it.

    Trial and error can be a very good teacher!

    But since I mostly solo, I don't really care. Energy Torrent, Wall of Force, Explosive Blast, etc are just plain fun to use in rotation. Who needs defense when everything's being knocked over all the time?
