  1. Haven't been watching this topic as my main computer has been down for updates. I welcome the challenge for the top spot. Once we start getting GPU WU again on a regular basis, you will still have a way to catch up though. Also, I need to buy a new radiator. My old one no longer fits with the new motherboard. On the topic of water cooling, for CPU's I agree that water cooling isn't all that attractive. For GPUs though it is a different story. Especially given how NVIDIA locks their cards to such a low power increase. Also, the point difference CPU vs GPU is also partly due to the bonus that Stanford provides given how far ahead of the deadline. It's easy to beat those deadlines with some good hardware.
  2. This might sound bad and greedy coming from me since it is projected I will be the number 1 contributor this month, but oh well. I think that eliminating rewards for those in the top ten is not a good idea. There are other folding teams that give out rewards as well and if the in game rewards are eliminated, people might switch teams. I know that I would. With that being said, if you want to redistribute points from repeat top 10 winners, I think it would make more sense to only provide 500 merits to the top three winners and distribute the rest to others after winning 1 or 2 months in a row. I agree that having the 20 random winners not repeat. To keep the incentive, I would think a scale making it more likely for people to get the random rewards if they haven't gotten it and less likely if they have gotten it or gotten it recently.
  3. Yep, that temp is the reason for it. Check temps with the external fan on it. It could still be the pump. Pump failures are never fun. Thankfully computers no longer fry themselves like in the old days.
  4. I am not sure for an older card like a 7870, but current Nvidia cards will get a 20%-30% boost in Linux vs Windows (assuming no downtime). I ran them in Linux previously, and got close to double what they are now. When folding, you really want one thread/core per graphics card and to be on at least PCIE x4. Not counting my 2080 TI, my folding performance on the other cards is somewhere around 25%-35% of what it could be.
  5. I agree with Snarf. Heat is the most likely suspect. The other likely possibility is if the computer is overclocked at all, it can crash while folding if it isn't a stable overclock. Folding is really hard on computer equipment and can highlight any weaknesses of a system. Let us know what your temperature readings are. We can provide more help from there.
  6. I am folding on three computers. Only Graphics cards. However, between those three computers there are a 2080 TI, a 1080, 7 1070 TIs, 2 1070s and one 1060. All but the 2080 TI are setup in rigs to mine so they do not fold well. At all. They are horribly gimped. I need to install linux on the two mining rigs If i really want them to fold well. I am thinking of upgrading one of the rigs to allow it to mine better. a celeron feeds 6 cards to mine cyrpto just fine. Folding, that is a different story.
  7. Hey all. Been a while since I logged in. Just saw two days ago that there is a folding team set up for the CoH community. Just started folding for the team yesterday. I have been folding in some way for 20 years not. (Geez, makes me feel old.) I am gonna miss out on the top 10 this month by just a few hours. Oh well. Edit: Folding under the name HC_Psyblade.
