  1. Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding. No, I'm not; I was never much of a vocal/visible player back on Live.
  2. Hmm, most of my characters got remade on HC and might be familiar faces to Theme Team. "Animus Raptus" "Umbrifer" "Ussiomnia" "Legatus Lanius" and "Atrae Noctrae" (or maybe "Noctrae Atrae"?) were all likely suspects for characters on those servers. I had several other alts. but they never got leveled very far so I'm not sure how much I played them.
  3. That's a neat one. But, I'd really love to be able to bring either my newly minted incarnate (Demon/Pain MM) or my DB/Nin. Stalker who needs the badge. Not sure either would fit though.
  4. I hope to bring Atomi - Grav./Rad. Controller. But, could I please get some guidance on this one? Is it an evening dress/black-tie thing? Or is it something else? As others said before, I really appreciate that you're organizing these. To me, what matters is that we're having fun - not that we're "experts." And, it's fun to be able to do it casually without any of the baggage of having to be bleeding-edge or speedy. That said, feel free to post builds you're working on; I like tinkering with builds, and although I am by no means the best builder or min-max'er, I can always lend some help with yours. Sorry for the belated reply! Yup, I deleted mine a while back. Like you, I found it to have an annoying end. cost problem. And I wasn't exactly a fan of the needing to get into melee to make use of my armor set nor the sort of watered-down Dark Regen. But I was also on SOs only, so I can see how set bonuses would buoy the set. Also: That's funny: I ran mostly Redside with alts. on Triumph and Victory too. Maybe we teamed a few times on Live back then?
  5. I'll try bringing Amentia - War Mace/Shield Brute. Hmm, "Buttress" -> "Bat-tress" works I think? I'm a bit poor on puns/word play though. I wish you luck on the dark/dark sentinel: I bounced off the one I made for a theme team a while back so I'd be interested on your thoughts on how it works.
  6. It was really rough - very reminiscent of back on Live when this TF was first being run. Our team might have been a bit low on damage, and I didn't realize that Blue Patches spawned for pets an players alike. But, really, I think we ran into two major mistakes that made it very hard if not impossible to complete: 1. we didn't stop to re-gather and tackle the AV anew instead of trickling in one at a time to get melted; and 2. We spread out too much, rather than stick together as a team, so patches were everywhere and there was no place for us all to go.
  7. I'll try to bring C. Abyssus - Water/Sonic [Corr.].
  8. Not sure he's my best, but long ago, he was my first. I'll be bringing Animus - Necro/Traps MM.
  9. I'm a little over level 20 on him now, and I agree - the combo is really fun . I think it's the group-think that KB is bad that makes the combo seem like it might not work. But I find that the in-set tp let's you jump to about where any knocked mobs land. (Though that might be harder if I had/used nova?) At the same time, I'm not sure whether I'll stick with him past this weekend since it's more of an experimental build than anything else.
  10. I hope to be there this weekend with a (mostly) new blaster too - Brambleberry - Energy/Martial
  11. Haha, that's great Ban! I'm actually also going with a Lego-inspired character this week, but as that blue wizard fig in the old Knights set. (Alichino - Demon/Pain MM)
  12. I plan on bringing my demonic jester Alichino - Demons/Pain MM.
  13. Thanks! I was just temporarily renaming my character "Blarney Stone" but with the name taken I went for the more Celtic version. I'll revert it to the normal name afterward, so that name will be free for use.
  14. I hope to be there this week with Cloch na Blarnan - Stone/Fire Tank
  15. I hope to bring Veneficio - Crab Spider.
  16. I plan on bringing Eury (Peacebringer)
  17. Thanks for the fun photos Midnyte. I'll bring Kataigis (Elec./Storm Controller) Thanks! The name and costume were a creation just for this theme. I've reverted her back to her usual costume and name, so it's all up for grabs for whoever may want it.
  18. I'm not totally sure I'll be around tomorrow, but if I can, I'll bring Leaf Lizard (Plant/Psi Dominator)
  19. I'll try to bring Horrere (Sonic/Cold Corr.). Haha, thanks for the pictures and fun commentary. I really didn't notice the ambush switching back and bearing down on me until an unlucky hit dropped my stealth in the middle of two groups I was looking at.
  20. I'll try to bring Caedes (DB/Nin Stalker) next week. Banes are a little odd. I like mine a lot, but building him was something I did from 50 rather than leveling up.
  21. Fair point. It would be up to the court to make the determination, and it is not perfectly cut and dry. (Otherwise, how would lawyers get their fees?) With regards to that last paragraph, I should amend the first, but I stand by the second and the third: courts can certainly be grumpy when it comes to lawyers wasting their time on frivolous cases so a Rule 11 sanction is most definitely a looming threat to consider, and a lawyer absolutely can get disbarred for repeatedly receiving Rule 11 sanctions (admittedly, one alone would not be enough).
  22. Respectfully, you misunderstand me. I'm not saying "fair use" applies in your examples but not to Homecoming. In fact, I do not wish to comment on Homecoming and the legalities involved. Instead, I was commenting on how "fair use" works in your examples and, perhaps, share my knowledge of it. "Fair Use" is a codified carve-out for using copyrighted material without having to get a copyright holders permission. Whether something is "fair use" depends on the following four factors: 1) the purpose and character of use, specifically whether for commercial use or for personal, educational, or nonprofit use; 2) the nature of the copyrighted use; 3) the amount or substantiality of the portion used in relation to the whole of the copyrighted work; and 4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. If something is "fair use," then a copyright holder does not have a case. So, you are a bit mistaken when you say: To the extent that it is clearly fair use, then the copyright holder cannot should not sue people and take them to court over it. Or, to be pedantically more accurate, a copyright holder could file a complaint, but [assuming it is a bogus complaint] the complaint would likely could be dismissed on summary judgment, and the lawyer who filed the complaint could be Rule 11 sanctioned for knowingly bringing a frivolous case before the court (which in turn could lead to that lawyer's disbarment [after enough infractions]).
  23. It is kinda crazy, even more so when you realize there are certain films that entered the public domain because they weren't registered when the U.S. copyright law changed in the 1960s/70s.
  24. Thanks for the great pictures, Midnyte. I'll try to bring Cattle Call (Sym./Thermal Controller) this week.
  25. At the risk of dog-piling a bit, I think you are mistaken on a couple of things here. I suspect that some of your examples would fall under the "fair use" carve out for copyrights. Cosplayers are dressing-up for personal rather than commercial* purposes; they are possibly dressing-up as non-copyrightable** characters, or at least, they are not using the heart of such characters' copyright; and their dressing-up may in fact be sufficiently transformative. Similarly, free fan art would also be personal rather than commercial, and an artist's personal rendition may very well be transformative. A "free skin" offered in a video game could have been licensed and paid-for by the game maker/publisher so you are running a bit into a different area there. So, I'm not sure your examples really demonstrate that "Disney/Marvel/DC/WB/HBO or any other IP holder" have better things to do than shut-down this game through a simple DMCA notice to Homecoming or, perhaps more likely, the server-hosting company for the game. * I do realize that some people make money off cosplaying, but I don't think you could know that just standing at the door of a con. ** Technically, not every fictional character is copyrightable so it may very well depend on who is being depicted
